Insurance brokers warning to DZO's/Plane owners
DBCOOPER replied to PhreeZone's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I'm sorry I don't see a relationship between Air Inc and aviationinsurance.com. Could you help me out? Replying to: Re: Stall On Jump Run Emergency Procedure? by billvon If the plane is unrecoverable then exiting is a very very good idea. -

Over a tandem not a safe place to be

I got to tell you a pilot in a non GPS equiped 182 has no idea what the actual winds or his actual ground speed are. Replying to: Re: Stall On Jump Run Emergency Procedure? by billvon If the plane is unrecoverable then exiting is a very very good idea. -

How does one inform themselves of the actual upper level winds? From the 12 hour forecast? The only way I know of is a GPS or Aspen. Do a math calculation base on indicated airspeed and wind speed? With 85 jumps? How about suggesting something practical. It was him and a tandem in a 182... How about something like the runway is 2500 feet long or so, so give them half a runway lenght or something... Mfg 11-2004, back once for the 4 year in 11-2008. My rig is due for repack 22 Sep 12. Can it be repacked with the Cypres until next repack or will I have to send it back now? I've looked at some of the quick release plates and none of them seem to have the alignment pin like a tripod mount does.Wonder why? Replying to: Re: Stall On Jump Run Emergency Procedure? by billvon If the plane is unrecoverable then exiting is a very very good idea.

Picked up a CX100 used on fleabay, cheaper than I can buy a GoPro2 and am thinking about using like a GoPro ie no sight, no cameye just mounted on a protec for use once in a while. Trying to figure out a simple inexpensive way to mount it and just turn it on manually just prior to use. Any suggestions? The "45 degree rule" for exit separation DOES NOT WORK
DBCOOPER replied to kallend's topic in Safety and Training
The solution is to change the name to the 45 degree myth... Replying to: Re: Stall On Jump Run Emergency Procedure? by billvon If the plane is unrecoverable then exiting is a very very good idea. -
You mean like taking it from a place where you sit around all day waiting for the students and tandems to be jumped and then told there aren't four people left around waiting for the load so its going to cost you 36 bucks to go to 10k in a 182 to a place like Maytown where you can get on a load in less than an hour, to 10k for 18 bucks? Sorry Jen, it ain't going to happen. Replying to: Re: Stall On Jump Run Emergency Procedure? by billvon If the plane is unrecoverable then exiting is a very very good idea.

Ed Miller, USMC, Farewell Friend

I meet him at Lost Prairie a couple of years ago. Didn't know about his background only that he was a Marine. We talked for a bit and when he learned I was a Marine at one point in my life he gave me a Marine Corps sticker that I wear on my Z1 helmet. It means a lot more to me now that I know his background. Magnetic Riser Covers - interference with a/c compass calibration?
DBCOOPER replied to LavaLady's topic in Gear and Rigging
Yea, I remember doing compass turns during instrument training and yes it's a tool in the tool box but in this day and age if your relying on a compass as your only backup you shouldn't be in the clouds, and you sure don't need one to fly jumpers. Set the DG to runway heading and climb for 20 minutes and your problem jumps out. There is a big difference between IFR and IMC. And I don't know very many pilots flying IFR by compass these days... Replying to: Re: Stall On Jump Run Emergency Procedure? by billvon If the plane is unrecoverable then exiting is a very very good idea. -

Forget Down Sizing - I'm ready to UP SIZE!
DBCOOPER replied to SWhiplash's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
A Pulse 190 would fit in your container if it's holding a Sabre1 170 in it now. I recently upsize from a Pilot 140 to a Pulse 170 after my Moab boogie almost killing myself experience last year Light and variable winds @ 7500 density altitude. I have it. Chin cup padding lacks enough padding to keep the edge of the cup from digging in when tightened enough to eliminate shaking. The screw that holds the part that the cut away cable goes thru tends to loosen from the chin cup strap rotating from use. Had it come apart when I took it off after takeoff. Put it back together hand tight till I could tighten it properly. Over all it does what its designed to do. I would rather have it than nothing thats for sure. use it on the ParaSport equivelent to the protec with a contour and gopro mounted on it.
