  1. Thanks! PLF landings are still my norm, but once in awhile a stand up sneaks in. My blog with the skydiving duck cartoons.
  2. New Post: Skydiving Duck: Far to Go Sorry I've been running behind on the blog- I'm unusually busy with work and don't have the time I normally do. I've actually done several jumps since my last post (but no "A" yet)- and I'm lucky that I've had the chance to do them. My blog with the skydiving duck cartoons.
  3. Here's a cartoon I made awhile back about songs I disliked. "Seasons in the Sun" and "Afternoon Delight" made the cut.... People old enough to remember 45s, LPs and 8 tracks may appreciate it. BTW, I actually like the songs in the first panel. The idea was that things started out good and went bad... My blog with the skydiving duck cartoons.
  4. Two of the dopiest songs ever. 4. Sometimes When we Touch--- Dan Hill AAAAAAaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrg! I hate that song. Some other annoying songs: Undercover Angel, The Night Chicago Died, MacArthur Park, Wildfire... My blog with the skydiving duck cartoons.
  5. and the operator said 40c more for the next 3 minutes PLEEEASSSEEE Mrs Avery I just wanna talk to her....... True story: Several years ago I heard a reference to "Sylvia's Mother" as one of those unexplainable former hits that even the oldies stations don't play. I thought, "Sylvia's Mother?" I don't remember that song..." so I googled it, found it, and had a listen. It was like finding a long lost moldy sandwich in the fridge. "Oh yeah... ...that song. " My blog with the skydiving duck cartoons.
  6. The latter. Not really. I didn't mind doing a by-the-rules version of the story, especially since I still probably would have been scared on the way up (backflip or not). So much of my AFF struggle was being scared silly, so it's still a foreshadowing of jumps to come. Thanks. I actually have more cartoons pending, but I've been working a lot of overtime and haven't been able to crank them out as quickly as I'd like. I totally understand this!
  7. I'm sure there's lots of potential skydivers out there who are missing out because they think it's strictly a sport for crazy/adrenaline-junkie/show off/daredevil types. Not so! I'm the complete opposite. I'm one of the most reserved and cautious* people I know. I have the fear threshold of Scooby Doo. Yet I ended up giving it a try and, 25 or so jumps later, think it's pretty amazing. Maybe some other non skydivers will see my early cartoons and think, "Well, if the duck can do it, maybe I could..." *Actually the "cautious" detail may come in handy, when it comes to checking equipment, altitude etc... I realize that this doesn't make me bulletproof, but it may come in handy. p.s. I'm still waiting for my March issue. How many of you have yours? My blog with the skydiving duck cartoons.
  8. Check back with me in another 5 jumps or so. Good one! Aw, shucks. Thanks! Good point. I know I like to read about the noobs and inbetweeners as well as the big shots. My blog with the skydiving duck cartoons.
  9. Thanks, Abedy, NWFlyer, The_Don, nolan358, JohnRich, shah269, MikeJD, and airathanas! I still haven't got my copy of the March issue, but I've seen a mock up of the layout and it's more or less based on the two posts I did about my second tandem (with a few changes). Part of me feels a little guilty for showing up in the magazine. So many of the articles are about experienced and talented people- some of them setting records and winning competitions, and I show up with "Look! I did a tandem!" I feel like a party crasher. My hope is that some readers will react with "Ha! That was me back when I started out!" My blog with the skydiving duck cartoons.
  10. Maybe it's time to broaden the definition. If a non-skydiver is a Wuffo, a non skydiver who's snotty about it is a What-the-F**cker. My blog with the skydiving duck cartoons.
  11. Yes. I'm still working on cartoons for the blog version. I'm running a bit behind because I'm busier than usual at work this month- overtime at work plus trying to fit skydives in when I get a day off so I don't get rusty. Thanks to everyone for their enthusiasm and kind words. I really appreciate it! My blog with the skydiving duck cartoons.
  12. Thanks guineapiggie101, spage, nolan358 and Squeak! I already brought the beer, but I don't think most people have gotten the March issue yet (I usually don't get mine til the 1st which will be Thursday), so I'm saving the goods for my next visit. I promise to stay out of it in the meantime. My blog with the skydiving duck cartoons.
  13. Thanks, bclark, BobMoore, jcemanl LisaH, airtwardo and skymama! My folks knew about it, and I think a skydiving acquaintance or two knew it "might" be published "somewhere." Mostly I kept my mouth shut, just in case. Also I didn't want to be a show off. I may be a skydiver, but I'm a new skydiver who has a long way to go. (Heck, I know some A licensed students who started AFF a few months ago and I started back in July!*) No sense getting cocky.
  14. How'd you find out? Did you get your issue already? I kept my mouth shut in case things fell through (pardon the pun). Thanks for noticing! Also thanks to d_squared431, oldwomanc6 and Trafficdiver! My blog with the skydiving duck cartoons.

    Drama!

I know that type. They can be strangely charming. But as you said, beware! People are toys to them. My blog with the skydiving duck cartoons.
  16. Looks to me like they're throwing a few extra monkeys into the Barrel of What Possibly Could Go Wrong... My blog with the skydiving duck cartoons.
  17. And it wasn't that long ago where even videos of people in the doorway triggered a fear response. The link gave me a "this is restricted in your country because of possible copyright violations" (I'm sure bootleg ALF videos are a hot seller on the black market. But I was able to find it here. That is a good workaround.
  18. Is there an official skydiving slang for the almost-to-altitude I shouldn't be doing this thoughts? "The 9k nay say?" or something? My blog with the skydiving duck cartoons.
  19. I can see how this would happen. Even skipping my student jumps for a week or two makes me more nervous. I'd have a tough time waiting half a year and returning. Exactly. Between 9000-12500 feet I'm thinking Why am I doing this? but once in freefall I'm thinking Oh yeah, that's why I'm doing this! My blog with the skydiving duck cartoons.
  20. Good point. I'd hate to reach the point where I was so calm that I got careless. That would be an accident (or worse) waiting to happen. That's awesome! My blog with the skydiving duck cartoons.
  21. My instructor told me something similar. I'll be trying it out today (if the weather cooperates!) Glad to hear this. While the low exit was something I did to get it out of the way, it's something I should learn to get comfortable with as well. Thanks! I sure like it. And what a view! I'm looking forward to that day. I wonder how many jumps it will take? It doesn't scare me out of my mind anymore, but when I'm slipping my goggles and helmet on part of me thinks What am I doing!? My blog with the skydiving duck cartoons.
  22. Yep. You've been officially duck-a-fied! My blog with the skydiving duck cartoons.
  23. If it makes you feel any better, that sounds like something that I might do. Note to self- don't hurt the door. My blog with the skydiving duck cartoons.
  24. I wouldn't call you stout. And you're 5 inches taller than Tiny Broadwick was!
