You'll have to wait for the next Edition May we live long and die out

AT&T sold most of those off long ago and most if not all of the clamshells are inactive. There are even some of the old AT&T towers with Nuclear bombshelters underneath them. You just have to know where to look

When it comes to BASEpackers, Yuri is the man. Gets his girls to pack and drive for him. And good looking hot ones at that

Just to clairfy, about above post that I wrote. I am using the Reserve slinks, not the normal smaller ones. May we live long and die out

The Eastern NC crew has to jump in the daytime or else they fly into wires and things. A proper ice shield photo: Western NC style May we live long and die out

I've got 4 sets of slinks on 4 different rigs. 2 of the sets each have over 400 jumps between them. while the the other 2 only have about 50 or so. I don't have any bumpers on them, and have never have the slider come down past them on the riser. A loaded type 8 riser is stiff enough under load to stop them from doing that. About 200 of those jumps were at terminal velocity with no isssues. My original set has outlasted a set of lines and risers and still looks brand new. They are far stronger than metal links and once installed, they are virtually maintainence free. I've seen a slider bumper come off a metal link and slide up the lines, where it choked of the slider and resulted in a reserve ride. Luckly it was in a skydiving enviorment. No worries with that with slinks. Once less link in the death chain. I also tie my slider down for low stuff, since it's faster, less chance of a rigging errors and offers the safety net of having a crosslink should one riser release. It's a great KISS system, and I won't ever go back to metal links and bumpers and wrenches and quarter turns and all that crap May we live long and die out

I'm not sure about full strength, but I'd bet that a soft link is stronger than a crossloaded rapide link for sure. And cross loading doesn't really appear to be an issue with soft links. Not that I've seen a lot of crossloaded links in BASE, but what's the old saying about planning for the worst? From PD's Website: "In our tests, the Performance Design's Slink© survived at loadings beyond the suspension lines and/or riser! In our testing, the failure point of the system was repeatedly the suspension lines or the webbing attaching the three rings to the riser. In comparison tests, the PD reserve soft link survived tests that caused failures and/or severe damage to #4 and #5 stainless steel links! The PD Soft links not only survived these tests, but showed no signs of damage. " May we live long and die out

I've used CR's/Asylums risers exclusively for over 570 jumps and have never had a hangup or early release. So far so good May we live long and die out

If you're calling people to let them know are jumping then it ISN'T a TRUE Solo. May we live long and die out

Actually this whole discussion is pointless. Cats don't need PC's to survive long freefalls: If cats fall a larger distance such as two or more floors, even though they can right themselves, their legs and feet can no longer absorb all of the shock. Their heads may hit the ground and they often bruise their chin and may fracture some teeth. Falls of four or more floors cause the cat to hit the ground at maximum velocity and thus acquire a multitude of injuries including a ruptured diaphragm, torn liver, and fractured bones. Interestingly, two veterinarians did a study (examining 132 cases of cats that had fallen out of high-rise windows) and found that in falls of seven stories or less, the chance of survival was indeed greater with the shorter distances. However, with falls greater than seven stories, the number of injuries actually declined when compared to falls at seven stories. So, beyond seven stories, the farther the fall, the better the chance of survival! They found that the reason for this was that after five stories or so, cats reach terminal velocity. The velocity or speed of a falling body does not increase forever because the rate of increase in speed is interrupted by air resistance. A skydiver reaches a terminal velocity of around 130 to 140 mph after about 30 seconds of free-falling. Cats reach terminal velocity much sooner at about 60 mph. Before reaching terminal velocity, cats have their muscles tensed and are rigid and flexed and prepared for landing, making them more prone to injury due to the impact. Once they've reached terminal velocity, however, they relax and spread themselves out much like a flying squirrel, allowing the impact to be absorbed by a larger surface area and therefore resulting in fewer injuries. http://www.cat-olholics.com/cats-land-on-their-feet.html So... Will be tossing kitty from around 700ft from now on May we live long and die out

It's all about peer pressure anyway I triple dog dare you to do it. On the other hand... Pot belly pigs, have better stability, but we used too small of a pc, and turned it into a flat belly pig. I can't believe this thread lives while the awesome shot of me and my Beacon was sent to the trash bin along with other posts concerning it. PS. A 42 works just fine for a kitten. Pics will follow shortly May we live long and die out

I know I got my nightbase number back in 99 and it was 103. I got it from the Harrisons. Marta and Jimmy keep the nakedbase numbers. I got number 16 back in 2002 i believe. May we live long and die out

Be aware that NC is a high drama zone, so be careful to make contact with multiple jumpers so you don't get caught up in the local turf wars. I'd recommend searching the forums for the threads on that stuff so you have an idea where the firing lines are drawn, although my general impression is that mostly people there are getting along better now than they did at one point. Yes, one day we hope to be as drama free as Twin falls May we live long and die out
