Damn, I got more posts than jumps! Have to get up there again to set the numbers straight. Lucky me there is at least one boogie left before the season is over here. One week of pure jumping 16th-22nd of september. Full fræs på Oppdalsboogien

The landing area can also be a dangerous place to be. I've seen a coupple of collisions and near misses. Watch out for people comming in, keep your helmet on and get out of there. If it's a tight area you can also risk having somebody landing on your canopy. Not funny to get it ripped after your safely down. Just my $0.02 about landing area do's and don'ts... We all have to keep these things fresh in mind anyway, so it's quite ok to get a reminder

Hi This has been discussed here on the forum many times before. If it's an emergency exit under 1500' it's probably wise to go right for the reserve since you might have ridiculus short time for an emergency procedure. In such a stressed situation you also are at higer risk of having to do a pull in an unstable position, and then it's better to go for the reserve because it has a freebag and not a regular d-bag which can complicate things. In case of a higher altitude bailout listen to and follow the jumpmasters instructions. There is an article about this in the safety section which discuss some different sceneries. -fudd There are only 10 types of people in the world. Those who understand binary, and those who don't.

I'm considering buying me a Hornet too. I've asked aroun a bit and everybody tells me to stay away from PISA stuff. I don't know anyone at my dz who jumps a Hornet. However, even though I get all these warnings about the Hornet, when I read reviews and postings here everybody loves it. It seems like PISA offers: -High quality canopy -Low price -Excelent service I wrote a mail to PISA, and got a reply the same day. I wrote a mail to PD, and still haven't heard anything. I want to go for a Hornet. So, everyone who is badmouthing the Hornet and other PISA equipment. Has anyone actually had some bad experice with this gear. Why is it I should stay clear of PISA gear? Give me a good reason why I should not buy a brand new Hornet over a used Saber with 500 jumps in need for a reline.

I think these kind of jumps sounds a little too dangerous. With this type of contact it's possible to kick out the bulls reserve handle, and you are sitting on top of the container. I don't know if it's just me being paranoid, but I'm not at all comfortable with someone over or under me in freefall. Planned or not. Pins sometimes come loose in the airplane, and even during tight exits. I see that tight loops, good flaps, new velcro etc. can make these jumps safer, but how safe is it really? This weekend I said no to doing a wheel exit (With me on my back on my rigg rolling out. holding the legs of the person diving over me holding my feet. This was from a tailgate exit). Even though my loop is tight, I just won't risk it. Am I paranoid, too safty oriented (is that possible?), or just a safe jumper??? There are only 10 types of people in the world. I believe it's a good chance of surviving landing the wingsuit in a downhill ski slope. A speed of 27km/h and maybe 130 km/h horisontal is about the speeds of professional downhill skiers. When a downhill skier falls, he usually survive. Often just bruised, often just some broken bones but somtimes it goes terrible wrong. Downhill ski slopes have a 70° descent angle (aprox, at the steepest parts). If you do a perfect approach/landing you could swoop the hill with your feet. I think landing the wingsuit is abaout as crazy as doing an intentional fall during downhill skiing. There are only 10 types of people in the world. Those who understand binary, and those who don't.

Scary, if that wire had snapped it could give the jumper a serious slap in the face, they probably know what they are doing, but it still looks pretty damn dangerous... There are only 10 types of people in the world. Those who understand binary, and those who don't.

Hi Here is an ide on howto build one yourself. Don't know how well it would work. The idea is to use a balloon (probably best with a big one) and se how fast the air flows out of it through the fabric by measuring the diameter of it. I think it would be a good idea to test the center cells topp and bottom fabric about 20" from the front. Try it on a brand new canopy and an old worn out one to get a reference. Any suggestion to improvements, how big the balloon should be, how much surface to test or howto build this? Does this seem like a good idea??? I did a little principle sketch. Sorry for the quality, but it's not easy on a laptop with a touchpad . -fudd There are only 10 types of people in the world. Those who understand binary, and those who don't.

I'd love to come and jump with you on Hawaii! If I win the lottery, I'll come... If I win the lottery grand price, I think I will go on a "round the world visiting DZ's" tour. That would be a cool year (52 dropzone in 52 weeks...!)

Here is some of the advices I've recieved when diving down to a formation. - Dive down but try to stop 5 meters above, and 5 meters before (horizontal) the formation. This will prevent you from going low. Besides it's common to not being able to brake fast enough. This gives you a safty buffer. When you have stopped the dive, slide slowly into your slot. -If you go low don't head directly at the formation. If you do that and look directly at it, it's difficult to de-arch properly. Turn 90 degrees at the formation and dearch until you're over again and slid into your slot. As for body position I found that arching and steering by putting my arms back like tracking is a great way to manuever into my slot. I've had some fs instruction from some really good instructors. On one jump with instruction, I've learned more than I would have by doing 50 without. Paying for instruction could be well spent money. (However, I'm lucky enough to get some free instruction jumps, sometimes with video from my dropzone. They hire in instructors that jumps for free with whoever wants to. My home DZ rocks that way

Thanks for the info, I had not heard that it could cause damage. I were recomended to do this from a packer to slow down openings. I'll take a close look at my centercell and see if there is any damage. As for my current canopy, some damage isn't really a big issue for me. I'm not gonna jump it more than at most 30 jumps before I'll burn it. It's worn out so I can't sell it anyway. (unless I want to rip someone off). If I were to jump a lot more with it, I would have replaced the slider. However, the techniq works really well, but it's not worth damaging a perfectly good canopy. Of course, if it can cause enough damage so I have to go for my reserve it's a whole new deal. Do anyone else has any experience with this techniq There are only 10 types of people in the world. I totally agree. Practise one system and stick with it. Most important of all. In case of emergency, do SOMETHING. It's to sad to read about people who goes in with the reserve handle still in place. I heard of people changing their emergency routine after 500 jumps from two hands on each handle cut and pull, to right hand cutaway left hand pull silver. When they have to cut away, they automaticly do the original routine that they've practised so many more times. There are only 10 types of people in the world. The rules came this summer, and I don't know them too well. People who allready got and have jumped smaller canopy have got dispensation so they can continue jumping their canopies. (would suck if someone tells you after 50 jumps on your gear that you have to upsize). There are some restrictions also concerning eliptic and high performance canopies. I think it's like no elipticals before 200 and no crossbraced hp's before 350 jumps. Don't remember exactly how it was. How the rules are concerning forigners comming to Norway, I don't know. But as allways before visiting a dz for the first time, call ahead and ask. There may be some strict rules, but the people enforcing them are not rigid. They will listen, and we do all speak and understand english as well. I would very much recomend visiting Norway. There are some spectacular places to jump, and some of the best dz's in the world (I'm totaly objective about this...cough...cough...). Norway also has the worlds most beutiful women, and I'm not kidding about that one (ask anyone who's been to Norway). There are only 10 types of people in the world.
