  1. I went through AFF in Antioch, CA in 1985 and my student rig was equipped with an FXC12000. On my 3rd level AFF jump the manafest lady checked to make sure I put on my gear correctly before being turned over to the instructors. She set the FXC by just turning it to the opening altitude. On the jump the thing fired at 9,000ft giving me a long canopy ride. I was told on the ground that the correct way that the FXC should have been set was: 1) to zero it and then 2) set it to the desired opening height.
  2. I've had a few: '94 plane crash with 5 jumpers on board. The Cessna 206 engine cut out at 300ft on jump assent and during the attempted landing the plane stalled at 50ft over a grass strip just next to the run way. The plane flipped on it's nose after shearing off the nose gear and ended up on it's back. No deaths but lots of broken bones. Me: Broken right leg, back and crushed C6/C7 vertabrae. I was back jumping after 8 weeks. '98 crushed right heal during a demo jump. This was more painful than the air crash injuries (lots of nerve endings in the heal). I was back jumping after 12 weeks.
  3. I was in a plane crash in '94 - a Cessna 206 shortly after take off - the engine failed. The plane nosed in at about 50ft off the ground and flipped. Lots of broken bones but no deaths. I had a broken back, right leg and neck crushed (C6 & C7). I was jumping again in 8 weeks. One reason I got back into jumping so soon was that my neck injury wasn't diagnosed until 6 months after the accident. If I had known about the neck problem at the time of the accident I may never have gone back into jumping!
  4. I ordered a new Javelin in late Nov '10 and it was delivered just before Christmas '10 - not even close to 10 weeks. Unfortunately I'm still waiting for PD to deliver the canopies and it's now almost mid-Feb Back to the Javelin subject: my first rig in '85 was an Altitude Shop 'Corsair' then in '92 I bought a new Javelin. I loved the rig very much and then dropped out of the sport for 5 years in early 2000's. I sold the whole rig to friend that still jumps it today - 19 years old now - and it looks brand new. So I decided to by a new Jav late last year
