MAN am I glad I didn't know that and managed to get the hell out of TEXAS in just 2 days last month.. hell I even took two handguns there with me in my checked baggage....amoung other things That is like a TOTAL deal breaker I'm pretty sure that law was overturned a couple of years ago. As it should have been a long time ago. Well, actually, it never should have existed, but I think that a lot of states have had similar laws in the past.

Yeah, that's better. I thought it was something about being in debt before. Man, these stories about people having to cut off their own body parts always give me the chills. Though I do like one of the quotes from this story: "He provides a lot of inspiration for myself, not just as a physician but as a human being."

I don't think anyone was making the question harder than it is. But you might be trying to make the question simpler than it is. There is a wide range of illegal immigrants over here - those who were brought as toddlers (or whatever age) who have lived here for years, to those who came over yesterday. And those who are violent criminals to those who are only "criminal" by being here illegally. So I would have to agree that there is no simple answer. As a country, it seems to me that we have sort of turned a blind eye to the situation, thereby encouraging it. And I think that there are many peaceful illegal immigrants here who truly just want to make better lives for their families, and a large number of American citizens have used that to their advantage. So I don't think simple "deportation" is the answer to the problem. Certainly deportation for those who are criminals beyond their immigration status, and punishment for companies who knowingly hire illegals. But I think that I would be in favor of some sort of amnesty for the non-criminal type, and for making it easier for employers to sponsor immigrants to become legal.

What, are you swooning over me being too fat to fit a dress I used to wear?

I know that when I only get 30-60 minutes of sleep (like last night) I feel like a zombie. Do you drink much alcohol or caffeine?

I think this is why the World Speed Sailing Record Council won't officially recognize records for anyone under 18. They don't want to encourage kids to attempt dangerous records. Anyhow, I hope she will be found safe.

I think they're cute, but then I have no fashion sense either. I don't have any though, because I dress pretty boring these days. But I had all kinds of crazy shoes and clothes when I was younger.

My guess is that people often don't vote seriously in these silly polls. OK. So, when people don't take it seriously, they will tell me I'm jumping a risky rig. When they take it seriously (the other polls) they will let me jump into a rancid vagina or walk in on my wife with another guy? I have no idea whether anyone was taking the other polls seriously either. Well, I know that I wasn't taking them too seriously. This is the Bonfire, after all.

Publisher posts warning labels on the Constitution.
Shotgun replied to scruffy's topic in Speakers Corner
A few things come to mind: "Representatives and direct Taxes shall be apportioned among the several States which may be included within this Union, according to their respective Numbers, which shall be determined by adding to the whole Number of free Persons, including those bound to Service for a Term of Years, and excluding Indians not taxed, three fifths of all other Persons." "The Migration or Importation of such Persons as any of the States now existing shall think proper to admit, shall not be prohibited by the Congress prior to the Year one thousand eight hundred and eight, but a Tax or duty may be imposed on such Importation, not exceeding ten dollars for each Person." "No Person held to Service or Labour in one State, under the Laws thereof, escaping into another, shall, in Consequence of any Law or Regulation therein, be discharged from such Service or Labour, but shall be delivered up on Claim of the Party to whom such Service or Labour may be due." And then the Amendments that deal with ending slavery, giving all men (regardless of color or race) and then women the right to vote, etc. I don't think it's saying anything bad about our Constitution, just pointing out that our values as a society have changed over time since it was written. It doesn't appear to be placed on there as a "warning label," seeing as it doesn't actually say "warning" (or anything to that effect) on it. It does seem somewhat odd (and unnecessary?) though. Edit: Actually, looking through the books that they publish, it looks like that same statement is at the beginning of most of their books (about many different subjects). Or at least in the books that they have published in the last few years. I'm curious to know what their reason is for feeling the need to say that. -
Those are not flip flops. And I like these better. And if you need a quick jog around. Yikes.

This was on the first page when I did an image search for "platform flip flops." (Not trying to get this moved to SC. I just thought it was funny.)

Obama doesn't show US flag at press conference?
Shotgun replied to StreetScooby's topic in Speakers Corner
Here is a photo taken from May 27, 2010, which I believe is the same day as the original photo posted. Same room in the White House, different event. The flag is not as prominent as some might like (I assume that will be the next argument - he should have 30 flags behind him if he really loves America!), but "Odumbo" does actually have a flag in the room. http://news.yahoo.com/nphotos/slideshow/photo//100527/480/urn_publicid_ap_org_dcf5bc52f8d84475b5141eec3260671c/#photoViewer=/100527/480/urn_publicid_ap_org965dcc7254524205b6793fae8a1a619c -
SOMEONE come up with a freakin answer already! I tried doing a search, but all I got was a recipe for Cool Whip Turtle Pumpkin Pie. Looks kinda tasty though.

That flag must have been Photoshopped in there! I heard that Obama ordered all of the U.S. flags to be sent down to the Gulf and stuffed in the hole. And it was in a chain mail from a very reputable anonymous source! -
I thought it might be a political thread too.

Depends on what type of mustard or ketchup, as well as Friend #2's political leanings and shoe size. And what is the best way to whip a turtle? Seeing as they have that protective shell and all.
-
Good turtle. I won't have to get the whip out now.

I think the point is that asking does not always mean you'll get the truth. But it's also not fair to assume that anyone with an STD is going to lie about it (and personally, if I felt that way about someone, I probably wouldn't be referring to them as a "friend" - I'd likely be referring to them as "this asshole that I know").
-
What if the "acquaintance/friend" (as written in the OP) is someone you see maybe once or twice a year, you don't know her last name, and you have no phone# for her? Do you ask Friend #2 for the person's phone# so that you can call her up and ask her this question about Friend #2's herpes? Oh, and add in there that Friend #2 is a close friend who has told you that he always informs women of the herpes before going to bed with them. Friends, in my book, are more important than an aquaintance. So you wouldn't tell the acquaintance about the friend's herpes? (Which is what the original question may have been asking, though the details are way too vague for a simple yes or no answer, which is why I think it depends on the actual situation.)

Yes, they should. And some people (who I know anyway) can be trusted to do the right thing without my interference. Others, not so much, in which case I would say something.
-
One of my closest friends has herpes. We have talked about her telling guys about this before having sex (in the past; she has now been married for a while). If she started to date one of my other friends, I would trust her to tell him about it. I might ask her if they've had the conversation, but I would feel totally out of line to just go to him and tell him, when I have no reason to think she would be dishonest about it. It certainly wouldn't look too good on her part that one of her best friends trusts her so little.
