  1. You could be my maid of honor. Wait a second, you can't be my maid of honor since I'm not a chick. You can be my best man. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  2. I don't even want to ponder your chicken and egg scenario. My point was to gather your news from multiple sources. To only gather it from one source sets yourself up to be potentially manipulated by the publisher of that news source. Remember the right and left wing media has their own respective agendas and to blindly follow one or the other means you're living in potential ignorance. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  3. I can't speak for Houston. Maybe people get a more balanced view there. But ride the bus or train here in Vancouver (the entire city not just one neighborhood) and 90% of the people who are reading some sort newspaper are reading these free publications. Remember I'm not trying to slam the left or the right. All I'm saying is get your news from more than one source before you start forming opinions on public policy. People are too easily manipulated when they only get one view of the picture. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  4. When people choose to obtain their news from only one source, they set themselves up to be easily manipulated by the people behind the scenes bringing them their news. Case in point, there are a couple of free daily newspapers here in Vancouver BC (I’m not so sure I would even call them newspapers). Most of the time, the news reported in these two free papers is the same news being reported in other sources (and these papers also have entertainment features so they are not all news). But since these papers are free to the public and readily made available at bus stops, train stations and street corners, the publishers get a lot of captive readers and over time the publishers are able to influence the public’s thinking in order to manipulate public policy. Now it just happens that these free papers are very left leaning socialistic views on the world and well it should be no accident then that the people of Vancouver are predominately left leaning socialistic people. Their opinions of the world are formed from the views they read “free of charge” day after day, month after month, year after year. Fox News is no different. If all you do is watch Fox News you’ll slowly over time start forming the same opinions as the people behind the scenes at Fox and to no surprise, the viewers of Fox tend to be very right leaning socially conservative religious people. If you want a truly balanced view on your news, you need to obtain your news from many different sources. Then you will be armed with the different views and you’ll be able to formulate your own unbias views on what’s happening in the world. But if people only choose to obtain their news from one source, well don’t be surprised when over time they end up in one camp or the other. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  5. What there's no water in that crater? You guys better start filling that thing as your PST comp is only 4 weeks away (which reminds me, if I want to be there for that event I better book a flight and time off of work). Oh and if water is in short supply there, you can have all the water here in BC as it's raining (again) for the ump'teenth time. Shit I've got a swoop pond slowly building in my balcony as it rains way too many ####'ing days here. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  6. No it's not. That's a common misconception too many people have. Colorado has some of the best weather in the entire US. It's sunny for over 300 days in the year and compared to places that actually experience real cold, it never gets cold in Colorado. But as Kelli mentioned in a follow up post, yes CO and/or Denver is a horrible place that people must avoid. Too bad all those Californians and Texans who moved there never got the message. Hold on a sec, Kelli and Derek did move to CO (years ago) from TX. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  7. Congrats. Where did you guys buy? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  8. For a second I thought I read "Hooknswoop is not getting any Shotgun" as in Shotgun the DZ.COM user. and of course he shouldn't be getting any Shotgun because not only should Hooknswoop only be getting some Skycat, Shotgun (Keely), the DZ.COM user is married. PS: I miss CO's awesome sunny weather. It's raining (again) here in BC. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  9. Are you asking this question because you want a backup for your backup? Or are you asking it because you just want to know if you can jump a main and a reserve which perform in a very similar manner. If you're asking this question for the latter reason, then yes there is nothing stopping someone from jumping a main and a reserve with compatible flight characteristics. But if you're looking for a backup to your backup, know that the reserve risers are attached to your harness and you can't cut your reserve away. So having two reserves and one main just doesn't make sense. Reserves are engineered to open. Hopefully you will have some trust in how they work and you'll trust that the rigger who packed the reserve did a good job. But nothing is guaranteed in this sport. You can do everything right and still die on a jump. But don't forget: "It's a parachute. It wants to open". Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  10. Huh? Am I bashing any specific DZs or boogies? Please enlighten me. When and where did I bash any specific DZs and/or boogies? WTF? I brought the point up because I've been to DZs/boogies that couldn't accomodate any extra packing jobs without knowing that you're going to have to wait and miss loads. Maybe you've been lucky enough to aways jump at DZs with tons and tons of packers and missing loads is never an issue for you. But I haven't. Get a grip I was never bashing any specific DZs or boogies. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  11. Packing a new ZP canopy can be frustrating. But there are tricks of how to do it. Buy a packer a beer or two and get them to show you some of these tricks. