WTF? -- When did Dennis Miller decide he was going Republican?
Luna replied to quade's topic in The Bonfire
Well, all I know is that: 1. I am a Republican, although I don't agree with all party stances 2. I have always loved Dennis Miller, and I tend not to like comedians who totally slam on Republicans, although he can be at least somewhat "equal opportunity" from what I've seen over the years 3. I recently saw Dennis live in Las Vegas, and whatever you may think about his old stuff, he was VERY Republican in that act. Had me ROTFL the whole show! I'd think many democrats would have walked out of that show as it was quite biased. I'm walking a marathon to raise money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Click Here for more information! -
Well...my last name is Moon, and Luna is Spanish for moon. No, I don't speak Spanish. I just couldn't come up with anything better. I'm walking a marathon to raise money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Click Here for more information!

Okay, here's a stranger question. My husband last weekend had a similar situation on a low h&p, but the pilot chute was wrapped on his left arm. He did manage to clear it, but assuming for a second he couldn't...the bridle is crossing his container, possibly right in the way of the reserve (pin was not popped). Either emergency procedure could have caused a problem. Deploy reserve only, bridle is in the way of deployment. Cutaway first...well, main bag is still in container, and bridle is still attached to arm, so unless the reserve PC was able to pop the main pin and the main bag was able to clear before the reserve deployed (pretty unlikely I'd say), he still would have had a very problematic reserve deployment. He is equipped with a cypres, though, so at some point, if he was not able to clear the malfunction and had not initiated emergency procedures, he still would have been dealing with this situation. Any thoughts on this? In retrospect, it's a pretty scary situation. Obviously, having it wrapped on your arm makes it a lot easier to clear...but what if? I learned to trust your instincts. My husband was on a hop & pop load, 2nd of the day, and felt that he should scratch himself. Instead, he went anyway and ended up with his pilot chute wrapped around his left arm. Luckily, pin was not popped and he was able to correct the problem and got line stretch within 800 feet, but it was scary! He should have listened to that voice and scratched on that one. NO! They didn't offer me a free upgrade or anything, and it was NOT waiting for me when I just got home from the DZ! This is so not fair! I'm walking a marathon to raise money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Click Here for more information!

Man, you SUCK! I pre-ordered mine from Barnes&Noble.com many many months ago...before they started running the same-day delivery for the price of normal delivery promotion. DAMN IT ALL!! It says it shipped on Thursday, but there is NO tracking information at all available. I'm so PISSED! But, it's a beautiful weekend, so I'm not going to sit at home hoping it arrives. It'll be here soon, and I can read it during the week. Enjoy it! I'm walking a marathon to raise money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Click Here for more information!

Try using Mozilla. It's very similar to Netscape, but one great feature is that I have not gotten a single pop-up since I started using it. That alone is worth it to me. And when I do run into a site that isn't working right every now and then...I just load up IE to view it. I'm walking a marathon to raise money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Do you know if he ever got one from West Point? If he didn't that would really be cool, because I know he loved it here. I can send it next week along with his video (I'm hoping I find it this weekend!). It'll get there early, but what the heck! Let me know, though, because if he did get one from here I won't send one. Thank you Steve, you're so sweet. I always think to myself that I don't get much notice around here, since I don't really post very much. Thanks for the kind words, and making me realize that people do notice me!

My belief is that you get what you focus on, and so when you focus on what is going wrong in your life or what is bad, the hurt and the pain, you will get more of it. But, if you focus on what is going great, what is possible, what you really want, you will get more of that. With that in mind, I know that there are several people who have been having a very hard time, and frankly, everyone can benefit from this little exercise. Please answer the following question: What is going great in your life right now? What are you blessed with? What are you grateful for? Be specific, and if you don't think there is anything, THERE IS! Find it! At least ONE thing! I'll start: I am very grateful for some of the wonderful people that I have met here (hopefully you know who you are!). I just re-financed my mortgage, which is going to save an amazing amount of money per month, which should enable me soon to quit my job and find a job that I will enjoy. I'm also thankful for an amazing husband, and that my dog recovered from his illness and is feeling back to his old self. Okay, who's next?

I'm sure he'll be fine, but I'm worried about my little dog. He started feeling sick Thursday night and hasn't been doing very well since. He got his appetite back, but today he wasn't able to keep anything down, not even water. That's when we decided to take him to the emergency vet. They can't find anything obviously wrong, but he's got a fever and elevated white and red blood cells, so they are keeping him at least overnight. We have to see how he does tomorrow. You just feel so helpless when they get sick like this, you know? I'm walking a marathon to raise money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Click Here for more information!

What do your parents think of your skydiving?
Luna replied to andy2's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Well, my mom is great about it, actually did a tandem and wants to do more. She says that if it's my time to go, it'll happen one way or another. My dad was another story. He was very against it at first, tried talking me into scuba instead (he has done a bit of that). It was so annoying that I stopped talking to him about it. Then I sent him some of my student videos along with something I wrote trying to describe why I love it. Since then, he's much more understanding and supportive. I wouldn't say he's crazy about the idea, but at least I can talk to him about it. He has said he never wants to actually watch me, though. His sister watched one of my cousins do her tandem and told him that it was the hardest thing she's ever done. I don't think that helped my cause. That's okay, though. We don't live close anyway, so it's no big deal. I'm walking a marathon to raise money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Click Here for more information! -
What they are saying is that you have to get the night jumps in order to get the D. And from what I've seen, it varies as to what they require for you to do a night jump. My DZ just says B-license qualified, meaning you have everything done for the license, you just haven't sent away for it. Some require the actual license. Worse comes to worse, pay for the B, do the night jumps, then skip the C and go straight to D. I'm walking a marathon to raise money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Well, the ISP requires you to do braked turns and braked landing patterns, as well as rear and front riser turns, "reverse canopy turns" which involve a 90 degree turn in one direction followed by a deep 180 in the opposite direction (object to find out what kind of input will induce line twists), as well as flaring to a dynamic and full stall (up high) and practice flares to find out how best to flare your canopy (up high). Maybe I'm off-base, but if you put much more canopy instruction into AFF, you won't need a canopy control class anymore. The only downside to the AFF canopy control objectives is that they are self-checked, meaning your instructor doesn't fly with you to observe, as they often do during a canopy control clinic. I think that a lot of DZ's are just not teaching what is in the ISP. I'm walking a marathon to raise money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Click Here for more information!
