Boeing 777 Fly-By in Seattle...British Pilot Was Fired Today *video link*
DJL replied to ACMESkydiver's topic in The Bonfire
Try again on that one....not from hotdogging.. A low pass during an airshow. Yeah, he wasn't flying inverted or anything but it's a prime example of how a pilot thinks he understands a system, puts it into a maneuver (low pass) and crashes. That would be a linguistic trap you fell into; a counter to the "He who does not learn from the past is bound to repeat his mistakes." I say that because while we need to look to the past for mistakes, it's not as easy when you're looking for solutions. Any action that you take needs to apply to the present day - you cannot simply do what you did last time to fix a problem, otherwise you're going to end up exactly where you were at the beginning. Solutions need to be proactive and modern. I don't know what "operation wetback" fully entailed and it doesn't really matter. We as a sovereign nation need to do what it takes to protect our borders but we can't do it by using a method we came up with in 1951. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

First Dropzone.com Amateur Skydiving Video Contest! - Speaker's Corner Version
DJL replied to DJL's topic in Speakers Corner
I bequeath ye' all to enter this contest from a Speaker's Corner perspective. In the true spirit of this forum, the topic should pertain not just to social issues but specifically to other people's inability to grasp the driving concepts, people's lack of intelligence, and the full understanding that after blowing around a bunch of hot air that nobody talking will actually take action regarding any of the issues. Yup, it's always something. Sounds like the company did the right thing. Their only fault was not doing it immediately instead of waiting for it to get a reaction on the internet. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher -

He probably got fired because this is what happened the last time a pilot tried to hotdog an airliner. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_EM0hDchVlY And here's another example of a pilot hotdogging a plane that has no business doing this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=myDClXpTnnc Longer version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YQa4PpIkOZU&feature=related "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher -
Anyone who looks to the past for solutions is bound to repeat their mistakes. The underlying motives in that article are so rampant with racism you can almost imagine that we're back in 1951 when white anglos didn't even consider other races to be worthy of sharing bathrooms. Dammit, that's two posts today where I took it way deeper than it needed to go. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

One of if not THEE best lost theory i have ever read
DJL replied to agent_lead's topic in The Bonfire
It took me about half-way reading it to figure that out. I don't watch TV, so I was pretty clueless at the beginning (I assumed "lost theory" meant that everyone forgot about it). Still it would be kinda neat if everyone put this much thought into every detail of their lives, not just television shows. We would probably take better care of ourselves, make better judgments with our relationships, finances, society, et al. Maybe some day ... Precisely my reaction. If people put this amount of effort into writing about or reading about real-life issues then we would be in a lot better shape as a species. Yes, I went all the way there. This is about a TV show. Television. A work of fiction that requires a popular vewier base to even exist. We're all doomed. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher -

That's one of the most downloaded episodes so it's around. Youtube doesn't keep full length vids anymore but you should be able to find it through bit torrent. Or hell, just buy the whole season for a whopping $22. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

Bullshit - you can buy a car without a license, without driver's ed training, etc.... Just like I just walked into DMV and 30 minutes later I'm a licensed motorcycle driver. No training, just 750 cc's between my legs. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

What's even sadder is that we all end up like some little boy staring through a knothole in the fence, at a construction site. You stare at workmen through a fence at construction sites? "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

You'll find that the water causes the edges to bubble if it's not extensively sealed, even if you do clean it up quickly. Hell, just pour a bucket of lacqeur on it and call it a day. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
