  1. When your wide awake, don't jump and be stupid either. I learned: 1) that Carolee, all 110 lbs or so, can go over my back and thread thru the middle of the diamond that I'm the tail of. 2) that Matt, all 200lbs or so, can't. Ouch! "Viva la Stinkfist!"
  2. Not bad. But I'm not watching the movie as there was no mention of the gf getting naked with you. 'In an insane society a sane person seems insane.' Mr. Spock
  3. What she said. You can't convince them it's "Safe". You can show them how we make it as safe as possible. If you really want to you can quote statistics that show that percentage wise, more people are seriously injured our killed driving, playing softball, or walking down stairs than are skydiving. You'll find a link on DZ.com somewhere for that. Some people will always be convinced we have a death wish. Allow them their opinion and continue with your life.
  4. There's always going to be the should and shouldn't regulate sides to this issue, as with every other issue. I wanted to bring over a post that Bill posted in the Incidents forum in the thread that initiated this thread. I realize that new BSRs are going to be implemented. We are a self regulating body that should adapt to what we learn as time goes on, and the BSR's are a result of that. Do I agree with all of them? No. Bill's suggestion gives the less experienced a general guide, and should a jumper choose to take a canopy skills class, contributing to the safety of themselves and other jumpers, they are able to get a waiver from the local S+TA who is familair with him/her and their current skill level. Did I ever take a 'canopy skills class'? No. However, at the 1994 WFFC, you were required to have 500 jumps to demo a batwing, at that time one of the latest and greatest. Now people sell batwings to just off student status jumpers. You can't convice me any student course has improved it's canopy skills teaching that much. And as I posted in the other thread I think that the ultimate responsiblity is to the person under the canopy, but I know how common it is for a jumper to over estimate their abilities to handle situations to which they have never been exposed. IMO... Bill's suggestion takes both sides into consideration. I'd be in favor of a BSR phrased in that manner. It'd be a great tool for instructors, jumpers, and the DZO (as mentioned). 5. Great post!! Welcome to the wonderful world of skydiving. Wait'll fall when the leaves are changing. The view is incredible! I love jumping in MI in the fall. Congrats. Blue Skies/Black Death 'In an insane society a sane person seems insane.' Mr. Spock
  6. And you asked her for a pin check? 'In an insane society a sane person seems insane.' Mr. Spock
  7. Actually there are quite a few poor, BASE jumping skydivers around. Doh!! 'In an insane society a sane person seems insane.' Mr. Spock
  8. Time to take it to the S&TA. It constantly amazes me how people will pull stunts like this and then get angry when it's brought to their attention. I have absolutly zero authority at my home dz, but I am also not known to be hesitient to talk to someone landing opposite all other canopies, our carving through the landing area while others are still on approach. The majority of the time they know they screwed up so enough said, let's be more careful in the future. In those rare instances when the jumper in question won't listen, or gets angry. I just tell em "OK, we'll see what the S&TA thinks about it, fair?". Response to that is either 'OK' or "F*&^ you", and then I tallk to the S&TA, and let him decide if he needs to speak with that person. Hopefully this option is available to you.
