House OKs flag desecration amendment... PASS IT!
CanuckInUSA replied to rhino's topic in Speakers Corner
LOL ... I was waiting to get flamed not praised for that post. I was raised in a Christian home (my parents took us to church but we weren't your typically bible thumpers). But since then I have seen too much shit in my time to believe in the Christian rhetoric (or as I said ... all man made religions). I have no problems with people believing in God. In fact I kind of have my own personal relationship with God (if God does indeed exist). But I have issues with people telling me that this man-made religion is right while all the others are wrong. They're all wrong as far as I'm concerned. Back on topic ... I hope this law isn't passed. I don't believe that people (American or Foreigners) should desecrate a national emblem such as a flag. But where do you stop? Next thing you know the US congress will be passing a law to ensure that everyone eats one slice of apple pie after each and every dinner. Of course I won't need to worry about this soon as the INS will be deporting my ass sometime before the year is out. Illegal immigrants willing to work for peanuts are welcome in this country while educated computer professionals with 20 years of experience are told to leave. Of course I'm fed up with all the crap in corporate America, so maybe leaving is a good thing for me. If I'm lucky I can pass the light gun test (I have a restriction on my medical due to my red/green color deficiency), get my commercial pilot rating and become a CFI, CFII and MEI (as well as of course eventually getting my TM and AFF ratings). I won't be rich, but at least I'll be happy taking to the skies to teach people how to fly as well as how to skydive. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
The problem I've had with my last whuffo girlfriend and the potential whuffo women I have met is that they don't understand why I want to spend my weekend jumping instead of being with them. I can understand why they got frustrated what with me putting jumping ahead of spending weekends with them, but this is who I am. I am addicted to playing in the skies either through flying aircraft, jumping out of aircraft or jumping off of fixed objects. It ain't easy being me. Then again I'm sure it's not easy being any one of us right? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

well hellooooo

Not sure how accurate it is, but my ProTrack reads "12:42:16" after 1073 skydives. I can tell you though that I have "0:01:36" after 72 BASE jumps.

House OKs flag desecration amendment... PASS IT!
CanuckInUSA replied to rhino's topic in Speakers Corner
What a crock of shit. You mean to tell me that an infant who died soon after birth commited sins? I'm not addressing who gets into heaven. I'm simply addressing who has commited a sin. Once again I call bullshit. Then again I think the whole Christian religion is bullshit. Ah shit why stop there. I think all man made religions are bullshit. They only exist as a way to attempt to control people. Now what does religion, healthcare and all the other crap being mentioned in this thread have to do with the US passing a law against burning the US flag? I will only kneel when an "All of the above" option is provided. Until then I can't vote. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Here's coming to visit us here in Colorado if I'm not mistaken. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

If only it was that simple. How about being forced to remain single since the ratio of men to women in this sport favors the fairer sex. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

There is a shit load of old timers who do RW at my DZ. There's also a shit load of newer people getting into RW. The DZ has it's fair share of freefliers, wingsuit jumpers and there are a few CReW dawgs as well. And of course we have a swoop course setup usually all the time with a 1/2 dug (hopefully soon to be completed even though nothing seems to have happened in the last week or so) swoop pond to tend to us crazy swoopers. So this DZ in CO pretty much has everything except no sky-ball jumps, tubes or raft dives due to our close proximity to civilization. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

You need at least 500 jumps (plus at least one cutaway) and three years in the sport to be a TM. So you better get busy jumping. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

He's actually a little too head high on this attempt. Of course it's better to be head high than to be head low. Plus it's nothing that 10,000 practice attempts can't fix. When's his first aerial attempt going to be? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Good canopy for learning to swoop?
CanuckInUSA replied to tetra316's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
I first started swooping large Sabre2s (190 & 170) before I moved down to a couple of Crossfire2s (139 & 119) before I moved onto my Velocitys (111 & 103). A Sabre2 is a great canopy to learn on. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
Same with myself with my FLiK. It's been dialed since day one when I got it. I'm still experimenting with my Rock Dragon. If it's off, it's not off by much. But I need to put more jumps on the Rock Dragon to know for sure. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

I made four Otter loads today. Not too shabby for a Wednesday.

