I'll jump out of a helicopter all day long for $20, practicing some gainers in antiticipation of some future aerobatic fixed object fun. And you don't even need to take me up to 5k. I'll do it at any altitude at or above 2k (even lower if I'm allowed to bring a certain type of rig). Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

I pro-pack my BASE rig. Well at least the initial stage of my pack job resembles the pro-pack that you're familiar with. Plus also just as in skydiving, in BASE there is more than one way to pack. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

You'll get a much more extensive list of attendees if you post this thread (or a greenie moves it there) in the DZ.COM BASE Jumping forum. I know of numerous peeps who plan on being at Bridge Day (after this weekend's Go-Fast Games). But many of them can only be found in the DZ.COM BASE Jumping forum. Are you saying that your ass is better than mine? LOL ... I'd be willing to bet that you couldn't find anyone to disagree with you. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

I regret to inform you that my sorry rear end will not be seen out at the New River Gorge Bridge two Saturday's from now. But I some how know that my absence will not effect anything, in anyway. Have fun and be safe. BASE jumping (even Bridge Day) is not to be taken lightly. Finally I would like to add that: "Every day is Bridge Day at the Perrine Bridge in Twin Falls Idaho" Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Does Kerry *Look* Like A Televangelist (Appearance, Not Conduct)?
CanuckInUSA replied to a topic in Speakers Corner
Are you telling me that you're going to vote for someone based on their appearance? Good God is there any wonder why society is so fucked up. Vaniety Rules in too many people's minds. Get a grip dude and vote for the person who represents your beliefs, not how they look. And before you start spewing crap that you're above all of this and do only vote for the person who reflects your views, why don't you ask yourself (and please tell us, I'm curious) why you started this stupid thread? Added an "E" to my collection of object types jumped
CanuckInUSA replied to CanuckInUSA's topic in Archive
Hey Abbie Congrats on your jump. You've got an interesting object to add to your log book and Ray is a good guy to have there with you for that first "E". Oscar and another fellow were there on my first "E". And speaking of "Es", I'm having a hard time relating to the rest of the world ever since my first "E" and especially since my first remote backcountry "E" on Sunday. I can't help but view things differently now. I'd hate to call skydiving safe (because it's not), but it sure is a hell of a lot safer than what I was doing Sunday. Added an "E" to my collection of object types jumped
CanuckInUSA replied to CanuckInUSA's topic in Archive
Well I'm happy to report that I'm no longer a one object BASE jumper. I've added 2 new earth bound exit points to add to my collection of jumps off of the legal span in Idaho. On Saturday morning myself and two other people hiked to the top of ######## before we hucked ourselves off of the cliff and landed on the road. I then went back to the Skydive Moab boogie to pack and made a couple of skydives before I ventured back to the same object for a sunset load with some different people. Then while sitting in the parking lot after my 2nd earth bound jump, myself and the people there started to talk about hitting a new exit point all day on Sunday. So Sunday morning, myself and 3 other people meet up and we made the longish drive into ####### ###### and we start hucking ourselves off of ####'# #### and I have to say that this exit point for the first time in my short BASE jumping career made me feel like a real BASE jumper. Not only is the exit point in a remote location, it also has a landing area with plenty of obstacles, obstacles which I haven't had to deal with at the bridge in Potato Land as well as the road we can land on out at ########. But everything went off as planned. I made a total of 4 earth bound jumps this weekend, 2 at ######## and 2 more at ####'# ####. Good stuff I tell you (this earth bound jumping), but serious shit nonetheless. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
0:6:0 No humps ... 6 jumps in total. 2 skydives made at the Moab boogie and 4 earth bound BASE jumps from two different exit points around Moab. Beer could have been owed for my first earth bound BASE jumps, but wrong sport. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Yes Wendy does bring up some good points. Whuffos don't understand what we jumpers consider humor and what we consider inappropriate behavior. Having a cartoon of 4 people wrapped in bandages, suspended from the ceiling turning points with the nurse saying they were the ones involved in the skydiving accident - Good Humor Outside of using the carnage video as a learning tool, showing people (especially whuffos) jumping carnage video for the sake of showing it - Inappropriate Behavior I guess this friend doesn't know what's is good taste and what's not? I think the best way to deal with your friend is to continue to jump, make good decisions, learn as much as you can about your gear and get several hundred more jumps under your belt. I've seen huge differences with friends, family and co-workers since I started jumping. I'm sure that many of them thought I wouldn't survive. But after putting up 800+ total jumps in 27 months (not a huge figure, but not a trivial figure as well), many of the same people are starting to realize that we don't always kill ourselves out there. But the potential of death and dismemberment always exists in our sports as well as life in general. "The greatest risk is not taking a risk at all" - from the movie Adrenaline Rush. A friend who is a new skydiver was at a BASE jumping movie premier with many of us last night. Near the end of the movie, there is a carnage section (showing some BASE incidents ... some humorous ... some not) and then this morning we talked of the movie. He made comments about the carnage and I told him I thought it was appropriate to put that sort of stuff in the movie. The sooner we jumpers realize the dangers in these sports, the better prepared we will be towards dealing with them when (not if) they happen to us. Make enough jumps and some shit is going to try and jump up and bite your ass. The question remains, are you ready for it, or are you in denial. Not a slam on you, you just need to be aware of the dangers in jumping. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

