Why do Canadian couples do it doggie style? So that they can both watch Hockey Night in Canada. Actually I've been going through Saturday night hockey hell now for the last 7+ years (and I only have myself to blame) as the US networks do not carry hockey on TV on Saturday nights. Do you have any idea how much that sucks? But as I said, I only have myself to blame as I'm the one who moved down here. At least the jumping is better down here. NOT a typo ... $11500 US for 2 seats going to 4 pre-season games and 42 regular season games, 22 rows from the ice just inside one of the blue lines. I got the seats before I was a jumper and I did have two groups of people buying at least 1/2 of my games and I sold probably another 1/4 of the games to miscellanous people. Actually Jagr very much still has the skills and talent to be one of the best player in the world. His problem is his attitude. He only shows up to play when he wants to play. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

I don't know ... I've forgotten already and it's only been 8 days since I last saw a game on TV. But as a former Colorado Avalanche season ticket holder, I can tell you from personal experience that the greedy players and greedy owners final outpriced me. I absolutely love the game and had some pretty choice seats (just ask Remster as I took him to a game last year), but the price per entertainment value just didn't make sense any more. So I gave up the seats and just in the nick of time I might add. My regular season seats tickets costs me $11500 US per year (I did have partners who bought games from me) and I know the club would be holding on to this money right now during their lockout and they would be giving me some bullshit about applying the money to next years tickets while they earn interest off of my money. Fuck the players ... fuck the owners ... I'm one unhappy hockey fan. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Instead of "I'm planning to - should the situation arise" your poll should have read "I'm hoping to - should the situation arise". But I'll cut you some slack as I'm not the best pollster as well. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Saw video of a guy jumping w/o rig!!

Come on fess up. You're just jealous that you've never jumped out of one airplane and while in free fall climbed into another one and saved yourself a pack job. I know I am ... jealous that is. Greg Gasson rocks!!! Talk to him for a couple of minutes (and count yourself lucky if he comes on one of your skydives) and you'd know what I mean. I hate that my injury is giving skydiving a bad name...

Knock on wood that I have yet to suffer a serious jumping injury, but I have been hurt more often playing hockey than I have been hurt from jumping. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -

Could a homeowner's gun have saved this woman's life?
CanuckInUSA replied to peacefuljeffrey's topic in Speakers Corner
LOL ... that's twice this week where I proclaim that ... Kelly wins ... How many gun owners have their gun on them 24/7 ready to defend themselves in the very instant that it may be needed? PS: Please keep me out of the inevitable gun versus gun control flaming that I know some people would love to throw at me. I just wanted to respond to Kelly's ever so rational response. CO jumpers, get yourself out to the Moab Boogie
CanuckInUSA replied to CanuckInUSA's topic in Events & Places to Jump
Here are some further thoughts concerning the (Mother Of All Boogies) out at Skydive Moab Friday October 1st through Sunday October 3rd. Too many of us local Colorado jumpers only ever jump at Mile Hi, Brush or Skydive the Rockies (R.I.P Front Range Skydivers) and very few people actually make the effort to get out to these other respective DZs (what's wrong with jumping at different DZs people. You'll only be a better skydiver with the more DZs you've jumped at). So it's easy to see why Mile-Hi people thumb their noses at Brush people, Brush people slam the Mile-Hi people and well SDTR people are probably just sitting back and laughing at the whole thing. But very few of us even know the SDTR people and they don't know us because we don't visit each other. So instead of sitting there wondering how can I slam this DZ or that DZ, the (Mother Of All Boogies) out at Skydive Moab is offering us all an opportunity to come together on neutral turf, to put the bullshit aside for at least one weekend and to have a little fun together. Plus how many of us get to rub shoulders with world class skydivers? Come on after all, we are pretty small time here in Colorado compared to the jumping which goes on in CA, AZ, FL, NY, NJ, IL and TX. Well TJ Langren of Skydive Arizona will be out at the Moab boogie doing freefly and tracking load organizing. And for those of you who haven't had the pleasure of meeting or jumping with TJ, I can tell you from personal experience that he is one hell of a cool character. He's got world class freeflying skills, he's one of the top competitors on the PST and well as I said, he's one hell of a character to be able to rub shoulders with and to bullshit with over a beer at the camp fire. And if freeflying is not your thing, several very talented RW people from CO who were recently out at Perris Valley doing 100+ way sequentials, will be there. Plus if I'm not mistaken Jay Epstein will be there organizing birdman flocks and Jimmy and Marta will be there for those of us who have the gear and the knowledge to huck ourselves off of the cliffs while the experienced swoopers are swooping these cliffs. How many times can you do this sort of fun stuff at Mile-Hi, Brush or SDTR? Of course all of us who are planning on hucking ourselves off of or swooping the cliffs need to keep safety in mind. None of us wants to be hurt (or worse) and we sure don't want to give this boogie a black eye because of unsafe stupid behavior. So put the bullshit aside for one weekend and come on out and have some fun at Moab October 1st through October 3rd. You won't regret it. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
CO jumpers, get yourself out to the Moab Boogie
CanuckInUSA replied to CanuckInUSA's topic in Events & Places to Jump
There has been a lot of back stabbing and bickering going on here in the Colorado skydiving community lately and makes me wonder why are we so different than other more civil regions around the country? How is it that operations like Perris Valley and a Elsinore can cooperate (Elsinore sending Perris their airplanes when big-ways are organized). Yet we sit here and try to mess with each other. One dropzone scheduling a boogie and under cutting their lift ticket prices on the same weekend that another dropzone has scheduled a boogie weeks in advance. Anyway, I digress. But now we are given an opportunity to redeem ourselves. All indications are that the (Mother Of All Boogies) out at Skydive Moab Friday October 1st through Sunday October 3rd will be something to remember for all who plan on attending. And I would also like to add that the DZO of Skydive Moab (Clint MacBeth) is one hell of a nice individual who bent over backwards one weekend last January when myself and a few friends showed up unannounced to jump at his DZ when no one else was around. So for all of you Colorado jumpers who would like to support Skydive Moab, want to have some fun and want to see some spectacular scenery, let's all get out there and show Clint what we're made of. LOL ... and the winner is ... Kelly. Tuna give it a rest. You're the one who is sounding a little obsessed. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

