  1. If you defy God at times, it's not puppeteering, but if you follow Her advise slavishly.... Do you defy God a lot? AA/NA is irrational nonsense. That wouldn't be a problem if it actually worked, but the effect of 12 steps programs is apparently very hard to measure. This could because it has hardly an effect or no effect at all. To me it looks like the next scheme to sell God to weak members of society, in this case people who go through withdrawal. Until it's proven that AA/NA is effective in the treatment of addiction I consider it to be (something akin to) quack medicine at best. Quack medicine that looks remarkably like organized religion or even a religious cult.
  2. Actually I'm quite bright, so there's nothing wrong with my understanding, it's more like terms like "spiritual death" don't make sense. It's just religious lingo that only make sense if you abandon rational thought which according to you is the way to roll (I think) Actually that's not deep at all, it's comparable with meditating on the colour of laughter. Unless you're insane or under the influence of hallucinogenics those questions don't make sense at all. So faith works best if you stop using your mind? I think I agree with that. So this Higher Power pretty much uses you as a puppet or does it only give direction and you decide for yourself if you use it? If I'm not mistaken you're repeating Alcoholics Anonymous nonsense here, aren't you? There's an internal monologue which kind of makes sense because I'm the only one in my head, if I start hearing voices and act on that, it's time for some serious medication not meditation.
  3. Marriage is whatever society decides it is. Same-sex marriage is about the most boring variation on the concept of marriage after the Monogamic heterosexual marriage and Polygyny. Especially in America I might add. Among American natives same-sex marriage was common. Time to adapt to local customs I think.
  4. lolwut? Could you elaborate a bit here? I'm not familiar with the teachings of what ever religious cult it is where you picked up these words of wisdom. PS: If they offer you Cool-Aid Flavor-Aid, it's best to politely decline the offer, btw.
  5. Well, obesity is mainly a medical issue if you look at the financial side of it, so why wouldn't I talk about the medical socialization. However lawrocket is free to proof to us that countries which are relatively socialistic have the fattest citizens. Not that he would be able to.....
  6. This would mean that Scandinavians would have a giant obesity problem. They don't, because your argument is nonsensical. There is no correlation between socialization of health care and obesity.
  7. Yes, because cruelty will make it all go away? Don't get me wrong, if a baby raper gets accidentally raped to death by a herd of 6 rabid gorillas over the course of five days, my knee-jerk reaction is to pop a bottle of champagne and cheer. However I also realize that a penal system based on cruelty is not the best way to roll.
  8. I can see how the thumb signals would be confusing. What I meant that I think it's not right to lock someone up who's completely sane (or probably even: sane enough) and pondering suicide, to protect them from themselves. One of the scarier things I can think off, is being kept alive against my will.
  9. If someone is a suicide treat, a professional should asses if he/she is able to make that decision, and if that's the case I don't think society has the right to keep someone alive against their will. Yeah, I know, it's one hell of a task to actually decide if someone is able to make a decision to take their life.
  10. Is that so? I wouldn't know the details, but I can't imagine that the most important sport in the world pays less than some favourite local pass-time. You've no idea how insignificant American Fussball is on the rest of the planet, haven't you?
  11. It's the conflict between "We don't give a shit about other people, and other people know only know a lot about us because they're jealous" And "You're a racist hater for calling Americans relatively ignorant about other people" ,dear.
  12. That's a completely silly statement of course, why should we choose the planet over the economy,
  13. I think you failed to notice that real Football is the most popular sport on the planet and that besides Americans hardly anyone is interested in American Armoured Rugby. Rugby gets the few specimens that aren't afraid they might break a nail.
  14. If it's anything like the Dutch gay prides, the stories about a copulation mass off same sex couples is mostly urban myths. It's loads of decently dressed people and some exception with a complete lack of manners. Still I don't think it's the best way to lobby for gay rights, btw. But I get your point, the obscenity laws are mostly vestigial, but they're still there potentially restricting FoS. American "Football" only proves that Americans aren't able to understand basic words like "foot" and "ball. Also if real Football is so easy, why do Americans suck at it so badly, that they instead rather play the osteoporosis friendly version of Rugby?
  15. OTOH, people can't survive if the ecosystem collapses (too much). If the time comes we've to choose between saving the bee and saving 1.000.000 people, we better have our priorities right and save the bee. But I agree that animal right lobbies can by completely moronic. I've seen protests against the hunt of wild boar during periods of wild boar over-population. "Because of the cute piglets..."
  16. I know nipples are perfectly legal in 'Merica, but that doesn't mean that the First amendment isn't restricted. I think it was obscenity, libel, something with octrois and if I may guess things like doctors not being allowed to disclose medical secrets and stuff? And I also implied that I consider the FA as better than most European FoS laws. You also might have missed the part were I said I'm fooling around a bit. Now explain to me again why 'Merikans like to watch pro wrestling. Are you all repressed homosexuals?
  17. I thought post 13 was the tipping point, but your post (#11) may qualify too. Thanks for starting WW III As for Greece, the only thing I care about is that we are paying billions to those ***********. If they find a way to kick Greece out of the union, they can find out for themselves where they are without "Nazi" Merkel, and the rest of the countries (including mine) that pay for their incompetence, laziness and greed.
  18. Jeez, don't get all whiny with me. I even used [BAM] = Bash America Mode to make clear you shouldn't take me to seriously. If you hadn't noticed it, all kinds of stupid stereotypes are flying around and the discussion reached it's Godwin point like 100 posts ago. Besides I explicitly mentioned earlier what I really think. But you seem to be really upset about it, so I'll try to ignore my troll-ish tendencies. Btw, your post is conflicting.
  19. Except, for the restrictions of course. What's the problem here? It's true. I could have been a bit less sarcastic, but his interpretation of a simple sentence was not the brightest I ever saw. That could have been said in another way, but of course you don't have a problem with how it's said but who said it. You don't criticize right wingers who make similar statements. Double standards....
  20. I quote myself from post #77: And because that's definitely higher brow than (and in fact the opposite of) "Shut up stupid Americans" you'll predictably change the subject again.
  21. Discussing things =/= meddling. Try again.
  22. [BAM]That's fine with me, of course, being ignorant isn't illegal or something. The problem is that Americans are relatively ignorant AND have a tendency to meddle in everyone else's business AND a tendency to whine afterwards about how everybody hates you.[/BAM]