I caught the whuffo premiere of Continuum II in a Boulder CO bar last night and my first reaction once the movie ended was ... hmmm .... I need to watch this again. There's definitely some good stuff in this new movie with some innovative camera techniques and technologies. And I really want/need to watch this movie many more times. But it's not like the first Continuum movie and I still like that iteration very much as well. If I'm not mistaken, advanced orders can be placed now, but the actual DVDs will be ready for delivery in a few weeks? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Downsizing, whats the rush?
CanuckInUSA replied to jjiimmyyt's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
If you're serious about your canopy flight, you will need to dedicate jumps towards learning how your canopy flies (regardless of whether or not it's a big or a small canopy). Flying a smaller canopy isn't a big deal. But it takes time, patience and dedicating jumps towards flying your canopy up high, flying it close to others and seeking instruction from qualified canopy control instructors so as to learn good habits and not get into any bad ones. It's good that someone with 75 jumps doesn't want to downsize. It shows that you have good sense and that the message is getting out to some. But the bottom line is how much time are you willing to spend towards learning the flight characteristics of each canopy you fly (it usually taking hundreds and hundreds of jumps per canopy to truly understand them). Show good judgement towards how you learn each canopy you'll ever use, seek training from qualified instructors (I'm off to do some ground launch training in CA in November to go along with some coaching I did in Perris Valley a few weeks ago), be honest with your goals and your self evaluation and you'll know when the time is right to change canopies. Notice I didn't say downsize. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
Are you sure about this? I've heard talk that some people are communicating with the NPS, so things may get better in the future. But what concerns me here is that this is a recent incident (two weekends ago) and the guilty are people we know, and who often post here. Plus it really sucks that they got fined $2000 and lost their gear. But those are some of the risks we take I guess? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Cheapest tickets for HOP n POPs?
CanuckInUSA replied to foreverfree's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I don't know if it is the cheapest, but it sure is nice and cheap. Skydive Ogden out in Ogden Utah charges their fun jumpers $9 for hop n' pops. Plus both DZs close to me in CO (one a 20 minute drive and the other a 90 minute drive) both charge me $15 for 4k hop n' pops. Who knows what altitude you'll actual get, but don't ask the pilot at one of these local DZs for a little more than the standard 4k because they will call up manifest and manifest will charge you for 8k even if the pilot only gives you 4.5k ... something that happened to me earlier this summer. And they wonder why I'm a little perplexed with their operation? Skydive Ogden rocks for their fun jumper cheap jump tickets. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -

CO jumpers, get yourself out to the Moab Boogie
CanuckInUSA replied to CanuckInUSA's topic in Events & Places to Jump
Is it time yet? Shit before you know it, we'll all be in Moab (some like you if I'm not mistaken, before others ... that would be me). Well INS has given you at least one more year of slaming me. In other words, you didn't try hard enough telling them home much of a bum I was, they let me in for another year. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