There was just some confusion as to exactly where you were in relation to the winds. But since the wind was at your back, 2/3 brakes (or rear risers) was a good option. Anyway congrats on your 1st (yes you should owe beer) off DZ landing and good job for not having the "get-back-itis" syndrome. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Oops ... my bad. I knew it was the first weekend of a month. I just got my months wrong and it's probably related to altzeimers more than alcohol. My log book is showing that I made jumps in Sebastian on Nov 1st and 2nd of last year. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

I don't mean to flame you or anything, but I'm surprised nobody has mentioned this yet. What was a student skydiver (remember you are a student until you are licensed) doing jumping in 30 mph winds? Shit I don't even think I would want to be jumping in 30 mph winds (even though I'm sure I have at some point in time). When you get a chance, try to get some canopy coaching. Flying into some strong head winds in 2/3 brakes was not the thing to do. Using the sweat spot trick, the thing to do would have been to (well besides not jumping in the first place) fly in either full flight or to use your front risers to get out of the wind. You may not penetrate with your front risers, but at least it get you down and out of the winds and not risk flying backwards. Anyway ... congrats on your first off DZ landing and more importantly congrats on not killing yourself. But next time try to get a wind check before you jump. Say it ain't so!!! Last year the Bytch Boogie was NOT held on Thanksgiving. It was held on the first weekend of December. Well if you guys must have it on Thanksgiving, then I must regretfully inform you that I won't be there unlike last year (not that my presence would really mean anything in the grand scheme of things). As far as Thanksgiving Boogies are concerned, my presence at the Turkey Boogie in Moab was all etched out in pencil. But now I find myself wanting to attend Jim Slaton's Ground Launching Camp out in CA the weekend before Thanksgiving and I'm going to see if the whuffo boss will let me have the time off to go do that instead. I'll still try and show up to the Turkey Boogie (on Saturday and Sunday) if the boss lets me attend Jim's camp, but the camp will mean more for my canopy control progression then some fixed object jumps in Moab would. I wish I could do it all, but I can't. At least not while I hold a job in corporate America. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

I had the exact reaction when I found this site, reading the fatalities reports after my tandem and before my first AFF jumps. But if jumping is something which truly interests you, you'll find a way to over come these fears. Yes I am sure that X number of deaths and injuries are a result of this. But many of the deaths and injuries are really the result of poor canopy control decisions due to either lack of education, lack of respect (getting in over your head before your skills and experience catch up to your desires) and just plain bad luck. Flying our modern high performance canopies (something hopefully you won't want to do for a while) requires proper training and respect. I have always thought that I had decent canopy control skills (where have we heard that one before) because I was a pilot before I jumped and I stand up about 99.5% of my landings. But recently I just came back from some high performance canopy control training with a world class canopy control coach ... and wow ... this guy totally opened my eyes as to how much I didn't know. And even in his own words, it's not that I didn't already know much of the material in which he taught me, it was that I was doing things out of sequence in most cases. I still stand the risk of cratering ... as does anyone else (even the ultra experienced have cratered), especially those who fly high performance canopies. But now that I have been armed with some proper instruction, I have a better chance of surviving now. Be smart, educate yourself on the gear, seek coaching (it's worth it) and know that you are not immune from death (make sure you have come to grips with your mortality as it's been said on here before than one can do everything right on a skydive and still die). And for sure if you plan on flying high performance canopies, seek out qualified coaches and take your time. It's a long road requiring thousands and thousands of jumps towards becoming that bad ass skydiver most of us would like to be. Welcome to the sport ... or should I say lifestyle. Why are some people all of a sudden trying to slander B-Square (and G-Square in another thread)? These are two classy Eloy people who deserve our respect and I have had nothing but positive encounters with them. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

A smaller canopy will penetrate into a strong wind better than a big one, but no canopy regardless of its size is immune from this problem if you are too deep in the brakes in high winds. Remember your angle of incidence is changed while in brakes (the person under the canopy is swung forward) and you are closer to the stall point. If you exceed the limits of your canopy (regardless of its size) and the canopy swings behind the jumper (much more likely to happen in high winds) then the jumper is going to land on their ass, or worse their back and if this happens from a few feet above the ground, then ... owe-che-ca-wow-wa!!! Best place to train in october

This has all changed. There are some computers next to the coffee shop which will give you the net access you need. Go to either Perris or Eloy (if you don't want to go to a FL DZ). Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
You're only asking for a trip to the ER if you do this in high winds. You're canopy stands a chance of being blown behind you and you could be dumped on your ass from a feet above the ground and slammed onto your back. Don't do it!!! It's okay to try and get good a sinking it in (using a canopy designed for this task like a BASE canopy or an accuracy canopy), but 3/4 brakes in high winds on a Sabre 170? Owe-che-ca-wow-wa I say. I bet we'd have a hard time guessing the "Male or Hemales" if they had one of those. The female-to-male TS are much harder to out than the male-to-female. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

I saw Luigi this weekend out in Perris Valley wearing weights around his waist as well as weighs on each foot. I didn't take notice to any cutaway system he may have been using around his waist, but he did have foot cut away cables on his foot weights. And I joked with him that he was going to need to cutaway his feet and then stumble around a bit. By the way, did you ever get your lunch money back from Jay?
