  1. I think I'm currently paying about $150-$175 per BASE jump that I have made (factoring in the two rigs that I own, the initial FJC training and the travel to the various sites that I have jumped). On the surface it may appear to be cheaper than skydiving, but contrary to popular belief, BASE jumping is not free and neither is Ground Launching. Now if you've got an exit point that you don't get bored of, or a launchable hill, count yourself lucky. But in many cases a lot of travel and all the costs associated with travel must be factored in. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

  3. For most of my life I have lived in the 'burbs of various big cities. I have briefly tried living in a big city, but honestly I didn't like it, it's not for me. If I could I would live in the country about a 2-4 hour drive from a big city. But thanks to the profession I currently work in (software developer) I am pretty much forced to live in or near big cities and while you'd think tele-commuting might be an option. Very few companies seem to be interested in it (plus it's not the easiest thing to do from a motivational factor). So I'm pretty much screwed, I don't live "IN" the city like some other people do. But my neck of the woods is closer to the city life than it is to the burbs (or the country life I would like to try). Anyway, have you ever noticed that the hardcore city dwellers love living in the city so much that they aren't afraid to tell others how much better their lives are because they live in the city and you don't (and these city dwellers aren't afraid to throw tons on money on their fancy food and drink never afraid to remind you how much culture they have and how little you have and often call anyone who doesn't live in the city a red-neck). Now I know things go both ways, and if someone is happy in the city, or the burbs or in some small town or even the country. Then so be it. It's all about being happy, right? But city dwellers need to realize that not everyone is interested in their life style, just as not everyone likes being in the burbs, being in a small town or being in the country. So what are you? Is city life the only life for you? Are you in the burbs? Perhaps you've been in a small town all or most of you life? You maybe you prefer the country? What kind of dweller are you? 4. Unless I'm mistaken, there should have been a PST Swoop comp at Lake Wales FL this last weekend. Does anyone have the low-down on how things went? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

  6. Bush is a moron. But let's not forget that America already had a monsterous debt before Bush even thought of becoming prez. You can blame Bush for the Iraq fiasco, but you can't single him out for the debt the US government has been in for decades now. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

  10. It would be nice to see more immigrants put more effort into assimulating into their new countries. But we more established people need to also understand that the world has changed and gone forever are the days when one race, one religion, one language dominates North America and Europe. Here in Vancouver BC, the Orientals are now the dominant race (with tons of East Indians, Pakistanis, Latinos and Eastern Europeans also dotting the landscape). It's gotten to the point where caucasin English speaking people are in the minority. But what can we do? As long as the immigrants make some sort of effort to speak the common language when dealing with the general public, who are we to say that they can't speak their Mother tongues when they interact with themselves. The only difference I see here in Vancouver is that the Orientals seem to look down on pretty much everyone else as inferior races and for the most part they are not interested in interacting with anyone outside of their race. But they are the majority and the majority gets to do whatever it is they want to do in this world and minorities just need to learn to deal with it. It's funny as for most of my life I have lived as the majority. But now I must learn what it's like to be a minority. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  11. In the 2nd World War, Russia successful used women to help combat the Germans. There is no reason at all that a woman can't fight, kill (and be killed) just as well as her male counter part. So I feel that if a woman wants to be a combat soldier, let her. Now drafting women into the military is a different can of worms. But we're not talking about that right? 12. I'm thinking of trying Olympic style ski jumping next winter as I think there are a lot of similarities between ski jumping and swooping and next winter I will be living within about a 5 click drive of a world class ski jumping and bobsled/luge/skelton facility. I'm not sure if I want to try skelton though. I likely will be too busy healing from my inevitable hockey injuries. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  13. How do you make a cat go woof? Douse it in gasoline and set it on fire. How do you made a dog go meow? Freeze it and put it through a tablesaw. Oh by the way ... I do have a pet (a cat) and I do love the critter. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

