(2) He didn't have the intimate knowledge of the Washington Oregon area where the hijacking ocurred ? (3) He didn't have an intimate knowledge of aviation or parachuting, that DBC may have had ? (4) His criminal history isn't of the type to place him in the catagory of bank robbery, bomb builder, or criminal acts involving overt physical acts which place him in direct contact with his victims? Melvin is known for fraud and forgery which are passive-indirect (covert) criminal acts. If I recall this correctly, JT said he thought Melvin was the best candidate he had ever seen - and I never could understand what exactly JT was keying on in Melvin's background or character to justify such a reaction... He was born in 1927 and raised in Oakland. He went into the Navy in November of 1943. 3) Here again...unsure of any knowledge he may have had. In the Navy he was stationed on a few different ships. One was the USS Durik. According to his DD14 he was gunnery. Here is a Youtube video about this ship. He was also an avid scuba diver. Tanks on the back and a sense of weightlessness. 4) Who knows what he would have done after he left us. YES! *None of the other suspects had the propensity for violence either. In addition, all the other suspects were alive after the hijacking. I feel he should be looked at as a suspect. DNA is complete on our end and fingerprints were forwarded to NamUs. I have an investigator/liaison for NamUs that has left messages with Eng and he is not returning her calls. Going back to Carr....he put information from the FBI files to the public to generate interest and a memory. The work is already done on our end through NamUs. DNA results are completed and can be compared to the DNA samples at Quantico. Just need an agent to call back and say GO. So there you have it. According to Jerry and Himmelsbach Melvin has never been looked at by the FBI and has not been a candidate. If he has a simple email or phone call would be nice. I did leave off the other witnesses. My point was the other witnesses were in the same situation as you when you estimated the height of Brett Boone. It was trying to piece together after the fact a description that's more likely to be faulty. I was proposing that Tina, when she left the plane to retrieve the parachutes and money was instructed to make a note of the hijackers height, weight, hair, etc., and unlike the other witnesses would not be trying to put together a description from memory. The other passengers descriptions are not discounted, but I would give them less weight than Tina's, especially since hers was so close to that of Flo's, who would also be trained to make note of that information. By the way, the shortest description was "no more than 5'9". Kenny was 5'8". How far below that 5'9" are you willing to go? In addition to basic physical facts, there are mannerisms. How did the guy act? Did he smile a lot, grimace, smirk, frown a lot, etc. I am told Kenny had distinct mannerisms. For the life of me I dont know why we are spending all of this time on KC. We might just as well be comparing a 'chicken'! Rather than persons with the greatest statistical deviation from the mean ... why not find somone that approaches the mean? Moreover Mr. Blevins' arguements dont approach the mean! I watched an interview a while back of the sketch artist who did the original sketches... he said the witnesses all mentioned a protruding lower lip... Perhaps like what a kid would do who is not getting his way? Not something you would fake, but something that you would do under pressure w/o thinking about it?? We have the prints and the are in the possession of the University of North Texas (UNT) and uploaded into the NamUs database. I asked the deputy from Pierce County to send them to NamUs...and he did. The NamUs regional director, and retired homicide detective from Florida, who is in charge of my fathers case called SA Curtis Eng. He has yet to return any phone calls to her. She called 5 weeks ago. One case scenario...She wants the prints and the DNA they have on the FBI's file. UNT will do the comparisons. The second option is UNT sending what they have to Quantico for comparison. My brother's and my DNA samples are just sitting there....waiting. That's interesting, Georger. I know one of the tacks the FBI took at the time was to check against any missing person reports. That still seems strange to me in this case. The person would have to stop showing up to work, and stop supporting a family. It seems if the hijacker were an educated person, he'd leave a hole somewhere. But, you're right...If a person had no family or close friends and quit a job and moved shortly before the hijacking maybe nobody would notice. That seems like a more uncommon than common situation, but that's just speculation on my part. Another angle was to ask around, 'who is in debt to the tune of $200k'. I kind of doubt the generalization that 'in a large percentage of (missing person) cases no one cares, glad to see them go missing, etc.. Even the friends of homeless people sometimes report a homeless person missing, if they had certain habits in their lifestyle and just disappeared. Nearly everyone else has other things in their lives, such as a job, a home, friends, family, co-workers, landlords, bill collectors, whatever. I think that in the large majority of cases when someone goes missing....SOMEONE calls it in. Or the landlord finally uses his key, whatever. I think the chances are that someone like Cooper would be reported missing if he WENT missing. This leaves only a few possibilities. He never went missing because he got away with it. The missing person report was somehow never associated with the hijacker. The missing person was not from the Northwest so no one thought to associate him with Cooper. On the description of Cooper: All three stews gave different combinations from the FBI's Face ID composite catalog. I'm not going down this road again here. There is one opinion (the description is correct to a fault) and there is another: Gray's claim in his book that in reality, the witnesses hardly agreed on anything. In fact, Flo Schaffner and Tina Mucklow disagreed on height, as well...although not by a lot. See Skyjack, pages 90-92. Gray is saying this. He will be in Tacoma at the museum this week. He's seen all the available documents on Kenny's property. (I emailed them to him recently and warned him that some people at the symposium might question how he established his facts on the house) So...you have two questions to ask Gray. Facts on the house. What he thinks about the original witness reports that the Seattle FBI allowed him to examine. I did think about going to this event, but even if I wanted to, I have to work. ....or a missing persons report was not filed until August of 2012. In fact, when speaking with the deputy at the Dane County Sheriff's Department, he stated Melvin's fingerprints were found on a card in their files and never uploaded to IAFIS. On October 1, 2013, SA Curtis Eng received a voice mail from my regional director from NamUs. Just go to Amazon and search out D.B. Cooper. They have all the books available on the case listed in one spot when you search out that term under 'Books'. My recommendations are, in this order: 1) Skyjack - by Geoffrey Gray. 2) D.B. Cooper - Dead or Alive? by Richard Tosaw. 3) Norjack - The Investigation of D.B. Cooper by Ralph Himmelsbach. There's this other book that puts forward the idea that Cooper might have been an actual employee of the airline, but you can get that one free just by contacting the author. Thank Vickie, but that WAS Paradise park on the interstate to WA. The one I am looking for was just a trail and walking or hiking park in Washougal. It was east of the bridge in Washougal that crossed the Washougal River there. Seems like the CC's had something to do with the construction of this TRAIL. Since we didn't go down the trail except to the stones - I wonder now if there was not some way of crossing the river at that point - but no bridges were seen. From the place he took me I could NOT see a river or a stream so maybe it was just a trail park...I could HEAR Water! Strange I remembered that - but I could HEAR water...not see it. Maybe I was just enthralled by the natural state of things...and the fact Duane said one of the rock had his initials under it. I even regreted stating that in the thread for fear someone would go find it and take it...so maybe I erased the part about the initials, but I don't think I did. Robert, this was checked out by the FBI and there have been posts on it. Tom Kaye posted several months ago about a Canadian who disappeared about that time. And -- Vicki please correct me on this if I'm wrong -- Mel Wilson is only talked about as a potential suspect because he disappeared shortly before the hijacking. Yes, he disappeared September 15, 1971. With help from NAMUS and an advocate. We contacted a deputy from the Dane County Sheriff to write a missing persons report. Apparently, one was never completed as he was not missing, but he was a fugitive from justice. https://www.findthemissing.org/en/cases/15178/56/ DNA samples were taken from my brother and myself and are on file at NAMUS. Mel's fingerprints were also uploaded into their system. Problem is the DNA only runs on the missing person side of the CODIS database and not on the criminal side.
