What is your favourite part of skydiving?

I don't know very much about Islam. That's why I hardly ever say things about that religion. I know a lot more about Christianity because at a young age people tried to brain-wash me with that religion. As far as I'm concerned, both Christianity and Islam are wrong. They're both based on a book written by humans thousands of years ago as a way to control the masses. If I told you guys that God spoke to me last night, told me to write a book about some rules of life that we must follow otherwise we would burn in hell, then I'm pretty sure you guys would write me off as a nut case. So why were the creators of the bible and the Quran allowed to do the same thing thousands of years ago. Oh and I am amused that I've been labeled a Liberal because I'm not Christian. Where I come from I always thought I was a conservative. You know, pro business, small government, making sure people are responsible for themselves and not relying on government handouts, etc, etc, etc. But I guess only Christians are capable of wanting those things huh? That's just too funny ... you're killing me ... Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

I don't agree with Christianity. Personally I believe it's one of the world's greatest untrue brain-washing schemes ever created to control the masses and I certainly don't like it when this religion is imposed on me as it is often done in today's society. Am I wrong for judging Christians then? Hell ya I'm wrong!!! So I try (I'm not always successful) to let Christians do their thing just as long as they don't impose their ways on me (as they are often trying to do). Do you see the similarities here? If homosexuality was being imposed on people, then that would be wrong. But's homesexuality is NOT being imposed on you. All these laws are doing is allowing two individuals to be together and to have the same legal rights to healthcare decisions and insurance as any other couples would have. Try not to judge people who are different than yourself and I will try to not judge religious people as well. I'm out of here folks. I promised to help someone move today. But I'll check back later. How is a marriage between two individuals being imposed on you as an individual? Why should you care about what others are doing with their lives? Stop judging people and start accepting them for who they are. The world would be a whole lot better place to live if more people did this. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Running out landings & flaring technique
CanuckInUSA replied to Orange1's topic in Safety and Training
In a perfect world with perfect flares, yes one should never need to run out an landing regardless of the canopy you jump. But don't forget that we're in the middle of summer now when the density altitude (thinner air) can have an effect. We still need to do our best to finish our flares (not everyone does this) but when we're dealing with hot, humid conditions the air is thinner than normal. Add to that a little altitude to your field elevation and you've got a great way to see how density altitude effects us jumpers. All I can say is learn to finish your flare, but don't beat yourself up too much if you've got to run out (or slide if you know the technique) your landings. Thanks for the post jumpergirl. I wish more people were less judgemental of others. But unfortunately there are too many people who choose to judge people who are different from themselves. Oh I'm NOT gay, but I couldn't care less if a gay couple wanted the same rights that a straight couple would want. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

I do a good job of flying my wingsuit in the skydiving environment and I have a reasonable number of BASE jumps (72). But I won't be doing a wingsuit BASE anytime soon because I lack experience in the terminal BASE jumping environment. One really should do a shit load of wingsuit BASE jumps in the skydiving environment plus do a shit load of terminal BASE jumps before one mixes the two together. clicky As I was watching it for the first time I was thinking that you waiting too long to get off of the risers, but it wasn't until the camera panned that I realized it was an okay height. I'm just used to having to let off of the risers at a much higher altitude thanks to my ever so fun, yet deadly x-braced canopy. Nice job. Keep doing that for a while and you'll be ready for 180s. why are manifesters usually girls?

Because we're less likely to angry for being bumped by tandems or AFF students when it's done by a cute girl. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
Okay I admit that I'm guilty of not reading the entire bill. I just read the news story where they mentioned same-sex unions. I'm in the middle of trying to finish another jumping video and can easily be distracted. But can I ask you this? Are you Canadian? I'm guessing from your profile the answer is no (I could be wrong). So if you're not Canadian, what do you care about what's happening in another country? Or once again, is it America's business to butt their noses into every other country's business. If Canadians are offended by this bill then they will have the next government address it. But for now, through a democratic vote, the people have spoken. Oh and for the record, I've disliked the Canadian Liberal Party for years, it's one of the reasons why I'm down here. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Homosexuality isn't my thing, but I have no problems with allowing people to have the same sort of benefits that a normal couple would have. Then again I'm not a Christian and I'm not offended by the idea of a same sex union. Christians on the other hand believe that people like me will rot in hell because I don't buy into their rhetoric. To me the bible is the greatest fictional book to ever brain-wash so many by so few. Hey Aggie you know I like you. But it's not your country. Why do Americans feel so strong about influencing what goes on in another country. Oh I forgot, it's the American way to ensure that the entire world operates by America's rules. Like most people I had always wanted to try it, but never really got around to it. Then some volleyball friends had scheduled a day to go do some tandems and I told them I was game. Well the rest is history. I was the only one from my volleyball group that went back the next weekend for my AFF lessons. Of course I was already a licensed pilot at the time, I was used to being in the air and I told myself that my 1st skydive was just way too cool not to try again. That was 3 years (minus 2 weeks), 1085 skydives and 72 BASE jumps ago. My life will never be the same and I can't see myself going back to being a whuffo again. Skydiving changed my life both in a good as well as a bad way. But I can't go back ... who would choose such a life ... I would. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

