But also keep in mind that if someone finds it very odd that it turned back toward the west and flew over land that it was not picked up by someones radar, whether that be Malaysia or Thailand, that it means they think it couldn't happen or have a lack imagination. Much less that they latched onto some theory they wont let go of. My comments toward you was more asking if you did't find it odd at all that it wasn't picked up, not so much that it couldn't happen. Most Captains and FO's with gobs of experience find it very odd but that does not mean they can not or are not thinking outside the box, whatever box that is. I get the impression that finding it odd to you means someone has a very simplistic approach to this and lack reasoning skills. I mean this as no insult or argument. Just pointing out how some of your posts can be taken. Just because someone engages on one side of a debate does not mean that is the position they have taken or are closed minded to other possibilities if they have. Very true and funny indeed. But when you have seasoned reporters like Andy Pasztor that are extremely respected talking about ACARS transmissions received everyone tends to listen. He is not the kind of guy known to fabricate information and is extremely knowledgeable and respected in the aviation community. He would be the reporter we would want to cover one of our incidents given the choice. Malaysia has contradicted him and said no transmissions received by Boeing or RR after they lost contact but many are skeptical of that yet, putting more faith in this journalist than that. And now the US Navy is sending a ship under maximum power to the Indian ocean where they claim the plane is. Remember the plane was Northeast off of Malaysia when is disappeared. And I almost ribbed Quade for his "halfway to Madagascar" comment thinking he was not aware that it was flying the opposite direction And how would it get back to the Indian Ocean undetected!? Imagine if this plane flew right back over Malaysia without them knowing!? Something they are covering up. US seems pretty confident it ended up West as of the info we have at this second. Crazy. That spot isn't bad at all, the winds were strong and that was the issue! It was just on the downwind side.

Still if the plane flew for an additional 4 hours after last contact as now being reported, with everyone looking for it, it is odd it would not be picked up on someones radar. You have to admit that. That spot isn't bad at all, the winds were strong and that was the issue! It was just on the downwind side.

Andy Pasztor with WSJ has reported that ACARS data has indicated that it stayed in the air for four hours past last known location. This is from engine data sent automatically to Rolls Royce. That spot isn't bad at all, the winds were strong and that was the issue! It was just on the downwind side.

What do you like about canopy flight?
craddock replied to ianyapxw's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
It's everything. But you can't rush into it and you can't use what someone posts on here as a goal. Because some of them are over the top and shouldn't have been done. Some shouldn't be told on here But you can make your own in time. I have some night swoops into silly areas that would be hard to explain unless you have been to the particular DZ. Doing basically a hop and pop on one of those after 10pm from full altitude over SDC. What happened after that still makes me wonder what I was thinking. Convincing a pilot to take a load up with grounds winds that wer... well.. high.(don't recall numbers) Making it into a cross country 21 miles out at only just over 8k AGL per Center as we were getting into restricted airspace. That jump my logbook shows on a 288 but I know the 2 guys I were with took 320ish Man-o-war? We were short so we went up again only 16 miles out as winds slightly settled. Took a Stiletto 107 on that one while they still took the Student gear. Make your own experiences in time as suits you and your skill set allows. No reason to make them radical or testing unless that is your nature and you develop the skill set to go with that. Many will have more fun and thrill not pushing the envelope and I consider them lucky. I am envious. Time will tell what direction you go but just let it happen naturally as you learn and develop as a jumper. And if a canopy is only to get you down safely that is ok also. So long as you can use it to do that proficiently That spot isn't bad at all, the winds were strong and that was the issue! It was just on the downwind side. -
I correct what I said now that I think about it. That time was earlier when I first heard and saw the email from Mike Mackay. It was not until later when Woodruff confirmed it(or when I heard he did) as authentic. The time you were looking for was the first one just wanted to correct the way I worded it That spot isn't bad at all, the winds were strong and that was the issue! It was just on the downwind side.

