Questionnaire 4 Skydiverz!
KollegeKay replied to KollegeKay's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I have not used do0d5p34k in the survey itself, just on the forum where it is an accepted form of communication and in no way reflects my intelligence level. Forums are for informal communication, just like facebook. :-) Everyone has their own perspective, I hope that clarifies my perspective. The assignment is not to be taken too seriously either, it is seeking out personal experiences and stories to share. The questionnaire is non-probability, volunteer based survey = cannot be used for statistic purposes, nor was it ever intended for such use. ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ---Kollege Kay--,--'-@ Newbie Skydiver -

Questionnaire 4 Skydiverz!
KollegeKay replied to KollegeKay's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Greetings Everyone! Ok, the quick version: I have a survey that I need skydivers to fill out - it is volunteer based (non-probability survey). http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/Z99ZDSS (more information provided on the actual questionnaire). The longer version: Ever since my first skydive, skydiving has really become a part of my life. So much so, that even my professors know it! I have 3 assignments with the topic of skydiving. Two of this assignments are feature articles for a newspaper in Jefferson County, WI. I am here today asking for participates - any and ALL help would be greatly appreciate!!! Like I stated above, there is more information at on the questionnaire site, even a point of contact (offsite of here). P.S. I was just licensed last weekend! (YAY) Mailing out my form now for my A-license card!!! *So excited!* ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ---Kollege Kay--,--'-@ Newbie Skydiver -
Total Newb Q: Landing Angles
KollegeKay replied to KollegeKay's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
This past weekend I had my coach draw it out and told him straight out, I don't get the angles that my instructor had emphasized, however, I understood that low winds means longer final etc. I always understood how I would come in on the final, but to actually make it match an angle is where it confuses me. (I struggle in little-to-no wind) My coach gave me a different way to look at it instead of thinking angles, he said look to the horizon and look for the spot that is consistent, not the tree line that moves up as you come down. That has helped. Overall, I have good timing with flare, but in low winds it is bring it all the way down on time to stay on my feet. Another instructor had said try bringing it down in front of me (like I would do for a PLF). I had an awesome landing this weekend after working through it with my coach and performing the picnic table exercise. Picnic table exercise: Practice walking over the table while keeping my eyes on the horizon (repeat until comfortable to move on)... then repeat, but add concentrating on breathing (in and out)... then repeat, but add listening to the traffic from the highway... then repeat, but add clapping your hands ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ---Kollege Kay--,--'-@ Newbie Skydiver -

Total Newb Q: Landing Angles
KollegeKay replied to KollegeKay's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I feel like I have asked for an explanation too many times because it is like they speak a foreign language to me about ANGLES. I get that low wing will have a longer final leg, I say that to my main instructor, but after I land, he always asks, "What angle did you come in at? Work on your angle." ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ---Kollege Kay--,--'-@ Newbie Skydiver -
Total Newb Q: Landing Angles
KollegeKay replied to KollegeKay's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Well, I only ask because my instructor keeps emphasizing the angle I should come in at. In my head I'm going, "what angles, I don't get it." Before I go up, I have to explain my landing pattern anyways, I always just say if it will be a longer final leg or a short one based on the wind. Even if I land on my feet and in the landing area, the one instructor/examiner asks me, "what angle were you suppose to come in at? Work on that." ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ---Kollege Kay--,--'-@ Newbie Skydiver -
Total Newb Q: Landing Angles
KollegeKay replied to KollegeKay's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Greetings! So I get confused when it comes to the angles and landing. Could someone please explain it to me... Is the angle from me in the air down to the ground, or the angle from the ground up to me??? More importantly, is there an easy way to remember this? The easy one to remember is medium wind is 45 degrees, but how do you really use angles to land? *confused* ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ---Kollege Kay--,--'-@ Newbie Skydiver -
I was wondering if there was a practice version of an exam out there to get a better idea of the format. I know the SIM does bullet points of what the student needs to know in order to pass, and that some centers only do verbal. The center I am going through the AFF program with does a written exam, but then they thoroughly go through each question and have you explain your answer afterward. (My buddy is already licensed, that's how I found out it wasn't multiple choice). Thanks. ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ---Kollege Kay--,--'-@ Newbie Skydiver

For the AFF program I am in, level 9 is when you do the back loops in the air, not front flips. I still have been looking through websites for instruction on the front flips because I think it would be fun to do. Here is what I found: http://www.ehow.com/video_2362205_do-front-flips-skydiving-flying.html ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ---Kollege Kay--,--'-@ Newbie Skydiver

Since my level 4 deployment, I have had this problem. I was fine for the first couple jumps, but I am wondering if that was because two instructors were holding onto me making it seem way easier then it is. With level 4, I was told I over-arch. In level 5 I was told that my mistake is twisting my hips, which makes one of my knees dip and dominants my turns over trying to use my arms/shoulders. My instructor also said that I try to compensate for the potato chipping by kicking my legs, which perpetuates the motion. My instructor also told me it is easier for females to arch and that I shouldn't focus too much on the arching, but to focus on being relaxed! Generally I shake out my hands out and take a deep breath to relax, it helps until I try to focus on the task for the jump. I know I will get this, even if it takes me twice as long as the program suggests for progression. ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ---Kollege Kay--,--'-@ Newbie Skydiver

I feel the same way now when the door opens! I can't say it was always like that, because the first time the door opened, I was screaming in my head "WHY AM I DOING THIS!" lol Congratulations on your A license!!! ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ---Kollege Kay--,--'-@ Newbie Skydiver

This is exactly what I have been doing for the past month, actually. I pack slow still because I want to make sure it is right. I only have someone look over my shoulder until I am checked off, which they say I'm ready for. People have already been jumping with the chutes I packed, including my buddy who is doing the AFF with me! He thanked me on the ground for a nice pack job! (It really made me feel good... and he packed mine too!) I have a good eye for detail and have pointed out a few things to the master rigger.

Thanks for the advice! I guess I'm just eager to do more, especially since my skydiving buddy (also going through AFF with me) was already asking about it to the videographer at the DZ. I've already been working with the video editing, but prioritize the packing over that. This Sunday I will be checked off for packing both a student rig (for my A license) and a tandem rig (to start getting paid). I'm going to use that toward jumps.

Greetings All! I'm a newbie to skydiving who have fallen in love with the sky! As my profile says, I currently only have 6 jumps under my belt! I know it is way too early for me to work as a video-grapher for a skydiving school, but I was wondering if people could give me some tips. I would like to know where I would shop for the equipment (for when the time comes) and what to look for. Should I choose a helmet cam, or a wrist cam that also takes stills??? All advice/comments are welcome! I'm very ambitious about skydiving and skydiving-related things. I would like to become a video-grapher to help me gain experience with jumping without putting a huge dent in my wallet! As a full-time student, I'm trying to find creative ways to reach my skydiving goals. Thanks for your time.
