  1. Oh, OK. Mine is from a Catholic hospital. I guess the government doesn't trust those damned Catholics.
  2. Interesting.... I've never been able to use my hospital birth certificate for anything. I've always had to show a state-issued copy.
  3. What do they currently do to prove their citizenship? After all, the AZ police are already allowed (but not required) to question anyone's legal status. If their driver's license isn't proof that they are in the country legally, then they may want to carry one of the other documents listed. But they would only need to show this if there was reasonable suspicion that they were in the country illegally. So if they actually have a driver's license, vehicle registration, etc. (nothing suspicious), then it shouldn't be a problem anyway. But again, if you think the cops are just going to harrass any Hispanic person that they come into contact with, then that is another issue that should be addressed on its own.
  4. My understanding is that you are not required to carry ID except in a situation where you would normally be required to, such as driving a vehicle. But if you are involved in some sort of altercation while, for instance, walking, you are not required to have an ID on you, but you may be required to retrieve an ID. Which is the way it already is. And the law says nothing about "looking Hispanic." In fact, the AZ bill specifically says that race should not be used as reasonable suspicion that someone is in the country illegally. Now some folks think that the cops are incapapble of following the law, and that they will make up excuses to harrass "brown people." And that may very well be so, in which case it is the problem that should be addressed. Claiming that the actual bill is racist is incorrect, because it is quite specifically not.
  5. As far as AZ is concerned, I think this might answer your question: http://www.arizonaguide.com/arizona-travel-info/identification-requirements
  6. I recall hearing about that, but I'm thinking it didn't go through. I could be wrong too, but it does still say on the DMV website that legal presence must be established to get a license or ID. I'm pretty sure I had to show my passport when I got my Cali DL, but that was about eight years ago.
  7. Arizona has specifically said that, for the purposes of this bill, a driver's license will be sufficient proof of legal presence as long as it is issued from a state (such as California) which requires proof of legal presence to obtain that license.
  8. California requires proof of legal presence in the U.S. to obtain a driver's license. So if an "illegal" has one, then it was probably obtained illegally.
  9. Did this pig happen to be wearing lipstick?
  10. I think that we've done more of a disservice for our children by teaching them that nudity is inherently wrong.
  11. To my knowledge, modern treatment for certain mental illnesses (addiction) still largely uses 12-step programs as part of the treatment. Which is basically saying, "We can't help you with science/medicine alone, so you need to look to a "higher power." And this works for a lot of people, but not for others. Some do find help through science/medicine alone, buy many do not. I think we're still very much in the infancy of being able to treat any type of mental illness. And while we've come a long way, it still seems highly experimental to me. It's not like going to the doctor 'cause you broke your leg. So if Ron wants to offer his version of help, he may very well find people he can help (and it sounds like he has) who otherwise would find no solution. And if it works for them, hey I'm not going to tell them that it can't work because I don't believe in their "imaginary friend" (as you put it).
  12. I think you just contradicted yourself. If I don't know who they are or what they're peddling, I might open the door to find that they're peddling a big fat hairy moon. Actually, I don't usually even know that they're religious folks until they've gone and left a pamphlet on my door. I just tend to ignore the doorbell unless I'm expecting someone; otherwise, it's almost always someone trying to sell me something. Oh, OK. I can definitely relate to that.
  13. My first tendency here is to agree with you. And if the book contained actual photographs of child porn, where a child was obviously harmed to take the photo, then absolutely it should be banned. But if it was only written word, then I'd have a hard time agreeing to ban that, even though I find it to be disturbing.
  14. We all have our list of bad things that we have to endure in this world, Christian or not. Out here, there are countless Christian churches, Christian radio stations and TV shows, etc. I think most people (like myself) just ignore them if we're not interested. I don't open the door for the church folks who come knocking, because I find that annoying, but that is the same for any other solicitor. In the U.S. at least, I'm fairly certain that Christians are not being persecuted (as a group) in any way. Yes, there are people who won't understand you and who will mock you, but I believe that is human nature and not special for Christianity. Almost any group of people will be mocked by others who are different and who don't understand them.
  15. That's nearby, but I hadn't heard of it. I think I'll add it to my calendar for next year.
  16. Geez, a nine-page thread about balls. Doesn't this belong in the Bonfire?
  17. Did they report this to anyone? Was there any physical evidence? Any investigation?
  18. I read that as "Dr Bonners" Well, he might make some interesting soap too. Probably a different type of message on the bottle though. (Dr. Bronner's is about God, among other things.)
  19. True. But having posted in SC for a while, I've seen very few threads that weren't full of people belittling or otherwise just being nasty toward each other. If I wanted to have a deep, serious conversation about something that was highly personal to me, I don't think I would bother to try it here. Especially if it was a topic that I would be hurt or offended by people disagreeing with me in a rude and unthoughtful manner.
  20. The site specifically says to post religious stuff here in SC and not in the Bonfire. But yeah, since this is a place for discussion, expect to have people disagree with you.
  21. Personally, I think it's best to saturate oneself with the writings/philosophies of many different sources. Though I do tend to gravitate toward the Buddhist ideas, in which discernment is perhaps the major point.
  22. ....Or they'll simply never use a gun.... Or they'll decide as an adult that they want to learn to use a gun, and they'll learn from someone properly. There are lots of people who do not have guns or don't want guns in their homes, and I see no reason why they should be required to teach their children how to use one.
  23. You've gotta be quick on the draw and make sure you shoot it dead with the first shot.
  24. I strongly disagree with her on certain social issues, and I hope that she doesn't end up having a negative effect on women's rights, gay rights, stem cell research, etc..... But those issues don't seem to be her main focus for now. The things that she is focusing on are things that I don't have a strong opinion about, so while I don't particularly like her personality, I am interested in hearing her point of view. But since she does seem to have a lot of political (celebrity?) power, I am concerned about her views on the social issues.
  25. She recently put out a "Mama Grizzlies" video about herself (and her female followers): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fsUVL6ciK-c
