72% of Grocery Carts have fecal matter on them
JerseyShawn replied to regulator's topic in The Bonfire
Man, the Jersey public school system should hire skydivers The only thing I walked away with from science class was my inhaling farts story that I always held dear to me. There goes my conversation starter. -

http://www.chacha.com/question/is-it-true-that-when-someone-farts-microscopic-feces-are-released-into-the-air Sorry I can't make it a clicky, but we had this discussion in my science class years ago. Im sure under and outerwear would filter some out. But maybe not because a study showed that movie theatre seats are covered in it because of the all might fart. Or like you said, unless you really get in there Gross! -

I might add, when someone farts, microscopic particals of poop are released in the air with it. So, when you smell someone elses fart you actually inhale their crap. Movie theatre seats are covered in it. -
Hahaha! I was hoping the pic was of a colored helmet, instead I got a glimps of my father as a youth and what was going on in his head as he answered the door with a police officer standing next to me. Thanks. Sorry to regurgitate the same topic again. I did a search and didn't find my answer. My father was right, im good for nothin'

I read on another thread that the Bonehead Guner is quiet in freefall. For those that rock the Guner, is it quiet enough not to wear earplugs? As, will it prevent eventual hearing loss without the plugs? I've got the Benny helmet, seems like a good helmet if I ever had to bang my head. But I get the post ear ringing for about a day after jumping with it. I don't yet want to wear ear plugs until im more experienced, I like to be able to hear other canopies around me. Im always looking who's around under canopy, im just not comfortable not hearing them fully yet. Call me conservative if you will. Also, if I do decide to get one, I hate the carbon fiber look. Anyone have pictures of the different color options they offer that you can post? Their site doesnt show you actual colored helmets, just digital images samples. If the Guner seems like it will work for me Ill gladly give the Benny to another student........AFF is somewhat expensive. I just got out of debt so no one post save your money for jumping All the money I make is mine! Feels damn good! Thanks!, Shawn.

Coming to America - San Fran recommendations
JerseyShawn replied to James525's topic in Events & Places to Jump
I jump at Skydance in Davis, CA, my home DZ. I've jumped in Byron, CA also. Both have a great atmosphere! Good people at both places. They both also enjoy a beverage at the end of the day. Both are about an hour and a half away from SF. Welcome to the states and San Francisco! Have fun! -
Small twist ties. Drill a secondary hole next to the existing holes on the wrist strap. I didn't like the wax string, didn't seem too secure.

I doubt it would help anything except scraping your skin up. I would figure being you said you had martial arts training that you would know it takes very low pressure and a hit at the right angle to break bones easily. A 1/4" of padding would do nothing at 15-40 mph to stop a bone injury. Do what the experienced jumpers have learned and proved to work effectively, PLF. When you do find something that you have actually tried and works, post it. Some newbie (I am, but not me) might see one of your posts and try it. Like your video thread you tried to tell newbies to watch to learn to flare at the right time under canopy, yet you had yet to try it youself. Learn from the older/wiser jumpers that have made mistakes and made the sport what it is today for you and I. No disrespect intended Shah

Wecome! Get info from your instructors, not these forums Have fun on your jump! Don't forget to smile and breathe!

Not to highjack this thread: Ive done a few solos since my AFF, do the solo jumps in between coaching need to be signed in my logbook to prove I've met the 25 total needed?

I have a new Viplo FT50/60. 8 jumps on it. On the 6th jump at 6000 feet it started jumping from 6000 to 4000 back and forth. I was locked on it for about 3-4 seconds and it stayed there. Waved off and pulled. Had it pressure tested, it worked fine. They also had someone jump it for me. Worked fine. Jump 7 and 8, it was reading about 400 feet higher than everyone elses on the way to altitude. Read 0 on the ground when I landed. I always triple check it to 0 on the ground before we load, that's not the problem. Should I waste my money getting it fixed or looked at again? Or just buy something better? Anyone have problems with Viplos? Im not going to jump it again until its fixed or I get a new one. Any recommendations are welcomed. Thanks in advance!

What is killing the sport of skydiving?
JerseyShawn replied to cocheese's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
A question for you long time jumpers: when was Skydiving at its peak?.......when the most people were into the sport? -
Did my first solo yesterday.

Wingsuit sounds good. 2.1:1 wingload it. Head down formation. CReW pyramid on the way down and swoop the swoopers, show them a thing or two. Until then, ill assume the roll of a Skypeasant. -
If you jumped out of a plane, its a jump. I counted my tandem that I did 10 years ago. Im up to a whopping 8 jumps now.

Did my first solo yesterday.
JerseyShawn replied to JerseyShawn's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
So on my first solo after AFF I was really excited to jump on my own for the first time! How great it was going to be, I thought on the way up to altitude. I got to spot (with assistance) being the first one out. I jumped! In all seriousness, I was kind of disappointed. It wasn't as fun as I thought it should be. I dont want to use the word boring but it was. I don't see why you all like jumping so much. Maybe I was expecting too much. Other than that, it was awesome! I love it! I turned when I felt like it, did a back and front flip. The freedom of not having someone tell you what to do is, there's no words to describe it. Pure relaxation! Graduated my AFF one class early yesterday, traded the last paid class for some jump tickets. Smartest trade I've made lately. Got all my landings within 40 feet of the landing target during AFF. On my solo I landed on the target! Maybe accuracy type stuff will be for me. -
ShahD Telling students/newbies to watch videos to learn how to flare under canopy to land, that can get someone hurt, is dumb. Not a question about beer dues out of respect for my instructors and other jumpers that go out of their way to teach me how not to kill myself. To everyone else who posted, thanks for wit and wisdom.

Hi everyone. I plan on finishing up my AFF tomorrow, Friday, if all goes well. Flipping yay! Im excited. Are my dues owed on the day I finish? My DZ is usually quiet during the week, not really packed with jumpers. On Saturdays and Sundays it proves to be really eventful. Would it be frowned upon to bring beer the following weekend when more people can enjoy a drink or two after a day of jumping?

failed first AFF jump
JerseyShawn replied to guineapiggie101's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I was nervous too on my first jump, didn't fail though. My instructor said to take a couple of deep breaths when I was hanging on about to jump, then check in check out. Those breaths really did relax me prior to jumping. Relax (shakes hand signal). Go over what you didn't do right with your instructor and practice your dive flow on the ground. Try it again! It gets really fun once your relaxed, easier said than done I know. Congratulations on trying though! That's a great first step!
