Oh please tell us your evidence. No let me guess, it's written in that book of yours. That book that was written by humans thousands and thousands of years ago is FACT? LOL ... that is the funniest thing I have heard in a long time. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

I don't think the bashfest is because of your landing. I'm guessing it's because of something else. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Please take my newbie comments with a bolder of salt, but I seemed to have noticed that way too many people concentrate on the freefall aspects of BASE and not enough consider the canopy aspects (as you so astutely pointed out here). It's the succesful canopy flight which allows us to make that next load. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Jumping is tons of fun and for sure you are not alone when we say that it has effected our lives as well. But make sure you have some balance in your life. If the only thing that matters in your life is jumping, then there is a chance that you're on the road to burning out as others have done before you. Jumping can still be a big part of your life, but make sure it's not the only thing in your life. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

There will be locations on the ground which move from the horizon down towards your feet. If you do nothing with your canopy controls and the wind conditions do not change, you will over fly these locations. Likewise there will be locations on the ground which will be moving up towards the horizon. Once again if the wind conditions do not change, you will not make it to these locations. But there will be a point on the ground which does not move up and it will not move down, it will only get bigger and bigger in your view. If you don't change the canopy control inputs and the winds do not change, this is where you are heading. This is called the accuracy trick and the sooner you start using it, the better off you will be. There are a million other things that we can tell you, but not only do we not want to over load you with info, but they are also things which can and should be taught to you once you gain more experience. But I would like to leave you with one last thought. Do not get the case of "get-back-itis" syndrome. By the time you are about 1000 feet above the ground, you absolutely need to have already selected a landing area that you know you can make. If the accuracy trick tells you that you can't make it back to the main landing area, well you can't make it back. Many people have been messed up because they thought they could make it when they couldn't. It's kind of like asking that guy/girl, so how many perfectly good fields to land in did you pass while on your way to landing in that tree? I hope what I have said has made sense to you. Then don't listen to it. I'm not a fan of Billy Joel either. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

I sure hope so. Two of my four cliffs jumps are into it and I'm still pretty new to all this BASE crazy'ness. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Next Four Years: no policy is too right-wing
CanuckInUSA replied to ChasingBlueSky's topic in Speakers Corner
This should be a no brainer. Private schools need to be funded by the parents and alumni of the students attending these private schools. Why should the tax payers fund private education? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
Currently I have no proof that Dobson has told his followers this. But as someone who's been exposed to plenty of "Focus on the Family" people down in Colorado Springs I can tell you that I have had many debates with these people about God and the Devil. Personally I think many of the people I met down there are nut cases, but that's just my opinion. Oh that wasn't me who just called a segment of the population nut cases ... it was the Devil. I don't know what is being taught in these schools. But several years ago while I was living and working in Colorado Springs, I ran into a number of people from "Focus on the Family" who claimed that the earth is only 7 (or so) thousand years old and that any so called evidence of dinosaurs and geology was actually the work of the devil. They've been doing this in Kansas for years now. But I understand that the school superintendent in Georgia wants to strike the word "Evolution" from all school texts. More can be read about it here. So what do you believe in? And is it right for students in public schools not to be taught about evolution? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

0:5:1 I didn't jump at all on Saturday due to an injury. But I made it out to the DZ on Sunday despite a sore elbow and did some fun jumps: - Two hop n' pops. - A good 3-way freefly jump for my 800th. - A fun tracking dive for Basehoundsam's 1000th. - A fun hybrid jump (3-way base, 3 hangers but no stingers or no outside video). Beer owed (not paid) for doing my 800th jump as well as the first time that I've flown in the base on a successful hybrid jump. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

I have eight words of advice for you: "It is a parachute, it wants to open". Okay, don't take me too seriously. But unless you're packing a pocket rocket cross-braced canopy (or doing a BASE jump or packing a reserve), packing need not be a big ordeal. Yes get somebody to show you how to pro-pack. But don't worry about being super neat. Just follow the fundamentals: 1) Fabric to the outside, lines to the inside. 2) Lines taunt. 3) Pilot Chute cocked. 4) Slider all the way up. "It's a parachute, it wants to open". Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

