  1. I think its good news that the US has decided to turn to the UN to help move the move to goverment forwards but I'm hearing on the news over here that the talks between Sadr and the US forces outside Najaff are quote 'broken down and at a dead end' which is a very worrying development. Also Falluja may be relativly quiet but its fighters have been able to move out in force to ambush the US forces elsewhere reportedly killing five US Marines. 'According to Marine intelligence, nearly 300 Iraqi mujahedeen fighters from the Fallujah and Ramadi areas, some 150 miles to the east, launched the offensive in an outpost near Husaybah. ' http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20040418/ap_on_re_mi_ea/iraq_13 But I hope you are right and things will change for the better. Unfortunatly the Sadr situation is on a knife edge and if the US troops enter Najaff to capture Sadr, I think it will turn very bad. 3. 'Once again, you demonstrate “not taking the whole issue into perspective.”' I'm sorry you take offence. But I have to disagree with you. I don't think that it was a success, so looking at the whole issue this is why I dissagree. The Taliban is still there and returning in strength. The security situation is terrible, outside of Kabul the Warlords and Taliban run the country, even in Kabul the situation is unsafe to say the least. The training facilities have been largely destroyed, I'll give you that. However Al Quieda has not been destroyed or incapacitated, and if anything has increased support and activity since the invasion. As far as destroying their base of operations, they've simply moved to a new base. Womens rights may have been given on paper but the reality is nothing has changed for the overwealming majority of the female population. Opium production that had been stamped on by the Taleban (No I don't support the Taliban in any way) has now increased and is the countries largest export with a value of $2B per annum. This years crop is up 20% on last years. Over a million displaced persons living and dying in refugee camps still. Its hard to see how this is a success story.. I do take offense to the “Afghanistan was a failure” quote, however. Once again, you demonstrate “not taking the whole issue into perspective.” No, we don’t have UBL. We have eliminated the “headquarters” of Al-Qaida, however, and that is extremely important. We’ve capture or killed most of their command structure. We’ve got them on the run and are denying them open mobility and operations in the region. We’re also fighting them over there and not here (i.e. took the fight to the enemy). We’ve also got Afghanistan on the way to becoming a functioning democratic society. I’d call those major successes!' 6. 'You say that as if the whole thing was a mistake and that we have to pursue damage control to make up for it. Over half of the American public disagrees with you and we think it was, in fact, necessary for many reasons other than WMD. Not to look at ALL the details/reasons is not to take the whole problem in perspective. The Democrats use “WMD” alone to drive their agenda into the minds of the uneducated masses. ' Sure theres the 'He's a nasty tyrant who kills his own people argument' But so is the President of Uzbekistan and the President of Kazakstan as well, and they're in the coalition. Then theres the 'He was in leauge with OBL' propagander which is simply untrue but yet belived to be a fact by the majority of the US. In fact being honest the best reasons to go to war with him was A) for the buissness that would be generated by the reconstruction. B) Because the 'war on terror' was going no where as far as US results went. C) The US economy was trundeling down a hill. D) Afghanistan was a failure. OBL still uncaptured, Muller Omar still out there, AL Quieda has stepped up attacks world wide and is still operational. It was a good diversion from that. E) He tried to kill my Pa! 9. Skyrad... Why don't you share your background with everyone.. Where you are from, ethnicity, war experience.. Maybe then come people will understand your stance on things. Rhino Most of what you're asking is a matter of DZ record, if it really interests you so much do a search. As for my stance on things, its pretty simple really. I was against going to war on the pretext of the removal of WMD's, with no exit stratagy post war. That as is now proving was a stupidly ill concived idea. I accept that now the troops are on the ground the mess that has been created needs to be resolved before anyone goes home. I feel that the American troops that were sent were ill prepared for the job they now find themselves in. Instead of working on a hearts and mind approach to nation building the US military has adopted a confrontational stance and is using disproportionate use of force without due regard for non combatants. I don't think that this will help keep Americans alive in long run and has done much to destroy residual goodwill among the Shia population of Iraq. Sadr has risen from a junior cleric to someone of status. He was counting on a disproportionate response and he got one. Still most educated Shia are not siding with him but that can all change quickly if the powers that be don't stop letting Sadr keep calling the shots. All it will take to screw up totaly is for the 2500 US troops to go into Najaf and try to arrest him. 10. Interesting. A coward and a idiot, thats pretty harsh. OK so I think the Import Export pic is pretty tacky but what he said is fair comment. How many Noncombantants have died? How many more Americans will die? I fully realise that now this mess has been made the coalition (or at least the US and the UK) have to stay and clear it up, to not to is simply not an option at this point. But Tinfoil is asking relevent questions. Pictures of flag drapped coffins may be unpleasent but its the simple human cost of this war. I think it does more of a diservice to fly the fallen out through Ramstien in the dead of the night like something to be hidden and ashamed of. If you're prepared to pay the price then why hide the currency? I wonder if Tinfoil isn't right, maybe the American public is more sensitive about paying that price than its willing to admit. Attacks like yours on Tinfoil reinforce that suspicion. When an author is too meticulous about his style, you may presume that his mind is frivolous and his content flimsy. Lucius Annaeus Seneca

  19. John, John John..................LOL You don't get I do you? Do you think that that is the limit of the survellance over here? Have you heard about MANDRAKE? or ECHELON? Mandrake is a neural network based product which provides an ability to recognise faces by comparing templates. The system can take into account variations of head orientation, lighting conditions, skin colour, spectacles, make-up and earrings, facial expressions, facial hair and ageing. In a secure access environment, for example, no special skills are needed to compare faces if a face recognition system fails, unlike all other specialist scanning systems. Facial recognition is also the only biometric technique which can be applied covertly. A 'gallery' if images can then be displayed of the ‘top ten’ by confidence factor. Mandrake has many applications for Law and Order, Access Control, CCTV Monitoring and other security systems Mandrake is up and running in Britan and has been for years they're using on our streets John. ECHELON listens and filters ALL our phone calls every single one John! And our Security Service checks ALL our E mails as well John! And still thats just the tip of the Iceberg! 22. 'The IRA kept the English Army busy for years.' True, we were stupid and didn't realise that to defeat the IRA it would have been perfectly acceptable to use Lynx attack hellicopters to blow the falls road to pieces and tanks and artillary to take out terrorist bases in residential areas. If we'd have done that then no doubt we would have had hundered's of dead terrorists too.
