For Eagle Lake, TX 77434... The Weather Channels weather.com has Sunday's forecast showing SSE 22mph winds. Weather Underground is only showing SSE 12mph winds. Anyone know why they differ so much only a few days out?
-
Yeah, I know there's a long way to go - but it becomes easier to do more jumps quicker the further along you get - reduced cost and reduced logistics - more coaches than instructors etc. The best progress I've made was a getting jumps #3 and #4 done in one day. I even bought beers for my first ever more-than-one-jump-in-a-day day :)

The "45 degree rule" for exit separation DOES NOT WORK

[Weird. I have absolutely no recollection of making a post on this topic. I wonder if I have a post poltergeist or something?] -
In Texas? STILL WINDY!!!!! D1 for me next too - hopefully this holiday weekend. If I could finish AFF this weekend it would be a very memorial weekend :-)

+1 on the unable-to-finish-AFF-due-to-wind frustration. What's worse is seeing the 5 or 7 day forecast mention 6mph winds and by the time you get there they've shot up to 18mph! AFF#1 on March 6th and I still AFF #5 to do next :( Depending on which service, I look at this weekend [Sunday/Monday] might be at 12mph which is workable. I hope it is and I'm hoping to get 4 jumps over the two days. In reality, I'll probably be learning to pack.

The TSA out of Houston is a joke. I got passed through the normal security 'door' the other week, waited for my stuff to come through in the trays, picked my stuff up, started walking to put my shoes back on and I get called back and asked to go through the 'door' again. I asked why and the guy said 'I don't know, just go through one more time, please'. The policy of screening absolutely everyone is counter productive. They're through put is too high for them to be doing it effectively. In Phoenix the 'random' swabbing of *only* economy passengers is also amusing. If it was going to be my last flight, I'd be sure to sit in as much comfort as I could.

That reminds me of home [Wales]. The valley's are green for a reason.

As I sit here in a swanky high rise in downtown Houston working on a future oil and gas platform, I can confirm there's plenty where that came from - don't fret over just 4 gallons

Not suggesting you're asking exactly the same questions - but I started a similar topic a few weeks back. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=4104319;page=unread#unread Some of the replies might be of interest etc

Essentially it's anything related to being with my daughters. Today I've been looking forward to skydiving with them. I'm only a student jumper and they are only 6 and 4 years old but when the day comes we are on our first load together? That's going to be a pretty awesome day

Hey all, Many thanks for the replies - and the links - and apologies for missing the earlier thread. It looks like Orange is getting the nod :)

I'm meeting up with a UK friend in a few weekends time and he's keen to get a tandem jump in. Can anyone advise or recommend a DZ close to Washington DC? I've done the google thing but not sure I'm finding actual DZ's or 'extreme experience' providers who farm out to DZ's. Thanks in advance

Short sale and rent for a few years? Foreclose and rent for a few more? Life is too short to stay in a cycle of fear and frustration.

+1 From my short and only visit last weekend, Eloy pretty much has a perfect set up.
-
Oh, yes. 'Been there with my first - at 3 months too. I think the mistake was allowing her to fall asleep before boarding - waking her up getting her out of the stroller to board unsettled her and nothing would put her back. That was the only flight with problems though with both her and her sister. At 5 and 3 they've both done a number of long haul flights and absolutely love it - as long as they're kept entertained.

I'm confident of holding a level stability which is the main thing for AFF #3, I guess. As long as I do that much and don't spin I'll consider it a success.
-
Yeah, I appreciate this more since the weekend. I did mention where I was with AFF on making the booking but was advised I'd need to take the first timers course and this was the only slot available that weekend.

1. (Obviously) I'm extremely new to free fall and I didn't appreciate how much I would drift. 2. Yeah. I'm not clear on what adjustments I was making (knowledge of those will come with more tunnel time and more coaching) but again, I was surprised by how easy it was to drop to the floor or shoot to the top. 3. I will definitely return to the tunnel at Eloy and for more significant blocks of time. Free fall time out SDH is sporadic at best with the windy weather at the moment and doing something [free fall related] is better than doing nothing. Here's my 2 x 2 minutes sessions... http://vimeo.com/22824985 [Lots of work required on my legs :)]
-
That's pretty where I'm at thinking about it. At least I stayed level in the tunnel, I just drifted about.
-
Yeah, I meant being released in the tunnel as opposed to being in there by myself. Without the coach correcting me a number of times in that first session there's no telling where I'd have ended up. The rest of your post makes a lot of sense too.