NHL Player Jeremy Roenick is a complete asshole
CanuckInUSA replied to CanuckInUSA's topic in Speakers Corner
Bill you (or whoever said it) is right that we shouldn't get worked up about professional sports. I mean there are so many better things in life to do that to watch these spoiled millionaires complaining to billionaires. But at the same time, the NHL players are the best hockey players in the world and watching the skill at a live NHL game is a thrill to true hockey fans. But when guys like Roenick snub their noses at the people they most need to suck up to (the fans), you've got to wonder about their characters. But I gave up my season tickets just in time before the strike because I weighed the entertainment value I was getting for my $230 per game (for two seats ... yes they were very good seats ... just ask Remster ... I once took him to a game) because I was having way more fun spending my $230 at the DZ (which is 1-2 solid days of jumping) compared to the three hours of entertainment the NHL was giving me. I had no trouble selling my Avs tickets when one of the top teams came to town, but nobody wanted to buy the games when one of the basement dwellers came calling. In my opinion Gary Bettman is the leagues worst ever commissioner. He's the one who started the latest round of expansion which watered down the talent levels of the NHL. He's the one who was in command and never properly addressed the clutching-and-grabbing style which resulted in countless 1-0 and/or scoreless games. Remember the freewheeling style of play the NHL had back in the late 80s with teams like the Edmonton Oilers? Now that was some good hockey to watch. Finally ... Do you guys remember when some (not all) of the '98 US Olympic hockey team trashed the hotel rooms when they didn't do well in the tournament? Roenick was on that team. And after his remarks this weekend one has to wonder who really did act like such a child when he didn't get his way. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
Bummer ... the entire company I worked at folded back in April within a one hour period from when the board meeting started and when it finished. None of us (about 1000 employees, 100 in Colorado and the other 900 hundred in China and Barbados) were given severence. Plus I was force to pay into unemployment, but I'm not eligible to collect. It just goes to show how ruthless Vulture Capitalists can be. They would sell their own mothers if it meant making a buck. But I am lucky that I did have some savings and I've been playing (jumping) a lot since then. I know this isn't what you wanted to hear (me playing) but let it be known that you're not alone when it comes to losing one's job and because I lost my job, I'm about 95% certain that the INS is going to force me to leave the US before the year is out. I wasn't aware that you did such a jump and I can totally see why it is so special to you. Not only is Mike a super cool guy, but to have him blow you a kiss and wave goodbye with the sunset sounds cool. It almost brings a tear to my eyes. Well almost. We do miss you here K. I've done some cool freefly jumps, some cool tracking dives, some cool (yet scary) BASE jumps off of all 4 different object types, but to this date this most incredible jump I have made was when I took my wingsuit out of a hot air balloon and flew it over an urban environment for my 666th Devil Jump. There is video of the jump on skydiving movies, but the video and my 1st person memories of the jump are two radically different things. I'm sure if/when I do make a wingsuit BASE jump off of a big wall, it will surpass this jump. But to this date nothing is as satisfying as that jump.

I don't read all your posts, but I can't recall ever coming across something which you've said which I would be offended by (whereas I seem to regularily put my foot in my mouth). In fact you're very mature for your age and this can often be seen in your serious posts. Then again, females are usually more mature than guys at your age. Does AFF-I rating make skydiving a job?
CanuckInUSA replied to Icon134's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Good god, everyone except the person who started this thread has at least 1000+ jumps. I know I haven't been in this sport all that long, and I definitely know that I still have tons to learn in it and shouldn't be confused as one of the sports more experienced characters. But to call us all low-timers just goes to show what sort of ego you likely have of yourself. I can't wait to grow up to be cool like you. In the meantime I will continue to jump, continue to learn, hopefully I'll continue to have a lot of fun along the way and not mess myself up. I have a question for you. Do you only teach students or do you jump with low-timers as well. And if you do jump with low-timers, do you pay your own way or do you expect them to pay for your jump. If you do indeed jump with low-timers and pay your own way, then my hat goes off to you. But if you only jump with people when they pay your way, then you're exactly the type of person I'm referring to. I call them selfish. Whatever happened to giving back to the sport and jumping with people off of student status but who still need help? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
NHL Player Jeremy Roenick is a complete asshole
CanuckInUSA replied to CanuckInUSA's topic in Speakers Corner
Hockey is my favorite team sport. I will always love the game. But Jeremy Roenick can KISS MY ASS anytime he wants to and yes I doubt I will ever spend $$$ on going to another NHL game for a long long time. Those millionaires who like to fight with billionaires have priced me out of their market. I'd much rather spend the money on jumping. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
