  1. I thought you were a FL native? Some quick thoughts.... Wait an hour,... Bring a book,...An hours drive is short,... You actually waste more time watching commercials on TV,...And or see if anyone in the state of retired pilots (FL has more retired pilots and wannabee pilots in it than any other state.) is running a Private Pilot ground school. Or get on the phone, find people at the destination, and or bug the heck out of manifest. (Learning how to read those reports in an hour or less isn't going to happen. ) C Good luck!
  2. Not really. Like people said, it varies by DZ and often the instructor's discretion as well. Single-sided release jumps (similar to an AFF level 4) are far more common based on what I've seen for a heads-up student (or even licensed jumper) that became uncurrent after an abbreviated ground school. I've even seen people with fewer jumps than me just go on a random freefly jump with an AFF-I as their recurrency jump. While this might make some people's heads explode, it probably isn't uncommon in the real world. I love you guys ufk and matt!!! I really do,
  3. Your based in the UK? But for two weeks you can learn to jump and discover your dream? In another country, where yo indicate you don't fully communicate well???? I guess you could use sign language???? I'm sorry but when I checked your profile I couldn't find an email listed or home town or anything. And you want others to , at this point, to hold yor hand? And find places to jump for you but you don't like what your hearing? I suggest more commitment from your end. There are a large number of places in South America to jump, many have Spanish web sites. But I have to tell ya the way you have written your "introduction" is a little confusing and nebulous. Your schedule isn't any particular places problem. If yor sad then I suggest you do something about it. You make your choices. The UK and Europe have a multitude of places to learn.... C Good luck.
  4. ya know I understand where yo are coming from, what with all of the media and spin on everything that exists every day but this is wrong and really is a "what if" in disguise. I'm sorry that so many of you can't see this for what it really is. What you call a "safety margin" is murder. Cops have to wait, this poor victim, and yes he is a victim is going to pay the price. They knew this when they put on the badge. But in the new Americka I guess this is ok. Too bad it happens with ever increasing frequency and most goes unreported. But what do I know, "I only have one tandem jump."
  5. Lets get one thing clear, at a minimum he starts with a Cat A jump. I recommend taking the FJC again, considering he is from Kuwaite. Wont kill em and would be a better refresher than spending time with a coach that may or may not know where he is at. Sorry a year is too long. And quite frankly I'm not sorry... C
  6. Your scaren me dude. this is most excellent sarchasm.... Do we agree on something???? C But what do I know, "I only have one tandem jump."
  7. I can't remember all the places here on DZ.com but do a search on establishing value, there are lots of posts about this things like take a dollar off for every jump, or stuff like take a hundred off for every year. I can't remember at the moment. But many popular canopies hold their value very well. I suspect considering the age and condition they will draw very close to what they cost originally. You have listed some very popular size's. Why do you ask? C Find a local rigger and or use an escrow service. Chuting Star is doing that for a small fee, give them a call.....I'm not sure who else is but most all of the DZ's have a place where you can do this. But what do I know, "I only have one tandem jump."
  8. Don't laugh man, but it already has past the point where I wouldn't do something like that in D.C. Even if my ex wife's crabs attacked all at once and hurt like the thing was on fire. C But what do I know, "I only have one tandem jump."
  9. Excellent observation. And you bring up a very good point
  10. The report said "reaching into his pants..." or something similar. It's all about the what if in this day and age. They trumped up the charges to protect the police. It's all about the police. The Da trumped up the charges caus he / she gets to walk around and point to their record. It's all about your record of convictions, not about your duty and obligation to the truth. That's why lawyers have wrecked Americka. They know but they get to walk around saying I have to follow orders! It's all about the what if. Same thing about that woman in DC, what if, what if, what if.... Basically we live in a country and the what if,... is ok to kill you! The what if has become the justification. C Get used to it, cause it is and will continue to increase and get worse... But what do I know, "I only have one tandem jump."
  11. While your still here,.. Yo have walked over to the Chuting Star store????
  12. Look, you've already made your point to them, so think twice. Canopy deployment is still an excercise in controlled chaos, so maybe it was a packing issue, or maybe it was simply random. You're new there, and DeLand is a great DZ. At any DZ, think carefully about putting appropriate "balance" in how you put yourself across, especially when you're new there, especially when you're a student. In the meantime - learn how to pack. With the number of jumps he has they are not going to let him pack. Just sayin,...
  13. How many jumps do you have Nick? Many can better tailor an answer for your current ability, or at least make more meaningful suggestions for your anticipated abilities. I speaking about watching a vid of your current abilities. Or someone watching you in person. Also this is where a canopy class with video debriefing can be very helpful. Considering they can only (argue) keep you in sight during your pattern and then you get the immediate feedback and actually remember what you can and compare it to the video there is great learning in this as well. So the master has given you some great reading to study, (Gee, come to DZ.com and get HOMEWORK.