The "godfather" of swooping?

Aren't those two clowns the founding fathers of Blade Running? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
What's the average descent rate for an airplane? Usually in the 500' per minute range. A swooper flying a cross-braced canopy will descent a tad over 100' per second depending on their turn. Damn skippy it can happen in a second while skydiving. Of course this comment has nothing to do with this incident. Sucks that these pilots messed up, but we're all a split second away from fucking up ourselves. Nobody ever said playing in the skies was safe. Well as of 10:30 am (MDST) I am sporting a new 3rd class aviation medical good until (June 30th, 2007) and I just visited my old FBO and reserved an airplane and my old flight instructor (who's not going to cut any corners with me) towards getting my BFR (Bi-annual Flight Review) signed off so that I can take to the air as PIC after my two year hiatis. Damn skydiving addiction took me away from flying. I am really curious to see how I handle the airplane in my two year absence. But if my recent flight sim practice is any indication, then I should be fine landing (I land better now than two years ago when I was current flying real airplanes). Anyway, I'd be interested in hearing from other pilots who took time off because of skydiving and got back into it. Plus if there are any Canadian pilots out there, it might be nice to compare notes on how the FAA and Transport Canada conduct business (for when the INS deports my ass later this year). Isn't this two seperate incidents. There's the CA guys who got hurt yesterday morning jumping in AZ. But this thread is concerning a fellow who jumped in Moab isn't it? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Well I'm not so concerned about the injured person's use of their Raven. I'm more concerned about people jumping low cliffs slider up, that's all. Guys like you have way more BASE experience than I have (so I do listen to you), but I've always been under the impression that on heading performance isn't as good on slider up jumps, and then to add a low cliff to the mix (yes they get lower but 500' is still low), it just seems like it was an accident waiting to happen. Once again, I'm sending get well vibes to the injured party. It's unfortunate that CNN got their noses in this accident as many of the things I heard them say compared to what people have said here is just not accurate. But then again, what was I expecting from the Whuffo media. Surely not some accurate news reporting. They would rather sensationalize a story (saying shit like his parachute didn't open and that he was jumping alone to name just a few) to up their ratings. The "godfather" of swooping?
CanuckInUSA replied to AggieDave's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
John is definitely an authority on canopy piloting (including swooping). Also, I'm not so sure about the "Godfather" label, but you've got to think that guys like Lyle Presse and Jim Slaton are some of the founding fathers towards today's competitive swooping circuit. Canopy Piloting Finnish Championships results
CanuckInUSA replied to vesatoro's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
It's nice to see how the other guys are doing, but comparing what one group of competitors does at one meet compared to a different group is like comparing apples to oranges. Who knows what sort of variable weather conditions exists and density altitude can also NOT be forgotten towards influencing the results. So when you see me do a 2.60 seconds on a 185 foot carving speed course through 10 foot gates, you can't say wow that guy is so much better than some guy from another part of the world who can only muster up 3.5 seconds on a similar course. We jumped in different locations with different WX conditions. Apples and oranges my friend. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
Come now AggieD ... isn't it common knowledge that a 400 jump wonder would be able to out-swoop a PST qualified swooper. I can't wait to become a 400 jump wonder. Oops ... too late ... I already was a 400 jump wonder a couple of years ago. Now that I have more jumps and am a competitive swooper, I know that I'm NOT all that. Shit I'm still struggling to crack the top five (I'm in 6th) to make it to the CPC championships this September (and I can be seen yeilding a billy-club ready to take the knees out from my closest CPC competition ... or Spizzzarko ... whoever is easier). It's not your pull arm, so you can go visit the bridge in Twin Falls (where everyday is Bridge Day), jump, pull with your good arm and then just land in the water. Of course the water probably wouldn't be good for the cast, but you'd still get a jump in. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
