Rhys, what will it take for you to understand that there were not any explosives planted on these buildings? Please watch this video and tell me what you take from it: http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x1dpio_what-happened-to-wtc-building-7-on_news "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

I reference you to the only indepth conversation men have ever had about a woman: as already posted in BV's thread. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

On the other hand you don't have anywhere near the experience, knowledge, or professional background to formulate an opinion or make a statement about what EITHER side says. You're just eating what you get shoveled. Hey Rhys: THIS IS YOU! "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

oh... well... a 4th set of sanctions. That should do it. Clearly the first 3 just weren't worded harshly enough. Good thing we have such an effective group as the UN to keep an eye on things. Oh but in the 4th set of sanctions the UN will write a letter telling them just how angry they are! This about sums it up. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

Still a huge leap between sanctions and bombing. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

That shit looks like it's going the other way, that he's landing in a swoop-and-fuck-then-eat-contest. That sounds like fun! The person with the best time for laying their girlfriend and then eating a bowl of chili wins. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

If you like tripels then try Vicotory's Golden Monkey. It's one of the best US trippels I've had and isn't as floral as most tripels. If you're home brewing them then I have much respect for you. Anyway, here's a link to the Golden Monkey clone: http://www.victorybeer.com/golden_monkey.aspx "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

See http://www.hereforthebeer.com/ They're personal friends of mine (That's me in the ice fishing blog) and one of their themes is pairing beer types with events and activities if only for the literal fun of it. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

What you're describing is called a dingle-berry. And it's very annoying. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

No, but they have chemical responses to stress and injury. I'm definitely not saying this as any counter to anyone with a dog in this...chat. But if you're thinking about how life on this planet formed and how it relates to how we define ourselves then it's more of a coincidence that we are what we are. If life had evolved differently, say on a different planet under different circumstances, then we could very well have ended up not having noreceptors and relying on chemical responses rather than micro-electric responses. But, we're animals. We have evolved from animals that eat other animals as part of their diet. We've also evolved the brains to harvest or pen more of an unnatural diet than we should, whether it be cow or corn, for the mere fact that it's cheap and easy. You probably already know but be careful of using materials that will nick the rings or cause wear directly to the webbing or leg straps. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher -
Makes sense. I would really really hate to be a grinder on something like that. That's where I'll draw the line. All steering and sail control has to rely on man-power. Nav and systems is the only thing that can have power. Put it this way, you could write a program to optimize the sail trim for the wind instead relying on a human to make the call. Next, you optimize the auto-helm. Next, we're running out of reasons why the whole thing can't just be put in the water while everyone stays on shore. I'm conflicted as to whether the Cup should remain as the classic mono-hull or whether it's true advancement of the sport to keep the option open. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

Just be happy that corporate sponsorship has never gone too far. Oh wait. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher -
That's true, the real point of animals being tortured for profit is trumped by their attempt to get people to listen to it via naked girls. People want to think meat comes from a plant. Speaking of which, how many seconds until someone posts a genius assertion about plant sufferring? F the plants. Think of the mice, rabbits, snakes, skunks, possums, squirrels, gophers and rats that are murdered to produce a vegan menu! "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

Don't put ME in the "You Guys" group. I'm neither a Republican nor Conservative. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

Actually, you're wrong about that. Our historical diet has included plants, animals, and insects. It's a physiological fact that we need a level of protein that cannot be obtained by a vegetarian diet. It must come from insects and animals. Eating insects went out of vogue for some reason and the steak became epically popular so we're left with factory farming. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

I haven't seen anything about Christianity in this story. This is an issue of a person being out of touch to the "let them eat cake" extent. But I understand the argument. Some modern Christians are like Christ as much as Stalinist Communism was about helping the community. It just has nothing to do with this guy and this guy and this attitude has nothing to do with true Christianity. But if people think that it's only the right that's out of touch then they need to pay more attention to what's going on in their own camp. Mass just voted in a Republican because of how out of touch they feel the Democrats are with the average voter. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

I took it more as a cop-out of a good metaphor. That anyone is actually taking these messages as anything other than gimmicky plot devices for Cameron to make money is laughable. Remember that this isn't 1984, Fahrenheit 451, or even I, Robot. It was written as a film to make money by James Cameron who's JOB it is to make money from film. Sci-Fi Films that come from books are delivered (hopefully) from the angle that the message is first. Even George Lucas had a purist sci-fi movie in THX 1138. So here in Avatar land we have a convenient mix of modern personal-societal-military-economic cliches. There's a love story, there's the peaceful indigenous nature lovers, there's the one-dimensional military killers, and the machine of the whole story is human-kind's greed. The message in Sci-fi has always been an important one which when boiled down is usually about government or business having unethical control over the moral individual. Sometimes this message is strong as in any distopian storyline, sometime it just makes for a good bad guy like Vader. So, is it important that these messages are out there? Yes, they're just not very creative. It's about as new as Bush-bashing (he's an idiot, let's move on to something new). The good part is that even though these cliches are annoying they're at least making the viewer think "I don't think it's like that. I don't want it to be like that. I will prove that it's not like that." And when that soldier, politician, voter, businessman is in that very similar situation in which the issue is money vs. life then this comparison is more obvious to him and to the people around him. The Age of the Killer Robot is No Longer a Sci-Fi Fantasy
DJL replied to dreamdancer's topic in Speakers Corner
That was more along the lines of what i was thinking when I asked the question! You have t kill the operator to kill the robot right? It is a good way to bring the battle to you home shores, i think that is maybe what america needs in order to pull its arrogant, unpatriotic, selfish head in! You're missing a big chunk of the story. We'll just outsource it to third-world nations. That way we can just sit here thinking about how awesome we are without any risk. Sound about right?
