  1. Not sure what your point is here. During my FJC with Vertigo I PCA'ed Jimmy. Why did he let me PCA him? So that I knew how to PCA people when it was time to set me free. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  2. I just watched Brit's jump and you're not seeing things dude. Her hands were all the way up, she's in full flight after she's crossed the beach shore line about 20 feet above the ground when the center cell of her nose collapses and it causes the end cells to ever so briefly surge forward. Fortunately this collapse only lasts 1/2 a second or so and Brit's canopy then resumes normal flight and she lands. A second or so before this collapse, Brits can be seen making minor right toggle course corrections, but she's only moving her toggle an inch or so at a time and then she returns to full flight. So she must have hit some really compact yet intense rottors or something like that. Weird stuff I say. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  3. I remember seeing Brit's first jump of the day and that she did a two-way with you? But this was NOT the jump I was referring to. I'm going to have to start taking notes of the good, bad and ugly jumps. There is a lot of all of the above that's for sure. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  4. I'd have to watch it again (it's sometime around 12:00 pm if I'm not mistake) to see if it is a guy and a girl. But there is a two-way where some guy in a yellow top jumps initially doing a gainer. It looks like he over rotates and does two more gainers, but still over rotates and goes on his back, pulls and it looks like his canopy opens less than a second before he hits the water. The people editing the DVD made a point to show three different views of this jump in sequence with the last view from the ground being the most graphic showing how close the guy came to going in. Also the person he jumped with (a stable belly exit) seemed to suck it pretty low as well. I also seem to remember this jump happening not long on the DVD before Jeb does a really cool jump from the diving board. It's kind of a "this is not how to do aerials" and "this is how you do aerials" thing-a-ma-bob. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  5. I'm not a Perrine local, but I have been there enough in the last eight weeks to know that I've yet to see this guy with his clients (at least I haven't seen him on weekends when you'd think he'd be doing most of his jumps) and I tend to agree with DiabloPilot here. Unless this guy is seen doing unsafe things at the exit points and endangering the lives of his clients, then who are we to judge what he is doing? What makes person A who is hucking themselves off of the bridge have any more rights than person B? If his clients start asking us questions about BASE, then rest assured we will be telling them our opinions of what is right and what is wrong between what they do and what we do. But unless this guy is engaging in unsafe jumping practices, we shouldn't be trying to destroy his business. I still think BASE as a tourism activity is pretty fucked up. But it's not my bridge, it's not your bridge. Shit it's not even Tom's, Don's, Meghans (or any other locals) bridge. As long as the good people of Twin Falls and the state of Idaho tells us that it is still legal to jump from their bridge, we must all learn to co-exist and obey the rules which have been setup. Of course I don't want to mention anything about the rules against attaching things to the bridge (like a static line) as I hope someday I too can do some static line jumps as long as I have some ground crew who will remove the left over breakaway cord once I have jumped. 6. Hey even though I wasn't there I picked up a copy of this DVD and watched a good chunk of it last night (I'm at about 1:00 pm in the afternoon on the DVD with a couple more hours to go?). The format of the editing was not at all what I expected and after the first hour or so I was kind of left sitting there thinking ... wow this sure was a waste of money. But believe it or not, the format is now starting to grow on me. I mean after all the way the DVD is edited pretty much documents the event in an almost real time manner. It's not easy to keep track of everything and surely it isn't something to sit down for a long time and watch. But as I said the format is starting to grow on me. One day I might actually take notes so that I know where the good, the bad and the ugly jumps can be found with a quick search (Jeb's 2nd jump was sweet). Oh and to all those who are planning on making their first BASE jumps this year at the NRGB on Bridge Day, I would suggest either getting your hands on this DVD or Johnny Utah's Safety Day video. There is a lot of fucked up things with some of the jumps you'll see here that hopefully you'll learn a thing of two and maybe not repeat the mistakes which many have made before you. You will see: 1) Close to 1/2 of all the people who exit, exit unstable. 2) Close to 1/2 of all the people have poor canopy control (probably the same 1/2 who exited unstable). 3) The landing area isn't all that big. 4) Go for the water if you're unsure of your canopy control. 5) Bad shit can happen to experienced people, so it can happen to you too. Because I'm not finished with the DVD yet, the worst two jumps I've seen so far has been the line twist jump where the guy almost hits the rocks. I guess we need to learn to climb those line twists and never give up ... can you imagine if this guy made that jump in Moab? The other nasty jump is the aerials jump gone wrong (which one, there are so many of those) where the guy almost goes in. So who knows what other carnage still awaits me on this DVD. But as I said, initially I sat there thinking I had wasted my money. But now the format is starting to grow on me and I'm beginning to enjoy it. 7. I tell you ... just keep replicating yourself and sooner or later you'll love your neighborhood. Or will you? