  1. Great cartoons as always. Makes me wish to go back jumping again. Damn you Canadian winter
  2. I remember in one of my AFF jumps, I was on the floor of the Caravan and someone in the hop'n'pop opened the door for air conditioning from 2,000 feet... Scary scary stuff lol
  3. I'm new too and got the chance to drive for 10 hrs last week (and listened to about 8-9 hrs of skydive radio). I'd say its 70% useful in the sense its informative and you feel more part of the skydiving community. 30% makes you go "what the hell are they talking about?" It took me some time before understanding what CReW was. Definitely listen with the one with Bill Booth. Loved it. And it re-assures me about the safety with skydiving (taught me a lot about skyhook, tandems, etc...) It can be sometimes boring though, but I still love it. Its great when you're craving for something skydiving related. Hope it helps. Cheers!

    Music?

I think music can be helpful in relaxing. I definitely think it can help me relax; hopefully it doesn't carry any real physical risks? One of the things I still can't get out of my head is "WHAT IF THIS" "WHAT IF THAT". Head just talks about "what ifs" too many times without shutting up. Music can be helpful imo.
  5. Why don't you try going in the wind tunnels before going AFF level 1? It will help you develop your muscle-memory and find that "ah-ha I'm stable in the air" feeling. I passed AFF level 1 pretty well (my 2 instructors let me go at one point leaving me "alone") and it was most definitely because of the wind tunnels. Cheers and good luck! Edit: oops. looks like wind tunnel was already mentioned haha.
  6. Any updates on the wind turbines? Have they found an alternate area?
  7. I'm pretty sure most Canadian DZs allow tandems if they are at least 16 or older. I've seen a few them on my DZs (birthday gifts).

  9. Unfortunately, I don't have that much cash. At age 21, I'm kind of having to pay school tuition by myself while wanting to pursue skydiving. Not the cheapest of hobbies, but worth it nonetheless.
  10. Hello, Couldn't find anything in the search, but what would be good rigs for newbies? I'm not into swooping and I would be more into gears that are safe (easy for me to learn packing and most importantly, not prone to line twists). The skydiving season is over until April, but I wouldn't mind starting to look at the classifieds. ...Guess I want to learn more about them/how to look for them (e.g: what to look for, what designs/brands, etc...) I've only flown with student canopies so far (Navigator and Silhouette 210)... I'm about 150 pounds/5' 10. Thanks lots!
  11. Definitely go do some tunnel time before doing it for real. 1) It will help you arch and have a solid muscle memory with your legs/arms when it comes time to the actual jump 2) You have less chance of screwing up the AFF level 1 (don't need to piss off 300$ just to re-doing it). 3) Less chance of having a sensory overload. When you jump for real, everything is overwhelming. Some people forget to pull their chute because they are so overwhelmed. Tunnel time will help control it. You'l have moments of "oh I recognize this sensation before!" Personally, I would do it a little before AFF level 1 Cheers!
  12. Wait until you start doing solo; you'l get the nervousness again I always felt planes used for skydiving were kind of wonkish and slightly-dilapidated; some with a load of duck-tape. All the more reason to jump out!
  13. Thanks for the video. Helps to see the "first person" perspective.

    PAC vs AFF

http://www.paradrenaline.ca/ My personal favorite DZ near Montreal. 35 minutes of car. I think one of the only Montreal DZ without a fatality. Winter... Tunnel Tunnel Tunnel
  15. The nervousness on the plane up is kind of annoying, but the jump itself is facking crack! Can't wait for next season.
  16. Nice! Didn't know Jeb posted on dropzone. Thanks for the inspiration!
  17. Sit flying? I don't think there's sit flying in AFF (at least I haven't done any). The thing that I find scary about flips is to watch your instructor doing it in front of you. Its kind of like a "oh shi.. I'm supposed to do THAT?" Once you do it though, its like "oh, it wasn't so bad". I prefer barrel rolls when wanting something more conservative. Gl! Make more cartoons please. Its level 7 then 2 (completely) solo dives then emergency 5,000 feet exit then exam dive right? ...ohh and the absolute best moment in AFF imo is when you finish the the 2 solo dives.
  18. Definite 5 stars for Parachutisme Adrenaline. Really helpful and enjoyable people. Definite recommend for anyone looking for a tandem or AFF. Two particular staff I would like to thank: Jean-Nic, very likeable, has a good balance as a coach between the tough coach "you screwed up, you need to improve this now!" and the nice coach "Good job in your jump! Here's a free pizza". Etienne, somewhat melo. Maybe a bit too melo. Great staff. Helped me in the tunnels, makes skydiving seem like the most natural thing. 5 stars in everything.
  19. HAHA. Just read the first part. I love them!! Edit 2: " I reached back again.... ...where was it? The instructor nudged my hand in place. I missed it completely on the third try Oh no! I'd blown it. Now what? Should I try again? No! Time's running out. Next task!'' LOLL. My thoughts exactly when I missed it too. It was kind of like ''ah shit am I supposed to do it again
  20. LOL @ "winter is coming". Definitely had that in my mind this year sooo many times. I'm new too. 11 jumps (passed the solo license). This has been already said, but don't be too discouraged. The best practical advice is really to go to the tunnels. I exit really badly, but I recover pretty well (been stable since jump 5), and I really have to attribute it the continuous times that I went to the tunnels. The tunnels help you with muscle memory where you don't have to think and it just becomes automatic. I did tunneling before going AFF. It took me about the 30-35th minute to FINALLY "get it". Before that, it was just so discouraging. I saw people who "got it" on their first try. Here I was, pissing off money and time just to go in a tunnel flying unstable and constantly getting caught by the coach/instructor. Had so many times where I wanted to give up because it just stopped being fun. But then... I had that "ah-ha. I got it!" moment. When you do get your "ah-ha!" moment too, the bad memories just become part of the past...
