  1. You were just scared of jumping with me... I understand :P Hm. Is Jet A more or less expensive than regular avgas? We only run piston-powered aircraft at my DZ. cavete terrae.
  2. When we lived in Florida, when I was like 5 years old, my father stepped on a fire ant nest in our back yard and got bitten several times. Not being a calm, rational person when he's mad, he poured petrol down the hole after a neighbour told him to 'use gas on them', which as the neighbour worded it did not involve introducing fire to the equation. Dad decided that if petrol was good, burning petrol was better. He overdid it a bit, and one of my earliest memories is that of our back yard on fire, watching from the living room, and asking mom why daddy was running around yelling with the grass on fire. cavete terrae.
  3. How about the people that built a city below sea level, next to a lake, in an area known for tropical storms and hurricanes? How about the people that chose to live there? cavete terrae.
  4. Don't do this. If you're close enough to benefit, you're close enough so if the driver of the front vehicle brakes, you will hit him. One of my biggest pet peeves are tailgaters. I'll be in the right lane on the interestate doing 80, and someone will be be right on my bumper in a big SUV, instead of just passing me like a sane person. If I hit my brakes for some reason, there's no way in hell their 6,000lb bimbo box with 'all season' rubber is going to stop fast enough to not rear end my 2,900lb sedan with upgraded brakes and high-grip tyres. It's happened before, it'll happen again. cavete terrae.
  5. I've never had alcohol, tobacco, or any other non-medical-use drug, unless you count caffeine. I don't take anything stronger than tylenol or ibuprofen 99% of the time. I used vicodin once after a surgery, didn't like the effect, used extra strength tylenol. cavete terrae.
  6. Freaks UNITE! It's easier for you to find a rig to buy, I bet :) The only person in my study with the same upper body length (44") as me was 6'8" I wonder what TallGuy's ratio is... I should have gotten you that a long time ago. Sorry. For what it's worth I'm only just now ordering my new rig. Bonnie at Gravity Gear has the measurements and is selling my container and reserve in the used section of her website if you are still interested. Sorry for the delay but for what it's worth I am only just now ordering my new rig. Good luck in your hunt. No worries :) I actually decided to buy new, so hopefully another tall person can get a good rig :) cavete terrae.
  7. Bonnie rocks! Yeah, I like the idea of a wish list, it'd sure make things easier. cavete terrae.
  8. That's WAY too good of an idea to ever see implemented. Man, you -must- be new! Gravity Gear has gift certificates, I know that much! cavete terrae.
  9. I've gotta play two college soccer games on Saturday, and one on Sunday. If I can even walk on Monday, I'll hopefully do some jumping, but I think everyone from my DZ will be at Couch Freaks, since it's only 3 hours away cavete terrae.
  10. not for air-to-air lightning... but i think you'd have to be jumping in a thunderstorm to get struck. Remember, kids... punching clouds might not just piss off the FAA... the clouds might punch back! cavete terrae.
  11. You fockers better be having fun for me. I was hoping my rig would be here in time, but it's moot because of work and soccer anyway cavete terrae.
  12. Yeah, I'm a weird guy. I'm busy all day with school and soccer, but when I'm done with practices and stuff at night... watch out! cavete terrae.
  13. Keep looking around, it'll be easier than you think, especially with fall/winter coming up. I had a similar problem, but more extreme. I'm 6'3", but fairly well built (220lbs)... and I have a long torso. I have a 31" inseam, which means I effectively had to look for people selling rigs for someone 6'6" or more. THAT was such a retarded situation I gave up and ordered new, but I remember seeing a lot of gear for the 6'3" or so crowd, the caveat is that the canopies were typically F-111, which I didn't wanna deal with. You might be able to convince someone to sell without the canopy, or just resell it and put in a ZP canopy. cavete terrae.
  14. Let's say a midget/little person/dwarf/whatever term they prefer wants to skydive, and has a tonne of money. Let's say this person is, oh, 65lbs, and has a harness and container built for him, fitted for a 90sqft main and 120sqft reserve. This person decides he wants a Velocity 90 or something equally extreme for you or I. This would be around a 1:1 wingload, but on an extreme canopy. How do you think it'd go? cavete terrae.
  15. woohoo, I got the first download :) cavete terrae.
  16. Ya know, I never even thought of that, which is odd, since I don't drink alcohol. Whatever, as long as I get free soda :) cavete terrae.
  17. I'm rather curious to see what these jumps are going to do to the SUV crowd. I'm sure it'll be amusing. I personally cannot whinge about gas prices, seeing as I put performance before economy. cavete terrae.

I haven't got my copy of September yet, either.. I wonder if I'm in it for getting my licence? Anyone wanna tell me? :) I don't have September yet. I got my actual license number in early April and wasn't in Parachutist till... June, I think (maybe July). I got my number at the very beginning of July, so I'm hoping I'm in this issue. It'd be cool to get my first rig, first time in parachutist, and b licence all in the same month cavete terrae.

  21. http://spiceweasel.net/hugemanatee.jpg For those of you who don't get it... go read a history book! cavete terrae.
  22. I'm actually the 'favourite grandkid' out of... uh... a total of eight. I was out of favour for a short time after an arrest, but they got over it, since I learned from my mistake (145 in a 55mph zone, don't ask). They don't dig the jumping, but c'est la vie. cavete terrae.

    "Open Water"

It's mostly based on what happened to the Longergans, a couple from America (teachers, I think) visiting the Great Barrier Reef. As I was living in Sydney at the time, it was biiiiig news down there. EDIT: And yeah, the girl in the film is gorgeous. Just my type cavete terrae.