  9. Ann come's back next week, so maybe we can work one in. That way Korshack won't lose all the time. 'In an insane society a sane person seems insane.' Mr. Spock
  10. Does that include you and Mike? Where in the heck have you guys been? and don't give me that broken ankle stuff, just because you break something doesn't mean mikey can't jump. (out of a plane). Love Ya. BSBD 'In an insane society a sane person seems insane.' Mr. Spock
  11. We've launched many, many raft dives from an otter. We learned our Zero-G lessen (see DiverDriver post) when someone's foot hit the tail as he passed under it. We now launch pretty much by just hauling the thing out the door now. Plenty of pre-dive planning should include exit practice w/ count. Who's in, Who's where on the outside. Don't wrap your hand with the little rope. When & how to bail out. Be Safe. Have Fun. BSBD Larry 'In an insane society a sane person seems insane.' Mr. Spock
  12. No, missed that one. I'll be at the Ballunar Festival jumping into Space Center Houston in August though. It's always a hoot. Specially the Saturday night pool party. 'In an insane society a sane person seems insane.' Mr. Spock
  13. In who's opinion? I used to eat twinkies all the time when I was young. I don't have any health issues because of it. Unless they're still sitting inside my intestine waiting to strike. I can't answer the everclear thing as I've never been able to drink it in moderation. I never said it was. I simply meant to point out that most things consumed in moderation are not necessarily bad for you. And I referenced India because they think cows are incarnations of god or something, and let them walk the streets and crap everywhere, and don't kill em even if they're near death and suffering. I couldn't agree with you more. Also odd views of what "a little" is. "So you want to do a Tandem jump? how much do you weigh?", "Oh... A little over 190 lbs." (read that 250). Ok I'm done. Have a MOST wonderful day. BSBD 'In an insane society a sane person seems insane.' Mr. Spock
  14. Just curious, have any of the people putting pressure on you actually stepped foot onto a Drop Zone? I find that when people bring their family and friends to the DZ to actually see what goes on, the precautions taken, the training, etc... it tends to ease their fears about the sport. Some people will never be convinced. I have a friend who USED to skydive who's wife (then fiancee) told me "thousands of people needlessly die each year from skydiving". WTF? she had no facts to base this on, just her opinion which I imagine she holds to this day. My parents didn't stop freaking out till after I showed them all the preperations and planning that went into a skydive. And explained about the gear, main & reserve etc... They still don't really understand, (how could they? they don't jump.), but they accept that it's something I do. And while your friend wound up making a mistake and getting hurt, (glad he's ok), he could have done the same thing in an automobile, on a motorcycle, playing baseball, walking down the street, etc... Let them know it's something your going to be doing and they can choose to learn a bit more about it, or not. Have Fun, Be Safe. BSBD Larry 'In an insane society a sane person seems insane.' 15. salmonella: an aerobic rod-shaped usually motile bacteria that causes food poisoning, gastrointestinal inflammation, or diseases of the genital tract. You mean like India? That statement always cracks me up. How would that make the world a better place? Now it might make the ride to altitude better for some. That's exacly like me saying "You know, if people decreased their chicken consumption, the world would be a much better place!". Eat what you want, in moderation. Except Veal, now that, IMO, we could do without. BSBD Larry 'In an insane society a sane person seems insane.' Mr. Spock
  16. I wanted to call it Skydivers Between Jobs but I didn't like the acronym.
  17. Then you need to change your avatar. I couldn't resist either. 'In an insane society a sane person seems insane.' Mr. Spock
  18. Congrats Dave !! "got rating to get first time thrill" ???? You just like the idea of strapping hotties to you and having them to yourself for 45 seconds or so. With video. The guys are just a necessary evil. BSBD Larry 'In an insane society a sane person seems insane.' Mr. Spock
  19. Ding! we have a winner. 'In an insane society a sane person seems insane.' Mr. Spock
  20. I don't think it's ALL of them, but I do know that a whole lot of hotties jump in Texas. Just pick a DZ. "I Love this Shit".
  21. I've been in IT since high school, (20+ years), and a programmer for 15 or so of those years. The only time I've felt no longer adequate is after I read all this stuff. I've nothing to add.... Except for maybe... "SHUT UP AND JUMP!". A great weekend to all. 'In an insane society a sane person seems insane.' Mr. Spock
  22. Arrrrrrgh! I used to use this all the time and at that time knew where it came from. Tales from the Crypt? 'In an insane society a sane person seems insane.' Mr. Spock
  23. OK.... you don't get out much either. 'In an insane society a sane person seems insane.' Mr. Spock
  24. I just got the email earlier myself. Still don't know what happened. Craig has been around the DZ on and off for years. Working mainifest, fixing things, being ground crew. He had made a few skydives but never really had the bucks to make it a constant thing. Years ago when I was new and flying my 220, I'd get on the plane, and Craig would get in the truck to come pick me up.
  25. HOT DAMN! Whoops sorry, I don't get out much lately. BSBD 'In an insane society a sane person seems insane.' Mr. Spock
