Skydive St.Petersburg = Skyride
ChrisD replied to carbonezone's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Good points! It's almost pointless trying to keep track of "Individual" DZ'z at this point yo do a search on a computer, and if the word's: Parachute, skydive, tandem, etc,..are in the search box,..."Adventure sports" is going to come up in the strangest places...This totally sucks and I'll tell ya from speaking with a number of dz's it's a legal battel that the public is the eventual looser!!! But what do I know, "I only have one tandem jump." -
Anyone particularly skilled at dealing with insurance claims?
ChrisD replied to Nataly's topic in The Bonfire
I have heard soo many horror stories of late concerning the conduct of insurance adjusters and claims staff, each and every one has had the same sad tale, and that is that they felt their insurance company has screwed them!!! They count on your ignorance and the fact that your not going to go thru a hassel with a lawyer, esp when these lawyers are getting 100's per hour! Ya they are quite experienced, but if you want and can afford your own counsel then this is a great way to make shure your interests are truly being looked out for. Insurance companies and the "voodo" finances that so many laws now allow the insurance companies to practice, ...well they are looking out for themselves, there used to be a day when you could trust an insurance company, but those days are long gone!!! They arn't one of the most profatable industries because their doing anyone any favors, but the public stereotype is that the goverment will protect the individual, with insurance companies it's the other way around! It pains me to speak with so many people that belive that their insurance company will protect them, but the sad reality is so far from this,....the big problem are the multitudes of stereotypes and personal held beliefs that these companies exploit and their draconian control of the media,...sad sign of the times :( But what do I know, "I only have one tandem jump." -

Vigil discussion was missing jumpers Zhills 3-23-13
ChrisD replied to p.w.stockwell's topic in Gear and Rigging
We had an incident following some night jumping last year. The packers at a local dz saw that the cypress was on the following morning and thought nothing of it, on a rental rig. They handed it to the customer, the customer thought nothing of it. It shut off, the person opened visably low, the dz owner runs up as this individual is walking back and demands to know if the AAD is on or off and or did the customer check it??? Of course the customer is going nuts because "everyone saw it on!" What if the kid really needed it? The vigil has not changed how it operates, after 14 hours it shuts off, IF it is within 150 + - of its reference altitude, if it is not near its refrence altitude it stay's on, can you say what if a front has moved thru the area, and then the aircraft as it climbs, the unit now within 150' shuts off?? Do your EP's change as you change your offset altitude? This is a nightmare for the pilots, if you have an open design and then you have to desend? Can you say take off your racer please as I'm diving twords safe ground at 1500 ft per min down? And please turn off your AAd's, >>>> not going to happen! The whole offset issue is very poorly documented, and we don't need so many confused people making shit up about how these things work. I want to see explicit documentation esp regarding the offset ground reference shutoff altitudes in the stinkin manuals! It is not too much too ask! But what do I know, "I only have one tandem jump." -
The G3 tightens the back, (a spectra line) when you close the chin strap. Ya know considering how well this thing fits you might be able to just not use the chin strap clasp, just don't fasten it,... or stuff some fabric between the outside shell and the inner liner?? Just a thought, my G3 is a really snug fit, and more than once I haven't bother'd to use the chin strap, just tucked the longer end up inside.... C I really like the idea about the concern for snaging a line! My concern is that it's not a question that it's going to happen, its when! And it will be unfortunate... You might want to reconsider choping up a G3, I mean pushing the 2 rotating things can be a pain, esp if something is in the way? (side mount?) I don't have any experience with this , just saying, with my G3 I need the full force of both hands to push the rotating things forward??? And then there is the flip up clearance??? If your near Chuting Star in DeLand they have a whole shitload of setups on the wall and including all of the nice mouth switches and aiming parts! Biggist collection of helmets and headgear that I have ever seen! Including those hard to find little dicks to bit on! But what do I know, "I only have one tandem jump."

Vigil discussion was missing jumpers Zhills 3-23-13
ChrisD replied to p.w.stockwell's topic in Gear and Rigging
This is the gear forum, isn't it??? And this person makes this claim: "Apparently they have changed that function on the Vigil. The new Vigils ( from # 26172 ) WILL shut down after 14h even in flight, but don't bother reading the manual. It's not there. The info is on the flier they will put in the box with the new unit. When I asked why, not in the manual, they said that the change is not significant to change the whole manual. " Has the fucking "Function" changed or not? APARENTLY MANY OF YOU THAT ARE OUT THERE, ARE RALLY OUT THEIR AND CARE MORE ABOUT SPREADING MORE MISINFORMATION THAN HOW YOUR OWN FUCKING AAD WORKS, OR NOT,... http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=4469697#4469697 But what do I know, "I only have one tandem jump." -

This statement is partially incorrect. I'll explain why. Apparently they have changed that function on the Vigil. The new Vigils ( from # 26172 ) WILL shut down after 14h even in flight, but don't bother reading the manual. It's not there. The info is on the flier they will put in the box with the new unit. When I asked why, not in the manual, they said that the change is not significant to change the whole manual. So reading the manual is not always the answer. I'M USING CAPS LOCK BECAUSE THIS IS A BIG THREAD AND I WANT TO GET YOUR ATTENTION: You say you have a "Flier" that you found in the box? COULD YOU POST A COPY OF THAT HERE? I would really like to see that???? But what do I know, "I only have one tandem jump." -
Awsome job Doug!

