  1. So Jesus is responsible for Anderson Cooper being gay?
  2. I know a lot of people who say that they are spiritual but not religious, and I'm pretty sure that most of them are not atheists. I think most of them believe in some sort of god or "higher power," but they don't relate to or adhere to a religion. But that's just my experience . . .
  3. That's pretty much the normal description I hear of spirituality - the belief that the physical body and the spirit are separate. The spirit may reside in the body, but it lives on when the body dies. Or something like that. (Not my belief, but the basic idea I've heard from many others.) And no, I don't think my mind is separate from my brain. I think the "mind" is basically a function of the brain.
  4. Hey, I'm interested. Explain to me how Christianity only proliferates in countries that are not communist.
  5. I think this could be said about most of the religious texts. What I find interesting is that, for most people, the one they believe is the "Truth" is largely dependent on geography. It's really not all that interesting...scripture originated approximately 7,000 miles away and has pretty much saturated the west. I suspect it's success to the east has been thwarted somewhat due to communism. Yeah, those Hindus are such communists.

  7. I don't want to be forced to buy anything, even if it it actually does personally benefits me...and I suppose it does. I can only imagine the additional intrusion into my life given the "tax" aspects of the plan... Were can I go to just be left alone? Certainly not the land of the free... I'm guessing you either didn't read my link, or you don't like cats?
  8. Do the premiums go up enough to cover the cost of prenatal care, delivery, hospital time? (Assuming your insurance mostly covers this stuff; if not, you're not who I was referring to.) Or do they only go up to cover medical care for the new person you're adding to the policy?
  9. And then there is the lifestyle choice of having kids and using health insurance to cover most of the medical cost, while those of us who choose not to have kids are paying into the same system.

    electro swing

There's a series of albums called Verve Remixed that you might like. Though I guess it's more electro jazz than swing. The first one is the only one that I own, and I love it. But thanks for pointing me to the electro swing stuff. I like what I hear so far. (Even though I did click on this thread thinking it was going to be about some kinky sex toy. )
  11. I am glad to see that the Affordable Care Cat was upheld: http://affordablecarecat.com/
  12. OK, thanks. I also found where the assistant who wrote that issued a statement saying that it was a fact-checking mistake on her part. Obama wrote a book around that same time, where he talks about being born in Hawaii. Dreams was published in 1995. This was still up as of 2007. Ah, so Obama decided around 1995 that he was born in Hawaii, but he had his agency continue to state that he was born in Kenya? Makes a lot of sense. And I'm now totally convinced that we have our first Kenyan-born President. I didn't say that...makes a nice strawman to argue against though, I'm sure. You seemed to be implying that the little blurb proves he was born in Kenya. Sorry if I misunderstood.

  14. OK, thanks. I also found where the assistant who wrote that issued a statement saying that it was a fact-checking mistake on her part. Obama wrote a book around that same time, where he talks about being born in Hawaii. But a birth certificate from a Hawaiian hospital is probably more reliable than either of those sources.
  15. Author's blurb, then. Who is the author? And what is the original source?
  16. A skydiving instructor is not a very good example here. While he might be healthy, he has a higher-than-average potential for serious and costly injuries. And I'd say it's not particularly wise for him to be jumping without insurance. Pretty much everyone I know who doesn't have health insurance, doesn't have it because they can't afford it (or maybe doesn't want to spend the money on it - like a fun jumper who "can't afford" insurance yet somehow affords to skydive) - not because they think they're too healthy to need it.
  17. Since lifestyle choices are, by far, the biggest factor in most people's health, I don't think having more insured people will make much of a difference in their general health.
  18. Because we need them to star in the King Kong sequels? Or are those gorillas? Shit, I get the primates confused.
  19. Hey, I've been on this planet for 41 years, and I ain't never seen no fish grow any feet. What more proof do we need?
  20. But I'm sure it would be inappropriate for the shooting team to post pictures of themselves swimming. shows too much skin. Oh wait... Apparently even Olympic swimmers are not supposed to post pictures of themselves in swimsuits: http://msn.foxsports.com/olympics/swimming/story/olympic-champion-stephanie-rice-birthday-suit-twitter-photo-raises-eyebrows-062712 Warning: She might be more fun to look at than the goofy gun-posing dudes.

    Vagina!

One of the funny things that came up when I was looking for info on this story, is the fact that Rep. Lisa Brown authored a bill to ban a particular recreational drug. One that is now a felony to possess. So I just want to say... Finally, Rep. Brown, I'm flattered that you're so interested in my mouth, but "no" means "no." I mean, it's a pill that goes into my mouth, so the whole bill must be about regulating my mouth, right? Just like a bill to ban abortion after 20 weeks is all about regulating her vagina? (Interesting that someone can be so strongly against "regulating a woman's body" yet be so strongly for regulating what other adults can put into their own bodies.) OK, seriously. I think that she means well, and I appreciate that she is trying to stand up for women's rights (hey, she's doing a lot more than I am). I just don't agree with the way she's going about it in this particular instance.

    Vagina!

I've been reading a little more about the story you originally posted, and while I don't know if she should have been "hushed," she doesn't seem to have anything useful or intelligent to say on the subject of abortion. She seems to just be enjoying the attention she's getting from making a smart-ass comment with the word "vagina" in it. And then there is the woman who tried to introduce a bill to make vasectomies illegal unless the man's life is in danger.... WTF??? Thanks, ladies, for representing women in a way that makes us look unable to have a rational thought on an important issue.

    Vagina!

Well, you have no way of knowing that. Sure I do. I'll just ask the live ones. You ask the dead ones and we will compare notes. You think a baby will understand the question? Or maybe you mean once they're adults.... but then there are people who commit suicide or spend their lives miserable; they might not agree with you. There are good arguments against abortion, but what you think the baby wants is not one of them.
