  3. I was quite surprised early on when my N3 told me I'd had an average of 98 mph on a tracking dive shortly after I got the altimeter. I haven't seen one that low since then. My average back then was about 145 mph on a normal belly jump. What did you use to collect your GPS data? I've tried my cell phone but it doesn't work very well. It very frequently loses points (Often losing half the jump or more) or is off by several thousand feet for one altitude point. See jump 1 for an example, it lost a pretty good chunk of my canopy time there, right after I gained several hundred feet of altitude. Bad GPS is bad. Someone kindly provided me a flysight GPS trace, and it looks like that works much better. I'm going to buy one as soon as I'm done with the payments on the rest of my gear. You can view both of these files with the free version of google earth. My program doesn't have exit detection yet, though the canopy deployment works surprisingly well. I convert all the coordinates in the jump to ECEF, which are just X/Y/Z coordinates from the center of the earth in meters. My code just checks your location every second and flags the first point that's less than 10 meters from the last point as canopy deployment. The source to my program to convert android mytracks and flysight CSV files to KML documents like this is available under a BSD-style license (free as long as I'm attributed as the original developer of the components in the application that you use) on Github. 4. Oh yeah, the president of the first company I worked for got one of those. He loved to walk into the john and tell people he was taking a leak while he was talking to them. That guy was an asshole. I miss him. He died of lung cancer in the 90's. Not coincidentally, that was the last office I ever worked in where smoking was allowed. And having to have someone else do it! My uncle's a professional comedian. This one time when I was in my teens he visited us and we decided to photo some Barbie porn with my sister's Barbie dolls using Mom's camera. We neglected to mention that we had done so. She was rather pissed off with us when she got the pics back from Wolf Camera! She was wondering why the guys in the store had been looking at her funny! My uncle's comment was "Be thankful you never bought your daughter a Barbie Dream Horse!" I'm trying to teach myself how to set things on fire with my mind. Hey... is it hot in here?
  5. Ooh! And the Sony and Cher show! Remember the Sony and Cher show? They made such a nice couple. I was sad to hear Cher shitting on Sony's grave the other day. I'm trying to teach myself how to set things on fire with my mind. Hey... is it hot in here?
  6. I was talking to the 20-something contractor at work the other day and mentioned the AT&T breakup. He said "Wait, what?" He'd never heard of the AT&T breakup. That got me thinking. You know you're getting old when you remember... The AT&T Breakup New episodes of MASH Mork & Mindy The IBM Consent Agreement With the DOJ Watching the Original Star Wars in the Theater for the first time Watching the original ET in the Theater for the first time Watching the original Back to the Future in the Theater for the first time Wondering why we don't have hoverboards yet (BTTF said we would by now.) MTV actually playing music videos Anyone got some more? I just missed the moon landing, the Kennedy Assassination and the Nixon resignation. I'm sure some of you remember jumping round parachutes or jumping out of these planes when they were new, too! I'm trying to teach myself how to set things on fire with my mind. 7. They glossed over a lot of stuff in school. I was traveling once and caught a really old rerun of Letterman from just after G Gordon Liddy had got out of prison. He was telling some stories of some of the goings-on while he was working for Nixon, which was far more interesting and enlightening than anything I'd ever heard about the guy in school. I always hated history in school because it was so dry. Just memorize these dates with no context or idea why the personalities involved were clashing at the time. A few stories from the guy who knew the guy were eye-opening. For all that Nixon was pretty crazy toward the end of his presidency, he had a quirky sense of humor about it. One of the NPR guys was telling a story about how he was on the short list to be investigated by the FBI. After the Nixon administration got caught at it, they claimed they were considering offering him a job and that they did background checks on everyone they were planning to offer a job, as a matter of course. When he met Nixon some years later, after the whole affair had died down a bit, he introduced himself. Nixon said "Oh yeah, I remember you! Damn near offered you a job once!" 8. Lincolin (And Nixon) were also Republicans! Is that what we were fishing for? I can't remember if we're right-wing wingnuts or left-wing wingnuts up in here. Looking at recent titles, I'm guessing right-wing wingnuts. Otherwise they'd all be about hugging pandas and eating granola. Speaking of hugging pandas and eating granola, Nixon also founded the EPA. Admittedly at the time several US cities had reputations for having undrinkable water and unbreatheable air. I guess all those rivers catching on fire was pretty unpopular with everyone, too. I was pretty shocked when I finally made it to Romania and the air quality in even the little town where I was at was atrocious. By the end of a week there my lungs hurt. Then I got on the plane and they announced it was a smoking flight back to London. Ouch. That was back in the 90's. They may have improved since then. I was so tempted to stop by Istanbul while I was there. It used to be Constantinople, doncha know? I also hear you can get the world's best sandwich there. 9. Those guys are still around? I thought they'd all died of anal warts. Actually I thought the FBI declared them a terrorist organization in the '50s. I'm going to have to go add a "citation needed" to a wikipedia article now I'm trying to teach myself how to set things on fire with my mind. Hey... is it hot in here?

