Our company's new G4 has OS X, the graphics person who works on it likes it well enough -- but -- We have had to keep/load OS 9 as well because some of the older peripherals were not supported ie. Agfa Scanner, tape drives etc. and the tech people could not get the drivers (or some tech thing like that) to work. Some day when I'm old enough, they may let me play with the DVD burner and software on it Fuzzy Ambition / Ability: Know the difference.

Good point on the separate cartidges, with the cost of photo cartridges, that can be a big deal. Do you know if the separate ink tubs adds to the quality of the print as well, or is it a convieniance thing? Fuzzy Ambition / Ability: Know the difference.

Hey Murray As for Wendy knowing I bought the Coolscan IV-- I heard of one guy who was able to keep something like that secret for 6 months and counting , but if I can get a couple more toys first, it will mean only breaking the news once, the whole easier to beg forgiveness thing. Have you always used Epson? Is there a big difference between Epson, Lexmark, HP, Cannon, etc. in quality or dependability, or is it just the name? I probably would prefer to stay with an ink jet type, mainly due to ease of finding materials, but am not sure what "dye sublimation" is all about. Fuzzy Ambition / Ability: Know the difference.

I have done a search, finding a little on this subject, but would appreciate reccomendations/feedback from someone other then the store sales clerk. Preferring to hang on to my own negatives, at present when someone asks for an enlargement or re-print, I run to the developers and get it done, but would really like to scan the negative and print the copy myself. A: Is the quality and especially longevity of prints from ink jets (or other) good enough to warrant this. B: Does anyone have an idea of the costs compared to that of using a film developer (right now I pay between $8.00 & $10.00 Cdn for 8 x 12) C: Any suggestions for decent printers. Speed of printing is not so much a concern as quality. Thanks in advance. Fuzzy Ambition / Ability: Know the difference.

Can anyone tell me who holds the STC for the jump door on the single Otter? Fuzzy Ambition / Ability: Know the difference.

I have made 1200+ jumps on my suit and it's still going strong. What I like best is the bottom wing attachment point being on the inside of the leg, making it extremely effective. Even with an exit weight varying from 220 to 230lbs, there is yet to be a tandem, student, or formation too slow or fast to follow. I like to video from below and at a steep angle, this has never been a problem with this suit. The wings are easy to release on opening, with just a quick snap & no velcro to peel. I also feel this design "reduces" although does not eliminate the chance of the wing covering the hackey on my b.o.c. on deployment as it's further forward on the body. Once the velcro adjusting straps on the bottom of the wings were adjusted to my likeing, I had to sew them permanently together, as they would come undone in freefall. This was definitely a problem at first, however this style of adjustment allows you to get the wing exactly as you want them. I have purchased 3 suits (Camera / RW / & 3 piece FreeFly)from Bev, the service has always been excellent, fast and friendly, with a perfect fit and good quality everytime.

I'm using the Pinacale Studio DV7, it does have some pretty good features for the price (from my bad memory $200.00+/- Cdn including card). I have made a number of videos on this, it's much better and easier to use then my older more expensive program (not one crash in 6 months). You can check it out at "Henry's" or "Vistek" in Toronto. They were having a hard time keeping it in stock this past winter when it came out because of the price and what it can do. Of course your biggest issues, as always will be computer speed etc etc. Fuzzy Ambition / Ability: Know the difference.

Good Luck with the camera flying, have lots of fun with it. But always remember to play safe. I'll find out exactly what lens # and brand the one guy is using (& how he likes it), then you'll at least have it for future reference. Fuzzy Fuzzy Ambition / Ability: Know the difference.

The Sony .6 is a good general lens, I use it to video tandems, students, RW etc. Some of the freeflyers at our dz also use it, but one has a wider lens (.4 ?? that # may be wrong) for flying up-close and personal. Part of the choice will depend on what type/mfg, and how close you will be flying to others. If you tend to get much separation, go too wide angle and your subjects can look a mile away even if your only 10 or 20 feet apart. If you have access to different lenses (through either the store or other jumpers), try setting up your camera, see how big people appear at various distances while on the ground and use this as a basis compared to your flying style. Hope this helps somewhat, let me know Fuzzy Ambition / Ability: Know the difference.

Setting up DZ min requirements for Camera Flyers
Fuzzy replied to Fuzzy's topic in Photography and Video
Thanks for the numbers & info etc., this does help to confirm some of what we set out in print, and I think we will stick to our guns on it. Some may feel our requirements are strick, (although the reaction, and comments, so far have been good), better safe then sorry. Thanks again "Fuzzy" Dave Fuzzy Ambition / Ability: Know the difference. -
Setting up DZ min requirements for Camera Flyers
Fuzzy replied to Fuzzy's topic in Photography and Video
I agree the Tandem Instructor should and does have the last word, we have put that into print along with other criteria. We don't get too many other experienced camera flyers showing up wanting to video tandems so it's not as much of an issue. For new jumpers wanting to start fun jumping w/video our main concern is they show proficiency & currency in the skill they want to film (checkout dive/s may be required). There is other criteria to be met as well. Visiting jumpers (with lower experience) can be harder to read than a regular at the DZ, as to their ability to handle a camera. Which is why we set out our own requirements. I have talked to other operations to see how they handle this, but the more input the better, and it's all appreciated Fuzzy Ambition / Ability: Know the difference. -
Setting up DZ min requirements for Camera Flyers
Fuzzy replied to Fuzzy's topic in Photography and Video
I was asked to set up minimum requirements & guidelines for camera flyers on our DZ, and would like to know what other operations are doing (if anything), and how they compare to ours. Currently I have geared them to those wanting to get started, but there is also a section aimed at visiting camera flyers. As a tandem operation we are already strick about who can video these and / or students but again would appreciate other points of view. Fuzzy Ambition / Ability: Know the difference.