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  12. Besides my earlier post about knowing how to maintain you gear (that is a different subject, but related), you should know how to pack. That doesn't mean you need to pack for every jump. But if you are reliant on others to pack for you, what are you going to do when you're at a DZ or a boogie where no one is around or are too busy to get you on a load? You're going to sit on the ground instead of jumping, that's what's going to happen. If you think that there will always be someone around to pack for you, I've got some news for you. You obviously haven't been around to too many different DZs or different boogies. Most of the time your laziness won't hurt you. But there will be times when you just won't get to get jump because you don't know what you're doing. Packing isn't a big deal. Learn how to pack and more importantly learn how to maintain the gear. You'll never be a complete skydiver until you know how to do these two things. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  13. Dave you need to stop smoking for your own good. But I can vouch for Wingi Adventurechick and that is that he is a good guy. Get him to stop smoking and he would be a good catch for you. Since when did I become a match maker? LOL ... I need to get some breakfast ... I'll check back later. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  14. It's not like you're asking for the moon here. 1. Male 1/2 the population is male. 2. Ages 21-30 Shouldn't be a big issue. Unfortunately I'm outside of your age limits. 3. Skydiver This is a skydiving site, so there are plenty of us around. 4. Scuba Diver You could always get a skydiver to become a scuba diver (or visa versa) 5. Doesn't smoke cigarettes The trend in society is to not smoke (skydiving seems to attract a lot of smokers though). 6. Doesn't do hardcore drugs (pot doesn't count) Stay away from the fools who do hardcore drugs. 7. Doesn't have a bad temper You deserve to be with someone who won't lose their temper. 8. Treats his woman with respect We may not always understand you girls, but yes we need to respect you. I fall short on two points (age and I've never scuba dived). The age thing is not trivial, but the scuba/skydiving requirement shouldn't be a big deal as you can always get someone who already does one of these to try the other. But stand firm on you other requirements as they are good ones to have. It's better to be alone than to be in a bad relationship. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  15. Sure he exists. But he's gay. Just kidding ... he exists, just not in your neck of the woods. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  16. Did you even bother to learn how the gear works? How about maintaining the gear? If you needed to swap main canopies with you risers, would you know what to do? How about knowing the condition of your closing loop? What about the 3 rings? What about that pilot chute? Do you know what's going on there and what sort of maintenance must be done? Or do you just ignore gear checks and put your life on the line because someone else said it was good to go all because you're lazy? It's fine to be able to afford things and let others do the work of packing for you (there are plenty of jumpers who hire packers). But you will never build the appropriate skills of knowing your gear if you don't regularly inspect it and I'm sorry you can't properly inspect a closed rig. Packing is not a big deal, but not doing proper gear checks is. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  17. While it appears that a good chunk of the guys who competed locally in CO last season aren't competing there this year (what happened?), I see the tradition of trash talking hasn't changed. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  18. 1. Male Let me check ... yup it's still there and it works ... 2. Skydiver 1389 skydives and counting in a little under 4 years ... 3. 25-40 Doh!!! I'm 42. But I look and act a lot younger than my true age. 4. loyal Yup ... never cheated ... 5. honest Yup ... not into lying ... 6. travels Yup ... I should be in Oregon next weekend for a swoop comp. 7. not jealous Yup ... 8. not afraid to love I think so ... 9. good cook That's questionable ... probably can't live up to your expectations. 10. athletic Yup ... competitive hockey player and swooper. 11. not married, dating or ever unfaithful Definitely single ... Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  19. When you go to a DZ, do you get on a load and proceed to jump out of the airplane? If yes, then what more does this person want? You may not be a very experienced skydiver (that may take hundreds of more jumps and several years in the sport), but you are a skydiver nonetheless. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  20. CO in June? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

  23. The theory of evaluations? What's that? Where stock brokers fuck over the rest of the market in order to influence the price of a stock? There may or may not be a creator (call it God if you must). The universe and it's creation is beyond my comprehension. But who created the creator? If everything in the universe can not be explained (and thus the religious folks automatically claim only God could have done it), who created the creator? Surely you folks can't believe that God has always been around and will always be around for eternity (and all his/her believers will be sitting in heaven forever and ever with virgins coming out of your ying-yangs). At least science has explanations and tangable theories we can follow. Man made religions only exist to brain wash people into thinking a certain way to ensure that the masses can be controlled. I don't care if you're Muslim, Christian, Jewish, Hindu, Buddist. It's all the same crap. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  24. Lately I've had to lean forward just to see over my ever increasing beer belly. 6+ months of rain on almost a daily basis (plus the growing appetite for beer) has helped me gain some extra weight this year (hopefully I can keep in check somewhat now that summer is around the corner). But hey if I can't load up with a weight belt, at least I can load up the beer belly. Now what does this have to do with the topic at hand. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  25. I like that too except that I work downtown and the commute from the sticks (or the burbs) would suck. So while I don't live downtown with the rest of the "isn't city life great" people, I still live in an area of town which is much closer to the city lifestyle than the burbs and/or the sticks. What I really need to do is quit the computer biz and find some other form of work where I don't need to be remotely close to the downtown of big city. But I still haven't figured that part out yet.