  13. I'm really tired of hearing about her and that little gangsta wannabe punk Justin Bieber! Great examples for our youth! Bleeeeccchhhhh!! Chuck Yeah! Not like the Beatles, The Rolling Stones or Pink Floyd! Those were wholesome, upstanding role models we could all get behind! I'm trying to teach myself how to set things on fire with my mind. 14. Ya know the kids aren't going to get that. Ooh you're right. Here, maybe this will help! I'm trying to teach myself how to set things on fire with my mind. Hey... is it hot in here?
  15. Hmm... I was thinking you'd need to pre-cook, but just to make sure it actually cooked through. But I'm not sure you'd end up with crispy. But either way that looks just dangerously tasty. This is fine, bacon remains floppy for some amount of time after being cooked. You'd just have to work with tongs or something to avoid being burned. Also you'd want to make your own dough and icing if you can. It'd be so much better that way. I'm trying to teach myself how to set things on fire with my mind. Hey... is it hot in here?

  21. Made me LOL but I prefer my STFU shirt. I've actually worn that one around the office a couple of times. If anyone calls me on it I tell them I went to "Sanford Technical And Financial University." So far no one's called Sanford to see if he's running a university. I'm trying to teach myself how to set things on fire with my mind. Hey... is it hot in here?
  22. It's an expensive hobby and most kids will never be exposed to a tunnel at all. Most of the ones who are will never be exposed to it for more than a couple of minutes for a birthday or something. I wonder how many natural freefliers are out there who will never know it. Here's another team in Colorado. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y761ATx8DwQ I'm trying to teach myself how to set things on fire with my mind. Hey... is it hot in here?
  23. OPEC colludes to keep their part of the supply at a set price. For a long time they were terrified to let oil go over $60 a barrel and adjusted their production to keep the price point there. They were more-or-less the only game in town, and their thinking was that gas over $1 a gallon would drive Americans to smaller, more efficient cars and to other sources of energy. With emerging markets in China and India, they couldn't keep the prices that low anymore even if they wanted to. In the USA, the problem is almost as much that refineries are keeping their stockpiles low, which is leading to increased volatility in the market. As prices have gone up, it's become profitable to develop US resources, even with the more stringent environmental regulations we have in this country. I think I remember hearing that we're producing as much as the larger OPEC countries now, but it's not having that much effect on the market. I believe we're also exporting some of that to other markets, which are willing to pay more for it. The upshot of all that is prices are never going to go much farther down than they already are. I'd expect them to go up, perhaps significantly, in the next decade or so. Look for hybrids, electric cars and alternative fuel vehicles to start becoming more popular as that happens. I can also foresee a time, quite possibly in my lifetime, when most Americans will not be able to afford to own and operate a motor vehicle. 24. Er, I don't actually have one. And I'm not gay. But it's still a good troll! I'm trying to teach myself how to set things on fire with my mind. Hey... is it hot in here?
  25. WTF??? - Dude, you CLEARLY don't even have a clue, to what you don't even know - let alone "don't even know, what you don't know"!! I had no problems maintaining control, I should have said. I have learned a couple other things in the last couple hundred jumps that I refrained from sharing initially. * You never actually want to talk about skydiving on dropzone.com. Next time I'm feeling happy about a skydive, I'll share it to a few friends on Google+. * Just because you have 4000 jumps doesn't mean you crap daisies and unicorns. If you want to jump to conclusions about someone you've never met on the internet, that's fine with me. I'll give your opinion all the respect I feel it deserves.