    Ironic Effects

Stress effects people in many different ways. Our sport, in general, attracts people who do at least moderately well under stress. At least those who stay in the sport. Hey do you guy's remember the last time we had a research thing here, about cortisol? And the poor researcher called some individuals with about 30 jumps: Experienced? that is an example of a fatal confound or at best a real Extraneous Variable. Cause I have more than a few jumps and more than a few years and this stress thing has me baffled. Don't get me wrong, there are days that I have very little patience with those types that are rock climbing one day and bungee jumpin the next, and then just moving on to the next adrenaline rush. I think this is why so many uninformed researchers and their students come here is because of that stereotype that these stress junkies have created! Jumping and stress, for them go hand in and in their eye these topics are inseparable. Personally I have in fact fallen asleep on more than a few long drawn out rides to altitude. I look forward to jumpin for a day with my friends, yes,... I have a few friends. I frequently find the whole time relaxing and jumping is something I do to relieve stress.

Somebody ask the OP if they are getting any response?
  16. Hey Steve did you have an opportunity to actually visit the Chuting Star store? I'm not sure about the one in Marietta, but I am sure about the one in DeLand. They have a literal wall of helmets to contrast and compare! I would recommend to anyone take the time if you ever have the chance to see the most comprehensive collection on display I have ever seen. And this is the heart of the problem. Because their are so many internet jockeys that either can't make it to a place where they can see all of the designs side by side. Or don't have the interest or motivation and in their defense they can only make their decisions based upon the marketing stuff they find lurking the internet. Where quite frankly everything looks the same or a least very similar. STEVE, if you want the absolute best in impact protection then start looking at a motorcycle helmet with the Snell M2010/ ANSI / DOT impact rating. This of course will be at one end of the spectrum in available choices and most likely cost around 100 min. to 600.. Or you can assure your self that you made a good choice by comparing your selection with some of the competition. I have a Gath RV, sitting here that for the cost of the postage, I would gladly send your way so you can actually see for your self the differences, in case you haven't had the opportunity to do a side by side comparison. PM me for my address. All I would ask is that you then at some point in time return here with your first hand experience and share with us your opinions. I would never ask of you to jump the thing. I estimate postage to cost about 20 bucks. (Including the cost for the box.) C But what do I know, "I only have one tandem jump."

    Research

This study by a student interested in performance sports is legitimate. I put my foot in this mistakenly before fully checking things out. Can some skydivers step forward, and contribute some time. This is the first legitimate study I have seen that may in fact actually contribute something to skydiving! And it would also be nice if some could contribute if nothing more than helping me be less of an ass than I already am.... Study Here is the link to this kids research questionnaire: High Risk Sports C But what do I know, "I only have one tandem jump."

Nic vid on U-tube, might give some further insight to all of those out there that have heard the term "Pink Elephants." Seems to be a similar mechanism. Thanks to Ben Allen! Clickey: Ironic Effects. C But what do I know, "I only have one tandem jump."
  20. Thanks squiffy, I took the name Ben to be of a masculine gender.... my apologies C But what do I know, "I only have one tandem jump."