  15. I started pulling down on my fronts as a "bizarro" way to control NOT over shooting my landing target on a large canopy and ultimately this behavior lead towards getting used to the added speed, then wanting more speed then oh there's a 90 degree turn? oh and a 180 turn? what you mean I can do a 270 or even bigger turns? Now look at me. I'm a swooper and I wasn't even supposed to be one when I first got into this sport. All because I used my fronts to not over shoot my target. You definitely "DO" want to learn to use your front risers and you don't even need to want to be a swooper. If you ever find yourself in wind, knowing how to use your fronts is important. You'll use them to get down out of the wind faster (you sure don't want to be blown backwards). Plus there is that old saying "speed equals lift". But remember that you need to learn the recover arc of the canopy. People get into trouble using their front risers because they hold on to them too long and don't give the canopy time to recover and thus either dig themselves out of the corner or they dig themselves into the hospital and/or worse their graves. Learn the recovery arc of your canopy. Go up high, induce some speed by pulling down on your risers, let them up and feel the canopy recover. Do that up high tons of times and try to get an idea as to how much altitude the canopy needs to recover before you ever try it close to the ground. It's not easy, but it doesn't take much to make a fatal mistake. We're all only as good as our last swoop as each and every one of us is a split second away from making a bad mistake. Swooping rocks!!! But it sure isn't safe. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  16. I've kind of sort of given up on whuffo women. They just want babies, houses that they picked out, the kind of guy who will go shopping with them on weekends and spend their spare time tending to the garden and they sure aren't interested in any of those crazy suicidal skydivers. So that limits me to skychicks and I'm pretty much low on the totem pole when it comes to the extremely limited supply of available skychicks being interested in a fart like me. So killing kittens is something that I must do and something that I must be contempt in doing. Sucks to be me ... but life is still worth living because ... well I enjoy playing in the skies so much. Now if I could stop my canopy from trying to kill me when I take it terminal. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

  18. Yes we do. But I don't think they are in Alberta. So you'll have to invade the entire country if you want our oil and to protect us from our nuclear ambitions. Oh and let's not forget that we are in desperate need of having a democratic government installed (or at least this is what you can tell to the American public in order to convince them that going to war with Canada is the right thing to do). Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  19. You guys could always invade and occupy Alberta and steal our oil. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  20. I didn't catch that and because of this I apologize if I came off the wrong way. I didn't get deported. I voluntarily left before it got to that point. It's just the INS had been making getting a work visa harder and harder year after year to the point where I finally said "fuck it" it's not worth the hassle. I left so that I could come back as a visitor whenever I wanted and maybe if circumstances change in the future, I might seek employment again in the US. But I wouldn't be moving all my stuff down like I did last time. I actually agree with him. The logicistics, let alone the impact to the economy is mind boggling. What I don't understand is why Bush isn't doing anything about securing the borders (and I'm not talking about passing laws that require people to possess passports). Sure it's a big border and sure it won't be cheap. But if Bush really was serious about National Security he would actually spend the money and put the people (I would assume it would be the armed forces) on the border(s). But Bush is full of rhetoric. He wants people to think that he's made a difference in the US's National Security issues. But thousands and thousands of migrants, drug dealers and who knows how many terrorists are crossing your borders everyday. You're 11 million illegals will be 100 million illegals before you know it. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  21. Well if that's the way you feel, stop your bitching and deal with you delinquent employees (either fire them or give them the day off). You clearly support illegal immigration and the free-for-all it's created with this sort of attitude. And while you're at it, stop whining about your National Security because it's open season on the US borders. If you guys aren't willing to secure them, then why should you care about who's crossing them. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  22. I'm confused (lol ... not the first time). Are you employing illegals? If yes, then I'm sorry you're getting what you asked for. If not, well then I think it sucks and you have a right to be pissed. I followed the rules, so when the INS told me to get the fuck out of the USA, I honored my visa (so that I could come back in the future at the very least as a visitor). I just love the double standards your government is living by down there. People who follow the immigration rules get fucked, and people who ignore them are allowed to stay. 23. My last few terminal openings have been spicey. The first few times I went terminal with it, nothing bad seemed to happen. But the last two terminal openings have me wondering if I should be going terminal with it. But you know what. There will be competitions where I'll need to take a delay. So I better figure something out. Oh and I wasn't wearing any added weight. I think I gained a few extra lbs this winter and my 20 lb weight belt (which isn't adjustable) will put me over the new limits. So I have been jumping without it. Didn't your farmer drive his tractor on top of your canopy? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  24. No the KA is down again as one of the flaps malfunctioned after the 2nd load you were on. It should be fixed by this coming weekend. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  25. That's easy. He has the two balls you normally think of in his scrotum and he has another ball attached to the chain his wife keeps him on. Sure I may be missing out on a few things in life, but at least I'm not tied down with a ball and chains. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