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  8. Weren't you the girl who not long ago duplicated yourself all over your lawn and showed us a picture of it? Why can't you just extend that replication into your entire neighborhood? Then you'd be surrounded by like-minded people. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  9. Yes Jeb has some serious talent. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  10. I've already saved it on my computer. To all those people who have criticize certain aerials in Jimmy's preview video, have you been watching any of the other videos out there? I seem to slowly be accumulating a bunch of BASE videos and there is plenty of poorly executed aerials all over the place. In fact I don't think I have a single BASE video where all of the aerials were clean. Even DW has videos with aerials that were not clean and he was considered by many to be one of the best if not the best aerials BASE jumper out there. So let's be careful why we feel the need to criticize people. Hey Jimmy, I love your "Standard Issue" video for both it's artistry and the awesome freeflying, swooping and BASE footage and I trust that Radix will be the same. I also trust that you know your mistakes at the Perrine. But we're all human, we make mistakes and learning from those mistakes is what counts in the long run. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  11. With all due respect have you met JT or any other other guilty people? Do you really know what sort of character he/they are? To my knowledge I haven't met JT (though his character has been described to me by someone on these boards who I know and respect who knows JT and JT's character was descibed as no different than someone who just needs to grow up a little and believe me I know plenty of people who also fall into that category). Nor have I met Jimmy H (someone I would like to meet one day). But I have met Miles at the bottom of the LZ and if I'm not mistaken he was one of the original people who was accused of jumping from the rail and I can tell you that Miles was very friendly and curtious to me. Heck I've even met Tom and I'd be willing to bet that he couldn't even pick me out of a line up without the help of others on this board. So unless you really know that JT has a "fuck all of you attitude", then you are only being a critic to judge someone who you don't know. In my mind JT did fuck up ... again ... and yes leaving Twin Falls seems like a self preservation attitude. But to tell you the truth can you blame the guy for not wanting to be T&F? I can only hope that he has learned some lessons from his antics and life is nothing but an opportunity to learn from our mistakes. Once again I feel that the time to flame people has come and gone and it is now time for everyone who jumps at the Perrine to remember what a great gift we have been given and to do our best to be good ambassadors to the sport while we are there. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  12. Good post Bryan ... Not long ago some experienced local skydivers did something here in CO which was wrong and it attracted a lot of negative attention both in the skydiving community as well as in the media. I made the mistake of stating the obvious here on DZ.COM that what they did was wrong and another jumper PM'ed me and had some very good points which are similar to what has been happening here. I was being overly critical of these jumpers and this jumper who PM'ed me basically told me that being a critic often serves no good outside of letting others know that I really had nothing constructive to say and people will remember me as nothing more than some who slams other people. Then this jumper went on to tell me that yes these people did fuck up, this jumper who PM'ed me had fucked up in the past and guess what? Sooner or later I would fuck up. And how could I argue with him? This jumper who PM'ed me was 100% correct (to date I have yet to do anything really stupid, but that's not to say that I won't do something stupid on my next jump). So yes the guilty people have fucked up, and many people on here have outed them, criticized them and even threatened them. Hopefully because the BASE community has been pretty vocal here self-policing ourselves, that many many people (not just the guilty people) will come to the understanding that certain actions at the Perrine will not be tolerated. But the time to point fingers has come and gone and it is time to move on and getting the local law enforcement people involved likely is going to hurt more that it's going to help. We need to be better ambassadors to the sport when we're at the bridge. We need to answer the whuffos questions when we are asked and we need to act in a curtious manner and watch our potty mouths. And personally I believe we need to stop pestering the whuffos. Running up to them asking them if they saw us jump, showing them our videos and telling them how cool we are because we jump isn't going to impress the whuffos (who think we are crazy to begin with). I know I am new to BASE, but I've always been under the impression that we jump for ourselves and not for others. So unless I'm mistaken here, let's all try to remember why we jump in the first place. I know I don't jump to impress my fellow jumpers and I surely don't jump to impress the whuffos. 13. Happy 40th Roy So when are we going to start setting some POPS freefly records? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  14. I think you've got you catches a little mixed up (though you're not totally off base here). You can not be in the country seeking new employment (when you don't currently have a job in the country), but there is nothing stopping you from visiting the country for your job interview. Often the interview can be conducted over the phone (at least the initial interviews are done this way) but sometimes they are done in person. Back in January of '89 I traveled on a Sunday evening from Montreal to NYC for a Monday job interview with Dean Whitter in the World Trade Center. The company paid for my flight, a hotel room, taxi cabs to and from La Guardia and I was back on a return flight Monday evening. If memory serves me correct, I was up against three other candidates (could have been more) and I didn't get the job (no biggie). But I got an all expenses paid 24 hour trip to the Big Apple and never once did US immigration give me hassles for what I was doing. I can be in the USA right now with my current job and looking for a replacement job. But if I was to loose my job, legally I would have to leave the country to conduct a new job search. And one would assume that the same rules apply to a job up in Canada (through NAFTA). But rules are made to be broken right? