Why is it the Govt's? I did not say it was. I honestly do not have an answer. I think it is all of our responsibility as Americans. I would not mind paying higher corporate AND personal tax to have nationalized health care. It will take someone smarter than me to figure out the details. You hit the nail on the head there. We did provide health insurance to our employees for a couple years. Every year got more expensive until we could no longer afford it. I would love to at least subsidize our employees health insurance but it is so ridiculoulsy priced we just can't do it. I agree that as a country we should all have access to health care. I just don't knwo why it has to become the employers resposibility. You can't be drunk all day if you don't start early!

I bet it is cheaper to pay for a security force than to pay ransom.Seems like a sound business plan to hire a security force. You can't be drunk all day if you don't start early!

And the union's are supposed to listen to the will of there members. The members vote to leave the union and the union still pickets the company. Which now has no connection to the union. I have not argued that unions are perfect or blameless. Unions do some pretty damn stupid stuff. Regardless, the union is NOT responsible for managing the company, that is the exclusive job of management, given to management by the stockholders. If the execs agree to bad contracts with the union, shame on management. I understand what you are saying. Yes it is managements job to manage the company. It is the unions job to get what they can for the workers. The reality is a bunch of greedy people all trying to stick their fingers into the pot and get as much as possible for themselves. Whether union or management. When the pot gets smaller noone wants to be the one to take less. So in the end they all end up with no pot to stick their fingers into. Of course they can, and MANAGEMENT'S job is to make the best decision for the company, because THAT is what MANAGEMENT is paid to do. The union is NOT responsible for managing the company, that is the exclusive job of management. It is very hard to run a company when the employees are at the front gate picketing instead of working. I don't think management in those cases have much of a choice but to concede some of their demands or go broke waiting for the employees to change their minds. If MANAGEMENT has done such a piss-poor job of managing that the workforce decides to walk off the job, that is management's fault. You are very shortsighted if you believe this is the only reason unions strike. Reasons are irrelevant. Name me one US corporation whose incorporation documents give managerial responsibility to the unions and not to the board of directors. And the union's are supposed to listen to the will of there members. The members vote to leave the union and the union still pickets the company. Which now has no connection to the union. If MANAGEMENT has done such a piss-poor job of managing that the workforce decides to walk off the job, that is management's fault. When management has taken cuts and reduced overhead trying to keep a company afloat and the union refuses to make any concessions what can the management do? See my post 2 above yours. Even the workers at the company new the union was being unreasonable, and the company could not survive without consessions so they voted to quit the union. The union still went after the company and effectively put them out of business. You can't be drunk all day if you don't start early!

[reply Yes, they were a cause. They did not force anything to happen. So a company my brother worked for in Detroit. The workers voted to leave the union. So the union started picketing the costumers of said comapny saying they were anti-union. this does not go over to well in Detroit. It effectively caused the company to go out of business as all the customers were finding other vendors to stop being picketed(is that a word??). I would say the union forced the company to do something. It forced them out of business. When it was thier own members that voted to leave the union. I am not sure how true this is but there was an article in Sunday's Orlando Sentinel about a anti-red light camera protest. One of the protesters said the police were issueing tickets for infractions that would not be issued if a police officer were there. Such as stopping with your bumper past the white line and not waiting long enough after stopping to turn red. Again I personally don't know if this is true. Anybody?? I agree I don't really think the end justify's the means but running red lights has become a real problem here. I have even heard people say "when the light turns yellow only 2 more cans care go through" where do people come up with this stuff?? You can't be drunk all day if you don't start early!

What do you do for a living, and do you love/hate it?
Rick replied to npgraphicdesign's topic in The Bonfire
I am a state certified electrical sign contractor. Partners in a commercial sign shop. We make signs, menu's, awnings and some architectural structures. On the other side of the company we do graphics, cars, trucks, boats we even wrapped an airplane and a helicopter. I love my job most of the time. I enjoy taking designs and making them come to life. The part I don't enjoy as much is the actual running of the business as we have grown. It was a lot easier when it was me 1 helper and a truck. check this out to see what we do 1 You can't be drunk all day if you don't start early! -
In Orlando, the person who owns the car is responsible, to pay the fine, but if they cant match the face no points are given. Total BS But wow what a revenue source, from the Orlando Sentinel: City officials acknowledge the cameras make money: Orlando collected about $2.4 million in fines between Sept. 1, 2008, when the cameras were installed, and Oct. 31, 2009, according to a spokeswoman. " What part of "management" is it that really gives you such a hard on time. Probably the part where the "management" tells the striking union workers to get back to work and they laugh in his face. If the manager was worth his or her "compensation package" that wouldn't happen. Don't blame unions for incompetent execs. Unions didn't force GM to make cars no-one wanted. Unions didn't force AIG to make absurd financial decisions. Unions didn't force Moodys to give AAA ratings to junk. Management did that all by itself, and the rest of us are paying the price. And management did not force the companies to pay an electician to stand around all night to plug in and unplug extension cords. Management did not make it near to impossible to fire someone caught stealiing from a company because it was the "first": offense. Management did not make it a requirement to pay someone for 4 hours of overtime when all they needed was an extra 1 hour of work. The unions did this all by themselves. All these things add unecessarily to the overhead and we are all paying the price now. You can't be drunk all day if you don't start early!