Does having a gun in the home make you safer?
craddock replied to kallend's topic in Speakers Corner
Chicago's crime rate is suddenly normal because it lowered a little this year? So John Kallend does not find Chicago's crime rate exceptional because he found that it is not the worst in the US. Is Chicago's crime rate normal? Acceptable? What would is need to rise to to be exceptional? That spot isn't bad at all, the winds were strong and that was the issue! Does having a gun in the home make you safer?
craddock replied to kallend's topic in Speakers Corner
Correct. It only counts samples a group of those that are shot in one town including many gang memnbers and Drug dealers, who guess what...were carrying a gun!. And it also counted guns not on the person. In the car, in their house. Most people who carry are never around an assault and most instances of an armed defense are done without ever firing a shot. Many of these go unreported in any study but in the case of this one unless someone is actually shot they never made it in the study. FACT - carrying a gun increases your chance of being shot dead. www.newscientist.com/article/dn17922-carrying-a-gun-increases-risk-of-getting-shot-and-killed.html FACT - every gun owner I know claims to be immune from such problems. Lake Wobegon effect. wth Kallend? Can you try and actually be serious for once? So if your a gangbanger in Philly and you get shot and have a gun on you(which you most likely would if you were a gangbanger), It means that everyone that carries is at a similar risk? And that reminds me of thinking "Those $#@$ were right! They are going to be saying I told you so at the clubhouse sitting around playing cards when they hear about this" But really it was just "Damn it. They were right! I should have listened" as I was approaching 500 AGL trying to save my life with nothing out after violent cutaway and my reserve Pillow not where it should have been as a result of the former. Of course I turned it all around that it was a good thing I didn't have an AAD and we convinced my Fiance it could have killed me firing at the wrong time. Guns in the home are much safer! Maybe so. I will admit it is questionable seeing it might just be a defense and limited other info was released. But....... The same has been said about several things many of us have done. Hell, once the boys from Precision Aerodynamics chewed MY ass when they found out SOMEONE swooped Skydive Chicago's swimming/ retention pond. Anyone that his seen it knows what is on all four sides of it and it's surroundings. Zero outs. And this guy did it at 11 PM with nothing but a bonfire and a couple low wattage tiki lights to guide him in. No much logic in that many said. And then it was ME that got scolded for it weeks later from Chris and Beezy when it was being talked about. But yes, it could be a defense made up. But that heart condition wouldn't stop many of us if that was our passion. Admit that it least. That spot isn't bad at all, the winds were strong and that was the issue! ... Go out in the middle of winter on a snowmobile? Bucket list? Quade would you have just laid in bed all day? I have a feeling there might actually be skydivers that would conceal the condition from a DZ to continue to enjoy their passion in life "get busy living or get busy dying!" Now were going to fault the guy for that? That spot isn't bad at all, the winds were strong and that was the issue! It was just on the downwind side.
-
Now come on.. if he really wanted to shoot something why did a man with a life threatening heart condition keep his weapon holstered while this animal came at him a second time? Not until it made contact did he realize how bad of a situation he put himself into. Yes he really screwed up on this one. Once the hooves made contact after charging he made a decision for him and his son. Clearly this decision is not supported by all but what does it have to do with Black Teenagers? Did I miss something in the news or is this just plain racist? That spot isn't bad at all, the winds were strong and that was the issue! It was just on the downwind side.

Not all of us are as educated on moose as those from Florida and PA. Almost all riders in the midwest would have tried to yell at it to get it to move if it were a deer. I am very glad this was posted so that people can learn. Many many people had no idea that Moose behaved like this. If this would have been a Bear, Deer, Elk, Coyote, Wolf(even a pack) they would have ran off when approached and hollered at. If this guy was a local then yes he should have known better and I take from this that when visiting that we should do a better job of learning the individual traits of the wildlife that we might encounter. Certainly this guy made a potentially fatal mistake when he approached the animal further after the initial contact hoping to scare it off. Almost everyone I ride with in the midwest I have seen do the same. Only not with Moose as we do not have them. What I have a problem with is that once he effed up people think he should have laid down and surrendered(succumbed?) to the animal. It was clearly turning back for another go at it. The reported 51 year old man had Dilated cardiomyopathy which is a very serious heart condition. I do not believe making a run for it in several feet of snow like Windsor said was a feasible solution. From what I have read on hunting sites from those more familiar with Moose say running from sled would not be bright at all. His 15 year old kid was behind him. He couldn't just snap his fingers and undo his mistake. And despite all this I still believe his life was more valuable even though his erroneous behavior put him in the position. I understand others position but I do not believe charges are warranted. Certainly not a lynching or T&F. It is a sad deal but in the end he was about to be under a second attack, was in poor health and had his Son behind him. And had seconds to make a decision to save himself or to pray. I can think of several things I would have done even late in the situation but that's easy to say sitting in front of my computer with a 65 bps heart rate. Once the animal attacked him, he went into survival mode and it was not the time to analyze and contemplate his mistakes that put him there. I have learned a lot on hollering at Moose and how they react vs almost every other animal in North america as a result of this incident. I am glad the video was posted. Heck, If in saves even one life...............(that includes future Moose) But then again I am also glad he survived so I am in the minorithy That spot isn't bad at all, the winds were strong and that was the issue! Just over 1 jalapeno per pound, Cayenne and Crushed red pepper flakes. A good bite but not hot "hot" by some standards. Also some hi temp chedder. And a great smoke flavor chasing the temp up over hours that you just don't get in store bought stuff. Snap. I am just a little bit proud of them. Keep doctoring it with every batch Sounds like a blast with your plane. Be Safe! That spot isn't bad at all, the winds were strong and that was the issue! It was just on the downwind side.