I didn't jump on Saturday (my elbow couldn't move without pain ... and I'm not shitting you ... I was in a lot of pain on Saturday), but for some reason I guess the swelling came down, the pain went away and I did get five jumps in today. But I fear that tomorrow night when I'm off playing two hours of volleyball that it will come back. But I can't slow down. There's just too much to do. So I guess I need to suck it up and stop whining. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Dang ... couldn't you have used a picture of me since my weight loss? (I look fat in that pic). Then again, you haven't seen me since I lost some weight (lost between now and last year's Holiday boogie). By the way, to date the only kiss pass I have receive is from Sunshine, and yes that was a cool jump when I lost my kiss-pass-vigin-ness from Sunshine. So can we say the same thing about you if you're ever diagnosed with a terminal disease or injured/killed while jumping? Pretty fucked up thoughts if you ask me. Put you partisan politics aside for a second and realize that someone's life is at stake. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Hey cut me some slack. I've got altziemers (sp?). Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Wait to you get to be an ole fart like me. The injuries come often and take longer to heal. But I'd rather burn out than fade away. ibuprofin + water == tequila doesn't it? But ice is a good idea. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

What are you trying to do, kill me? Bowling on this elbow right now would really suck. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

It's the forearm, but the pain is in two places. One spot is right where the funny-bone is (inside of the elbow) and the other spot is also on the forearm, but on the outside. It hurts extra when the elbow is extended, but it's also a dull pain when I'm resting. I'm pretty sure it's a tendon problem (I hope it's not torn or anything like that). But some te-kill-ya might help. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

I think of euthanasia as a way to end one's suffer when stricken with some sort of terminal disease. Suicide, while depression is involved is different. I think many of us at some point in our lives have give suicide some thought (maybe not serious thoughts, but come on, many people have thought about it). But all I need to do is remember the good days and have hope that the good out number the bad. Euthanasia is a whole different can of worms. I support euthanasia, but not suicide. I hurt my elbow tonight playing hockey and I'm in pain. It's some sort of tendon injury and I'm concerned that I won't be able to jump this weekend (we'll see how it is in the morning). To add insult to injury, the team I was playing for tonight is not a very good team (2nd worst team in the league) and I was sub'ing for a friend and am supposed to be a ringer on this team. I hit the post once, shot the puck over a wide open net and came close on several other occasions. But all I could muster was one lousy assist in a losing effort (it was a nice pass to the dude standing in front of the net). Now I was playing defense and I am happy to report that I wasn't on the ice for a single goal against. But I'm still bummed about losing, not scoring since I'm supposed to be a ringer and even more bummed about this injury. I love playing the game of hockey, but I can't seem to stay away from injuries nowadays and I never got hurt in the good ole days (back in the 80s and 90s). Oh well, let's see what some te-kill-ya can do for me. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

As JP has already alluded to. It sure helps to have a penis to play with if you want a big forearm. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

I'm hoping to be there. I've already book the "Colorado Pet Care" people to take care of my critter that weekend and I made sure my move from Boulder to Westminster was done before this weekend. So my only wild cards are: 1) Surviving (without injury) Jim Slaton & Crew's 4 day Ground Launch camp in Bakersfield CA one week before the Turkey boogie. 2) Not being fucked over by management here at work and being asked to work the long weekend at the last minute. I'm optimistic that I'll be in Moab. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Machine Error Gives Bush Extra Ohio Votes
CanuckInUSA replied to ChasingBlueSky's topic in Speakers Corner
I'm okay with Bush's victory the other night (economically I side with conservatives, I just don't like GWB). But I wonder why the USA is unable or uncapable of conducting an election where national standards are not adhered to all across the land. Believe it or not, Boulder county here in CO is still counting the votes from Tuesday (they've only got about 70% of the votes counted) and they don't expect to be finished until early next week. So if this county is still counting votes, how many other places have the votes not been properly counted? Why isn't there a national standard for voting and tabulating the results in tune with the 21st Century world we live in. Other countries are able to do this. Why is the most powerful country in the world unable to conduct an election where you know your vote was counted and counted properly? I'm sure mistakes exist for both Bush and Kerry votes, so I'm not crying foul. But I just don't understand why the USA is unable to have national voting standards. PS: I do like that US citizens are able to vote for local by-laws during their election processes. Case in point, the people here in CO were given the opportunity to vote on whether or not they wanted to improve their light-rail transit system (which they approved). North of the border we vote in our members of parlament and then those clowns decide what gets approved and what doesn't. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