These vids give me the creeps, I am so glad he was able to have a great ooutcome! But ditto your obseervation about the handle. And the time spent stowing the thing is time spent away from any of his buds that might be in his flight path... But again great job! But what do I know, "I only have one tandem jump."

I'm much more conceerned with the number of individuals that are contemplating "raising" their activation altitudes by using the offset feature.

It's not just farm cruelty, it's any vid from the food industry!!!!!! THEY Don't want you to see what you are eating!!!! This also extends to our pet foods as well!!!! Welcome to Americka! C But what do I know, "I only have one tandem jump."

Let me explain something to ya kid,

Yes Mitch, I forget where or when but this has really wrecked one persons day,... type 8 risers will solve all of your slider stowing issues, This issue is worth commenting upon considering 2 of the 2012 incidents are leaning towards helmet snags with risers during ep procedures! The solution is of course making damm shure your helmet releases before your neck does,... Something to consider if your thinking of putting anything which is about 1000 times stonger than your body in close proximity to same. Something to consider to all of you that have purchased "quick release's" for your helmet straps,... basically my point being that your helmet manufacturer has thrown you under the bus when their marketing ploy includes mentioning this as a benifite or sales point as compared with straps that release at a predetermined pressure, before injury values,... Notice that I still want a quick release as well,... I'm demanding that way,... Anyone ever seen your average K pot? Quick release and a small mechanisim in case a bomb goes off near your head,..."embrace the logic." No actually the release on your "Helmet, combat, Kevlar,..." is there for the same reason we don't wear rings, braclets, etc,... right???? C But what do I know, "I only have one tandem jump."

You nailed it. You cutaway at some altitude that puts you reaching 78 mph at 850' AGL. But because you lied to your CYPRES and told it that the DZ was 750' higher than where you took off from, the CYPRES now believes that you're only at 100' AGL. The manual tells us that below (approximately) 130' AGL, the CYPRES won't fire, since it wouldn't make a difference anyway. If, however, you use the activation altitude adjustment (rather than the DZ offset), the CYPRES still "knows" where the ground really is, and the 130' critical altitude is still at 130'. Ken I think "Normiss" in spot on when he says this subject may (should) get its own whole section considering the amount of talk, both here and at local safety day events, this subject has been getting. Additionally the implications for those of us, say for example start off at pendelton north and land at 400, (i.e. Aircraft emergencies, turn back, etc,...) this is huge considering many rigs require the rig be removed in flight to shut it off... In fact the whole subject of all of the issues involving offsets needs to be fully understood by the user considering an aircraft emergency at 2000 agl from the starting port esp if your dialed in a 3000 foot offset??? As it stands: The new, (2013) cypres allows a user selectable activation altitude change, but the most recent purchaser has to wait in que???? for their service visit to enable this feature...(the static electricity excuse, it may not work anyways thing...) The vigil user is not able to change the activation altitude. All this talk of using offsets, and I find NO MENTION in either manual, cypres/vigil of the what cypres calls the: "AGL opening is no longer useful" feature is no doubt going to cause some user's to actually want to raise their activation altitude consideiring the recent press, by entering an offset! The AGL opening is no longer useful thing is very troublesome to me? The Cypres Expert says it shuts off at 130 feet, the vigil says it shuts off at 150 feet? Has anyone actually confirmed with the manuf that this is in fact how both of these devices operate? During offset opeeration? If so consideering the local hub bub about raising the whole activation altitude USPA thing,...both of these manufacturers have been and I mean in a creepy way, very silent considering the operating parameters and the information thay publish in their manuals. Similar to vigil takes the time in its aad manual to explain the depression bubble, but cypress does not???? Does this mean that for flat flyers the cypres is actually calibrated at a higher altitude in order to garantee its published activation altitude, I'd imagine they both operate in a similar fashion and if there is pressure sensors in both companies units they would be both susceptiable to the same air pressure samples??? Considering the manuf rehtoric you could look at it this way: (I'm going to spin this a little to make this point) if lets say your are back/ freeflyers in freefall and totally loose altitude awarness your cypress is going to operate correctly at 750 foot activation altitude. BUT if your belly flying and totally loose altitude awarness, and considering the (vigil) depression bubble of 260 feet your cypres (750 - 260 = ) your cypres is going to open at 490 feet. (is this too low) Does anyone know what vigils plans are considering the fact that the USPA/ BSR's question of raising opening altitudes are still on the table? Considering that by not openly stating that their unit (vigil) can not change its activation altitude they are in fact, (by being silent) implying something that their unit isn't capeable of doing??? And while I'm at it I'm very disapointed with the quality of the english manuals of both of these companies. Considering the United States keeps them in buisness they could at least keep their primary customers better served by better writing! Both manuals suffer from shitty language issues, and these issues translate into safety issues! (Right William M.?) For gripes sake it's as if I wrote their manuals,.... But what do I know, "I only have one tandem jump."
