  1. I believe it's still legal for people to spank their kids, which is no less painful than a mild electric shock. I didn't read much from the links, but I've heard of this place before. I thought that the shocks were used on children with behavioral problems rather than those with autism(???), and it sounds like they have to have the parents' permission to use such measures. I don't know enough about autism to comment on that aspect of their treatment program, but it seems that they have had success with some behavioral problems that didn't respond to other types of treatment.
  2. Wow, that's impressive. Remi usually can't spell even small words right.
  3. So the problem seems to be those who are advocating violence in the name of Islam, but not the religion itself.
  4. Just because some outspoken Islamic extremists advocate violence against non-Muslims, that does not mean that all Muslims share this view. In fact, I believe that most Muslims are against violence and terrorism. Here are some interesting websites about Muslims in America (where they seem to be doing ok living among other cultures)... http://www.muslimsforamerica.us/ http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=6064414 http://www.muslimsinamerica.org/
  5. Yeah, that's what I was expecting too.
  6. Ah yes, and now Christians are a homogeneous group of peaceful and tolerant people. We were listening to a Christian radio station the other night, and the speaker was saying that we don't need to convert everyone in the country in order to make this a Christian nation; we only need to convert those who are in power (or make sure that only Christians ever get into power). I suppose I could draw conclusions about Christianity from this broadcast, but I suspect that not all Christians agree with his views.
  7. Yeah, it's a low blow. It just doesn't stand out to me from all the other crap that's out there. Hey, if you're shelling out the bucks, I doubt he cares whether you even have a baby or not.
  8. A lot of advertising banks on the insecurities and weaknesses of the intended audience... The depressed person who is bombarded with ads for pharmaceuticals... The overweight person bombarded with ads for all sorts of weight-loss pills and fad diets (and plastic surgery), mixed with ads for junk food (Taco Bell's "fourthmeal" ads come to mind)... etc., etc. In a capitalist economy, it's all about raking in the $$. So if we choose to pay attention to the advertising, it's probably a good idea to have thick skin and remember that everyone is just trying to make money... And while some people truly do want to help others, they're likely not paying big bucks for the big advertising spots.
  9. I often use Yahoo Travel when flying (and I go to Austin a lot). The "+/- 1 to 3 days" option is useful for finding a cheap ticket, unless your dates are not flexible. They also have an option to compare surrounding airports, but I doubt that any of the others would be cheaper than just flying directly into Austin. (And the Austin airport is so cool that you wouldn't want to miss it anyway. Mmm, especially the Salt Lick BBQ.) I think Southwest is the only airline not included in their search, so I'll usually check directly on their website. But their ticket prices are really high unless you book at least 21 days in advance (in which case they're sometimes the cheapest).
  10. Ah, I looked that up, and it definitely looks like the thing that I had in my room: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Wind_scorpion.JPG. And funny that it's called a wind scorpion here, because I thought it was a scorpion when I first saw it, until I got up close.
  11. Do you know what kind of spider that is? It looks like one that I killed in my room when I first moved out to Cali. I didn't know what it was, and I've never seen another one, but it really creeped me out. The climate out here is similar to West Texas, so it might be the same kind of spider.
  12. Geezers, yes, but I don't think we ALL have Parkinsons. Yeah, but I bet there were a bunch of wrinkly balls on that dive. (Sorry, I had to say that... I heard a young woman talking about how she liked older men, and then she added, "But I don't want someone who's like 50 years old, with wrinkly balls and stuff.")
  13. That's what I say. And I still have found no reason to switch to google. Never tried facebook either, but I've enjoyed myspace because it's helped me to reconnect with lots of old friends.

    CATS!

Taking pictures of the cats yesterday...
  15. Why did you have a spinal tap?
  16. Yeah, I haven't tried it on my brain yet. Hmm, but that's not a bad idea . . . Might tighten some of those screws . . .
  17. Full-body electroshock therapy. Ok, I don't know if that would actually work, but at least it would be fun trying.
  18. What a silly towel-head. Hey, what do you call a Muslim flying in a rocket? A terrorist! HAHAHAHAHAHAAA!!! Of course, when Buzz Aldrin took Communion in the lunar module on the surface of the moon, that was different. Completely. I don't see anyone calling him a silly towel-head. Well, other than you.
  19. I think that most cultures get mocked on here, or at least ridiculed. I've seen a few threads with pictures of fat women in bikinis, usually accompanied by some joke about fat Americans. So I don't think that Muslims are being singled out for mockery; the mockery is open to everyone.
  20. Well, I get called asshole way more often than I get called bitch. And I call men bitches all the time too... especially those who are my little Bitch Slaves.
  21. Seems kinda Homersexual. LOL
  22. I'm guessing that it's painted on her.
  23. Wow, having sex with her would be like getting a BJ from Homer.
  24. Well, I like the look and feel of wet clothing... And the fact that hers is black and shiny and covers everything except for her eyes... that makes it look a bit bdsm-ish too.
