Locomotives have an Alerter system. The engineer (driver) must make throttle/braking changes or hit a reset button during a set time frame or the locomotive will automatically apply a Penalty brake. Once the Penalty braking sequence has started, the train comes to a full stop and then a timer resets before the train can be started again. I intend to live forever -- so far, so good.

Technology to control train speed is coming, but it takes time. The government has mandated that railroads install a system called PTC. However, it is not as simple as installing a box on a locomotive. There is also trackside equipment that must be installed and central office equipment. Major railroads have close to 10,000 locomotives, and the majority of those will need to be retrofitted with expensive equipment, all to be paid for by the railroads themselves. GE has a new product called Trip Optimizer which is an electronic interface to the locomotive which has a database of the track profile, speed restrictions, train length and tonnage which acts as cruise control on steroids for the train and will stop the train if it violates the speed limits. However, TO does not know what the signals along the track are displaying, so the engineer must still take be in control of the train. PTC will interface with the signal system. "My route to DC would be I-70 to St. Louis, then cut across I-64 to Charlottesville, VA, then pick up I-81N to Strasburg, VA, then I-66 into DC. That way you avoid the shitty PA turnpike. " I traveled extensively before retiring and I would agree with this route. Check the road conditions before leaving Colorado though. I intend to live forever -- so far, so good.

1963 - Sophomore in High School. Sitting in study hall when they announced it over the PA. Went to next class and our English teacher was just shaking her head in tears saying, "People, people, people..." Was awhile before she could really say more. 1986 - working and didn't hear about it until I got home. 9/11 - working from home and came in to the living room. Daughter told me an airplane had hit one of the towers. Saw the second plane. Glued to the tv for several hours. I intend to live forever -- so far, so good.

President Obama says he’s sorry for Americans losing insurance plans

He is sorry people are losing their insurance, but he hasn't specifically said he is sorry he lied. I intend to live forever -- so far, so good. -
Pope Denounces Buchanan and Palin for Questioning his Agenda
seedy replied to Darius11's topic in Speakers Corner
Ummm. No. The first Christians were Jewish. yes, so was Jesus. your missing my point. The Roman Catholic Church was the first Christian church. they invented the whole idea of calling yourself a Christian Church. "Acts 11:26 and when he found him, he brought him to Antioch. So for a whole year Barnabas and Saul met with the church and taught great numbers of people. The disciples were called Christians first at Antioch" You probably ought to read the Bible before you make such claims. I intend to live forever -- so far, so good. -
so now that the government can mandate that we buy something . . .

Big difference in "if" you buy and you "must" buy..... I intend to live forever -- so far, so good. -

Air soft guns have the orange tip, pellet guns don't. At least in this part of the country. My grandkids have both. I intend to live forever -- so far, so good.

OK National Parks are now open... so go destroy some property
seedy replied to OHCHUTE's topic in Speakers Corner
I agree with your assessment of the perps, but you do realize this was a State Park, not a National Park and was not closed because of the shutdown? I intend to live forever -- so far, so good. -
I hope they stick to their guns and do the job that we elected them to do. They stuck to their guns all-right! Boehner tacked-on a rider for a dam project in his home state of Ohio that was approved in 1988 for millions of dollars and nothing was done. Now, that same project will cost billions. All those politicians did was work-out a way to win mid-term elections. Chuck How did Boehner tack it on? The article I read said it came from the Senate that way and Feinstein claimed responsibility for it. I intend to live forever -- so far, so good.

We had and application where we installed the tags between the rails on a railroad and the locomotive would read them when it passed over them. We used off the shelf turkey roasting pans turned upside down to block them during our testing phases. I intend to live forever -- so far, so good.

So since she was unarmed (except for the car), the citizen that was shot had to have been shot by the police. Is that correct? I intend to live forever -- so far, so good.

Many years ago I was the car behind the car that was the 'brake and bump' victim. I stopped behind him and stayed until the police arrived to give them my name and statement. The motorcycle rider was doing everything he could to get me to leave before the police arrived. He later tried to sue the old man and I was called to give a deposition by the old man's attorney. Biker lost the case. I intend to live forever -- so far, so good.

How many of those jobs that were added survived the bankruptcies (Solyndra, etc)? And refer to my previous post about the support jobs when coal plants close or cut way back. I intend to live forever -- so far, so good.

So it constitutes bad news for some, as well. It is understood that there are winners and losers. The issue becomes whether these people's bitterness can be seen as somewhat reasonable. Good news for the environment can and often does mean bad news for others. Not saying that's bad or good but it is what it is. Not just coal mine workers, but the workers who make the mining equipment, the transportation workers, the workers who make the transportation equipment and all the workers employed in the support industries for the above workers (housing, food, etc.). I intend to live forever -- so far, so good.

I have been wondering the same thing. Too many people confuse the term support with unconditional love or tough love. I can love my children unconditionally but don't have to support their actions or decisions if I think they are on the wrong track. I intend to live forever -- so far, so good.

By your logic, your posts need to be removed. I realize the constitution gives you the right to free speech but it must also give me the right from your free speech. I intend to live forever -- so far, so good.

How long before you considered yourself a nom-smoker?
seedy replied to Nataly's topic in The Bonfire
I totally agree with this. I became a non-smoker in November of 1983 and immediately considered myself such. I can honestly say from the moment I laid the last pack down (almost full) I have never desired another cigarette. I was a two pack a day smoker at the time. Ahmadinejad under fire for hugging Chavez's mother
seedy replied to ryoder's topic in Speakers Corner
I think it's more like: Reps: I don't care if the car is on fire, I'm driving till it won't go anymore. Dems: Look at that car on fire....we need to pass a law against that and put a tax on the flames. I intend to live forever -- so far, so good. -