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  15. Canada is far from perfect. But it is a pretty darn good place to be as well. It all depends on what you're looking for in life. Living and working in Whistler would be nice. But expect a high cost of living (in Whistler), higher taxation, less bang for your buck and the skydiving is better in the USA. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  16. Yet another ignorant remark from the peanut gallery. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  17. No my comments weren't targeted towards you. I was just trying to stur the pot a little. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  18. How's this for getting back on track. Since when do Americans care about what other people in other countries think? Many Americans are clueless as to what's going in other parts of the world (not always their fault but yes the fault of the American media), many Americans are clueless when it comes to geography. So why would many Americans care if Canadians decide to allow one form of media while omitting another? How do you like them apples ... eh? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  19. Dang ... I've been unfortunate to have met Jimbo not once, but twice and wish I hadn't. Just pulling your leg though. There's nothing wrong with Jimbo. He's a good guy and lost a bunch of weight from the first time I met him. You know I don't think I've met a single DZ.COMer in the air (I can see it ... I'm in freefall and I introduce myself to someone ... nah it's not going to happen that way). Every DZ.COMer I have ever met has been on the ground. I have met my share of DZ.COMers by attending boogies, visiting other DZs and of course by having them visit the DZs I frequent. It's kind of cool when you meet someone and then later find out that they are so and so. And of course there are many more DZ.COMers I have yet to meet and would like to meet. The one DZ.COMer that hopefully everyone gets to meet is the Head Honcho (Sangiro). He's one cool cat. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  20. BASE jumping for tourists? What's next? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  21. You know I was sitting here thinking of the girls we could sick on the guilty people and I how could I have forgotten you ... Katie-Monster. Hope to see you out there soon Katie. I've been back several times since Memorial Day and for sure plan on being there for Labor Day. So let's sick Britney, Meghan and Katie on the guilty people. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  22. Or edit the footage to show the jumps, but just not from the rail. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  23. Actually I don't think you're idea would work. Just as Americans cherish their freedom, BASE jumpers cherish the fact that there is no governing body. I trust BASE jumpers are capable of policing themselves and you are seeing some evidence of this right now. So far the tar and feathers haven't been used in these recent incidents, but don't be surprised if they do get broken out if the guilty people continue to thumb their noses at the people telling them to stop. Already one of the guilty parties (who jumped from the rail) at the Perrine has publicly stated that they know they did wrong and that they won't do it again (and time will tell as to whether or not they are honest with these statements). But forming a governing agency to oversee BASE jumping just isn't going to happen. Let's be smart out there people. My future, your future and the future of those who have yet to huck themselves off this span in potato land depends on everyone living within the rules that the good people of Twin Falls Idaho have asked us to follow. If you want to break the rules, then do it from an already illegal site. Let's not jeopardize the gift that the good people of Twin Falls Idaho have given us. Oh and if common sense doesn't convince the guilty people to stop their antics, then we need to sick Britney and Meghan on them. You've got to believe that these two girls can do some damage on them. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  24. Freeflying rocks ... But one needs to learn how to walk before one can run. Learning to fly relative to others is not easy and learning to freefly is not easy as well. Put the two together right off of student status means that you could very well spend many many many jumps floundering before you get it. Coaching is good. A good coach jump is worth it's weight in gold. But learn the basics before you try the more difficult stuff. Oh did I mention that freeflying rocks ... Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  25. No there likely isn't a market. But a skydiving channel would be a whole lot more interesting than the golfing channel. I mean how much diversity exists in golfing? How many hours of programming can you watch about your swing? At least in skydiving we have diversity (RW, freeflying, swooping, CReW, skysurfing, freestyle, accuracy landings, tracking, tandems, BASE, etc, etc, etc not to mention the lingerie show) and could easily fill up 12 hours of different disciplines, training, gear and visiting different DZs. Plus I also like AggieDave's idea of a Reality versus Hollywood show. Hey if I'm not mistaken, the PST will be at the 2005 World Games. So could the Olympics be that far off for swooping? I'd be willing to bet that swooping would be a big hit with the general whuffo public in the Olympics. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