Sounds good GD64. Maybe some of my latest batch of Venison sticks to go with. btw. What puts you in the air to see the kill sights? Work? GA? That spot isn't bad at all, the winds were strong and that was the issue! It was just on the downwind side.

You too. Just a few more comments. He is not actually doing a one handed spray. He is shooting two handed pretty controlled I thought. First shot clearly in the air and yelled again try and scare it. Then four shots that I thought were fairly controlled for the rapid succession. One may find a lot of faults in this indecent but I actually didn't expect one to find them in his gun handling skills. I am sure he would have done different and did not set out to do this. I do not know who it is so that is just as bad of speculation or hope maybe. GD64, I am sure he was wound up and possibly shaking and just wanted out of the woods onto that lake/field to regroup with his buddy. No way of knowing if the walked back and gave it a kill shot. No sense assuming he didn't. Also I see several deer a day here this year with all the snow if I trail ride. Thousands of people in the midwest scare them off just like that. I tend not to and have been at a stare down for what seemed like 30 minutes with a Whitetail that was very stressed, Pawing at the ground and wheezing at me. That can be stressful for the animal as well. I have killed one at full speed and just clipped one last Wed with my ski tip by accident. I had a run in outside of west Yellowstone coming around a corner with a Moose that ran off but scared me as it was a close call. People traveling out west this time of year to sled are not as knowledgeable as you about Moose. He clearly could have handled the first part of it better but there are thousands of people from the Midwest used to whitetail that could easily and innocently have gotten themselves into that same predicament. Once he made the initial mistake of creeping up in it to scare it and it backfired, he was in a serious situation. Lesson learned. I am sure that meat was not wasted. If they didn't go to their cabin across the lake and come back with a rifle and rope to get it then it was eaten by starving wolves or coyotes. Doubtful any meat went to waste with the winter this year and all the starving animals That spot isn't bad at all, the winds were strong and that was the issue! It was just on the downwind side.

Wow, your snowmobile has a Reverse gear? Kewl! What make and model is it? I want one. Most have reverse now days but cant go far or fast without sucking in the snowflap and coming to a hault on a skidoo. No gear though. Motor spins in reverse That spot isn't bad at all, the winds were strong and that was the issue! It was just on the downwind side.

Just so you know Quade......That would be a two person job right there on my sled trying to turn around. It would not be remotely easy as I would be stuck in a second off trail in that snow and I have raced for years and have a far above average skill set. That just is not a very easy place at all to try and turn around with a single track and deep powder if you get off. FYI That spot isn't bad at all, the winds were strong and that was the issue! Any row at Alpine Valley is a great seat. Nice score on those. I don't remember how many there are but not many. Really nice when its pouring rain. I needed an umbrella just to get my beer back to our seats once though That spot isn't bad at all, the winds were strong and that was the issue! It was just on the downwind side.

On best I have to consider a few others. Really hard to do. Buffet gets an honorable mention . Alpine Valley in heavy rain the size of hail. Teens sliding head first down the hill until skidding on the concrete. Teens tying to help others that were basically passing out get in the venue by holding them up on both sides and sneaking them in. Tying to get out after. Had corporate seats under cover after hostpitality food and drinks. Alpine Valley makes everything better. Wonderful venue for any concert. One of the best was a four band night. Had low expectations because I thought it was to hard core for me. Sevendust opened Shinedown didn't play the simple man cover though Buckcherry Korn Never knew I even new a Korn song. I did. They opened and closed the night with cover of "another brick in the wall" The whole night was fantastic. Energy. Volume. That spot isn't bad at all, the winds were strong and that was the issue!
