Welcome to our world! Listen & talk to your instructors, ask them ANY questions you may have. Read your SIM...cover to cover...over & over. Have PATIENCE! Keep your EYES & EARS open at all times. Hang around the DZ even when the weather is bad or the winds are too high...WATCH people pack & LISTEN to the chatter...watch jumpers LANDING...you will learn a lot that way. WAIT to buy a rig...you won't be able to jump with it right now anyway. Remember the Patience part? SMILE, RELAX, ARCH & HAVE FUN! My husband & I went with used gear...I got lucky, my rig with less than 50 jumps & new Vigil was $2,000, hubby's rig with 150 jumps & new Cypress was $3,500. After you have a chance to play with your own gear for awhile & maybe jump other people's gear you will have a much better idea about canopy & container size, colors & brand etc. Eventually you will probably want to downsize, at least your main canopy, THEN you go & order custom gear! Just my .02 worth. _________________________________________ Old age ain't no place for sissies!

My husband made his first five jumps in the Army at age 20. We'd been married for almost 18 years & he had said many times that he wanted to jump again someday. I tried to ignore him and hoped he'd forget about it because it sounded scary. I have a horrible fear of heights & falling so I had NO intentions of EVER jumping! But I love him, he wanted to do it again and I was hoping to overcome my fears, so for our 18th Wedding Anniversary WE signed up for the static line course...I was 49, that was almost 3 years ago, and I haven't regretted a minute! I'm STILL afraid of heights & falling...but I LOVE to skydive and it's COOL to get to jump with your spouse! _________________________________________ Old age ain't no place for sissies! -
Wearing gloves and finding the pud

My husband & I started wearing batting gloves to keep our sweaty hands from slipping off the strut in Summer & as cold protection in the Winter...now we don't want to jump without them! Since I was having problems "seeing" when to flare with my bifocals AND had my goggles blown off a couple of times in freefall I finally ordered single vision goggles from Sportrx. They're GREAT! Very comfortable & now I have one less thing to worry about! _________________________________________ Old age ain't no place for sissies! -

My husband and I both have been jumping our Dolphins for 2 years and like them very much...they have all the important features at a good price. We've never had any trouble with either of the rigs and they still look great...they just don't have all the "bells & whistles" as some that cost more. _________________________________________ Old age ain't no place for sissies!

When first on student status & doing the strut hang I had bruises on my inner wrists every time & I have small hands...the cure is to get off student status! The bruises from slipping legstraps were HORRIBLE! The cure for THAT was getting my own rig...with a butt bungee...no more slipping leg straps and NO MORE BRUISES!!!!! _________________________________________ Old age ain't no place for sissies!

I have a Vigil and can not figure out how anyone could "accidently" change the mode without realizing it. After you set the MODE it's set in that same mode until someone changes it, not an easy task...and when you read the display just BEFORE EVERY JUMP...it VERY CLEARLY says PRO, Tandem or Student. You would have to be BLIND not to notice this for 14 jumps! The Vigil will stay on for about 14 hours after it's set then it automatically shuts itself off and so needs to be turned back on the next day you jump, but it STAYS in the SAME MODE every time. Just my "2 cents" worth. I LOVE MY VIGIL! _________________________________________ Old age ain't no place for sissies!

Corporal punishment is alive and well in the Washington State school system. Blues, Dave Well, I have 2 children, 2 grandchildren & 4 step-children and NO I do not advocate abusing &/or beating children, however, a few well placed whacks on the butt only, seemed to get the needed attention from the child and THEN you could explain what they did wrong & why, blah, blah, blah Of course the kids 30 years ago usually weren't drinking soda, eating donuts & candy for breakfast either AND plugged into some kind of electronic device...it was easier to get their attention! _________________________________________ Old age ain't no place for sissies!

AND SAD... I VIVIDLY remember one of my teachers, a nun, spanking a misbehaving student (not me) with a paddle in front of the class...student was very embarrassed & the rest of us were afraid one of us might be next! END of problem for the rest of the year. Not now of course, now you don't DARE touch the little darlings or someone will be suing for LOTS of money & another attorney will have a brand new boat paid for! _________________________________________ Old age ain't no place for sissies!
