  1. the vx swoops were from the last cpc competition of last year in august. the jvx swoops were at our 1st cpc competition this year in may. my turn did slightly change, however, last year i averaged 275' for my swoops on the VX 84 and now i'm averaging about 350' on my JVX. i'm also going a shit load faster and have more power. 3. just didn't want people thinking that you could start a braked approach from the same hieght that you start from full-flight, and get the same amount of power by the way you're an ass Slip Stream Air Sports Do not go softly, do not go quietly, never back down

  5. if you have the altitude to do that. if you don't, then you'll be either in the corner and/or have to do a faster turn, which means you won't have the power. Slip Stream Air Sports Do not go softly, do not go quietly, never back down

  7. I have posted a short video with 4 swoops on skydivingmovies.com showing the difference between a VX 84(orange) and a JVX 87 (white). movie title "JVX vs. VX" in the landing and swooping forum. the pilot is the same, wingloadings are the same, conditions are rougly the same, the gates on the JVX runs are set further back, and the camera angle on the JVX runs are further away from the gates. VX run 1: 300' JVX run 1: 356' VX run 2: 250' (roughly, i don't remember fully) JVX run2: 326' this is meant to be a side by side comparison as much as possible. questions welcome Slip Stream Air Sports Do not go softly, do not go quietly, never back down
  8. what are your thoughts? edit to add: i start in full-flight, but there is a lot of good information in the "technical questions" forum on canopypiloting.com. for example in one of the threads titled "how many seconds in your turn" (or someting to that effect) JayMo wrote this about braked turn approaches: check out some of the other things on there as well. 13. there is a fine line where you can get maximum performance out of a parachute. but the short answer to your question is yes, you can start too high and not have as much performance/power if you started a little lower. HOWEVER, most people start too low, haven't done performance drills, and don't even realize they can get more performance out of their parachutes even if they're not in the corner. practice will help, getting video will help more, getting coaching from someone who knows what they're talking about (flight-1, jim slaton, ect) is the best. that post was longer than anticipated. 14. hey nick, i know you have the regular HMA lines, but mel's lines are those HMA lines that are braided differently and have the blue look to them. i've heard that no matter what the slider is it will come down just a hair slower with those lines but wasn't sure if you guys had tried it with your RDS yet. or were you saying that mike has 200 jumps on your RDS with those types of lines? 15. mine opens good with an RDS, but it's not made by these guys. nick, have you guys tested this system with mel's HMA lines? with these types of lines there might be a problem with the canopy opening too slowly and spinning up resulting in a mal. at least that's what happened to my friend. 16. it also depends on how you guys are measuring the time. is it from the time you start your turn till the time you're on heading? is from when you start till you enter the gates? that all makes a difference too. are you using just harness? i'm also at sea level and last year when i was flying my VX at 2.4 i was starting around 675' doing about a 5 second turn. that is, from the time i started until the time i got on heading, then i had about a 2.5-3.5 second roll-out until i entered the gates. i'm not saying that was the correct way to do it but i did post some pretty decent scores in the past with that type of turn. 18. that was a PLF, can't you see me going feet, shins, but, across the back, then back to my shins, then to back again, then to WTF just happened? Slip Stream Air Sports Do not go softly, do not go quietly, never back down

  20. grant, ian and i did the team speed together last PST event and we were both loaded about the same (i might have been heavier) and we flew pretty well together. i was leading most of the time and the only thing ian said was that he had a hard time keeping up with me if i got aerodynamic. when we went into full flight together i might have been out driving him just a little bit too. ian is what i said pretty much correct? you had a better view of it than i did. 23. here are some pics of some dumbass drilling himself into the ground at our last CPC event. however, the last picture is of a a pretty good swoop so i posted that too. more pictures will be posted on the website when i get them. thanks to Sonya Kadrevis for taking all these pics, she did a great job and it's much appreciated. 24. i would really try and bump that altitude up a little bit bro. for your loading and canopy choice you probably should be around the 700' area. i don't have a lot of personal experience with velo's, but from watching and flying witht the guys on the PST they're usually starting higher than me. BUT most of them are doing their turns different then me too. no matter what though, try and bump up your turn height on what ever you're flying. PM me for questions, if you want. 25. it's all perception. best advice would be just demo everything you can and make your own judgements. i demo'd both a XF1 and a XF2, and i went with the XF1, just felt better to me. i would stay away from xbraced right now as you most likely have more to learn with 9 cell/non-xbraced canopies. build your fundementals first, then progressed.
