  1. My favorite beer is root. No particular brand though.
  2. Not too sure about "all." I'm guessing that there are still people out there who think that interracial marriage should be illegal.
  3. I thought "chronic" usually referred to the good (expensive) stuff? Meant to say "which is definitely not cheap" Oh, sorry... Guess I should have figured that out from the rest of your post, but I thought you were saying that cigarettes are not cheap either (and they probably don't seem cheap to someone who chain smokes)... OK, nevermind.
  4. I think most people tend to think sweet=fruit and non-sweet=vegetable. Not saying that's "right," but that seems to be how it goes. I find biology in general to be odd, and perfect classifications perhaps impossible. Oh, and I just looked up the definition for squash: "1. Any of various tendril-bearing plants of the genus Cucurbita, having fleshy edible fruit with a leathery rind and unisexual flowers. 2. The fruit of any of these plants, eaten as a vegetable." Hmm.... so, if I eat steak "as a vegetable," does that make it count as a vegetable???
  5. I thought "chronic" usually referred to the good (expensive) stuff?
  6. Hmm... Well, some dude from the UK is posting about it on dropzone.com, so I guess that's a good reason for it to be news.
  7. People generally don't want to fuck with someone named "Shotgun". I'm just saying. Well, there's that.
  8. No, it was probably just you. My dealings with the INS/USCIS have been fairly pleasant. Certainly no worse than any of the other fed/state agencies I've dealt with. That being said, I don't think they make it easy for people to legally immigrate to this country. I would be for making the process a little bit easier.
  9. Ah, OK: Expensive drugs = sophisticated adult Cheap drugs = stuck in high school Now I get it. (But then weed can fall into either of those categories - the cheap stuff and the "good" stuff.)
  10. Thanks... I saw nanook's post about it too. Obviously I don't know a lot about horses. And now I know that your name has nothing to do with beer.
  11. Yeah, they should act like sophisticated adults and drink beer instead.
  12. And here I always thought your screen name had something to do with beer. So much for assumptions....
  13. Well, here is one example. I think this is probably true, but mostly because there seems to be more atheists/agnostics than Christians who post in here. Interesting that God speaks English.
  14. Sounds like some of the Christians who post on here too. Arrogance is not very becoming from either side.
  15. "Tradition" does not make something right.
  16. What if what??? What if there is a god who will send me to eternal hell for noticing how hot my neighbor's husband is? What if there are worms that will slowly eat my brain if I am buried in the ground? What if I will have to spend eternity in a giant marshmallow if I didn't cut my toenails right while I was alive? I don't know... I didn't "become" an atheist. I've never believed in any kind of god, except maybe when I was so young that I believed anything that adults told me. But as such a large part of our society, of course I've thought about it. My only confusion lies in how so many other people can believe a certain religion while thinking that all the others are wrong. But no. I absolutely, 100%, no question, do not believe in "God," and I have no concerns that I may find out I'm wrong after I die. (If that's what you're asking.) However, I still try to be a good person for selfish reasons. My life is better when I am nice to other people. I am more at peace when I do things to help other people. It's not about worrying what's going to happen after I die; it's about enjoying the life that I have, and I have found that treating other people like crap is not conducive to my own happiness.
  17. I am a 39-year-old who has never had to worry about coupons, but I'll sometimes use them anyway. (Though I always tip based on what the bill would have been without the coupon.) Just saved $30 with a "free birthday dinner" coupon at Benihana. Had a nice steak and lobster dinner and wasn't even humiliated that Rich didn't insist on paying the extra $30 rather than using a coupon.
  18. True, there are other reasons for lying about occupation beyond financial status and prestige. I guess I was just thinking that's probably the most common reason.
  19. I think that I find lying about diseases (STD's) to be somewhat worse than the others, since that might be putting my life in danger. (OK, well, lying about marital status might be putting my life in danger too.) Lying about feelings or intent is also on a pretty personal level and might be somewhat more hurtful than other lies. A person's occupation or hobby likely has nothing to do with whether I'd have sex with him. So if I found out someone had lied about that in order to get me into bed, 1) I'd wonder what the hell I did to make him think I was so shallow, and 2) I'd still think he's a lying asshole who isn't worth my time.
  20. This makes me wonder what kind of lies, as I would find some to be worse than others. Lies about feelings? Intentions? Occupation? Hobbies? Marital status? Diseases?

    Up in the Air

I saw the movie last night, after having read the book a while back. In this case, you really can't even compare the two, because they are basically completely different stories. (Well, more differences than similarities it seemed. Which is fine.) Hopefully this isn't a spoiler now, since the movie's been out for a while, but..... (Actually more of a spoiler for the book, so some may not want to read this.) In the beginning of the movie, a flight attendant asks him if he wants the "can, sir" (cancer), and they sort of emphasize this, but unless I completely missed something, this was never addressed again in the movie.(???) It was one of the main plot points in the book, so I was expecting them to go somewhere with it in the movie, but I don't think that they did (again, unless I missed something, which is always possible). Also, watching the "deleted scenes" on the DVD, there was an awesome scence which was almost straight out of the beginning of the book, where he is explaining who he is and the general gist of "Air World," and I could not figure out why they would have left that out of the movie. Anyhow, it's always hard to judge a movie on it's own, when you've read the book. Too hard to keep from comparing the two and having certain expectations from the movie.
  22. Yeah, I usually just fly Southwest because all of these fees are annoying - makes it difficult when shopping for the best price. But I sort of waited til the last minute to book this flight, so Southwest's prices were way too high. So even if I pay the $40 to check a bag, the flight will still be quite a bit less than Southwest. I'm just trying to decide if it's worth the fee since I can probably get by with only a carry-on. But I'll be upset if I get there and am forced to pay the fee to check my carry-on bag when I could have brought a bigger suitcase. Anyhow, from the responses so far, it doesn't sound like that would be the case. Thanks...
  23. Now that most airlines are charging for checked bags, I'm just curious if anyone has had more issues with the carry-on luggage? Since that time, I've only flown with checked bags, so I either paid the fee or flew on Southwest. But for this next flight (U.S. Airways), I'm thinking of only taking a carry-on, and it's pretty much the exact dimensions that are the maximum for a carry-on, and I'm wondering if they're going to give me a harder time about it than they used to (when they didn't stand to get $40-$50 from me by forcing me to check it). Anyhow, just wondering what others' experience has been....
  24. Right, their child could only have one parent's DNA, combined with the DNA of a donor or surrogate. I guess you meant homosexual couples can't reproduce.
