Good point about the silk commentary Sluggo. Secret Agent with code name "ckret", head of the FBI task force on Cooper (aka Homeland Cooper) and contact point for the Citizen's Sleuth Group posted on April 1 2008 here http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=3170951;search_string=silk;#3170951 and said "I am not sure about it being silk, if it was, it was not in the ground that long" He posted that immediately after posting (same page) "Yes, it's official, the canopy was not Coopers " So, the determination it was "not Coopers" must not have hinged on the silk determination. Why does Blevins seem to think the Cooper chute identification hinges on silkness? What does Blevins know that the thread doesn't know, and why is Blevins holding back? Blevins also pretended not to know who Emrich was. Yet how could a Cooper researcher not know? Something doesn't add up. Maybe Blevins is Brent? Maybe the History Channel will get to the bottom of Blevins involvement? Where was Blevins in May 1984?

1) FBI shows a parachute with a clear DOM of Feb 21, 1946. They then say its silk, later. 2) Blevins says no. It's not silk because of secret knowledge he has. He also apparently has secret knowledge that Cooper was given this 1946 chute, in 1971 3) The History Channel has validated 2) by recording/publishing it..well actually published in the future, after a secrecy pact has expired. (edit) another thought. You're so vociferous, you must have researched all the military plane incidents from the 40's and early 50's in that area from available books. Can you share the research you did in that area? (edit) Or maybe I missed a theory? Maybe Mr Blevins is suggesting the Amboy chute is not DOM 1946. Maybe that was faked for secret purposes, presumably by Larry Carr. Why did the paintball guy get access to the money, but not the chute? Apparently Mr Blevins knows why but won't say?

I think you've said the same thing a couple hundred times. Are you adding any information? Here's what it sounds like: 1) You have theories about silk degradation 2) You have theories about how long the Amboy chute was in the ground 3) You know about two military crashes that were before the DOM on the Amboy chute 4) You think the FBI did the silk vs nylon identification wrong. If you want to start having deep conversations about silk degradation, then go ahead and start. Start with the year you think the Amboy chute was buried. And state why you think you know. It sounds like you have a hard time understanding that Larry Carr's stunt was kind of a fake deal. You seem to want it to have the full weight of FBI-authentic on it. It never did. Get it? It's like watching a play or movie. Suspended disbelief. But that's history now. How have you brought doubts to the silk claim? You've just said "I don't believe it" That's just saying "no". That's not bringing anything? Bring something. So far, you've brought nothing. (edit) Oh you have another theory i noticed. You have a theory that the Amboy chute was buried in a deployed/open state...i.e. not packed, for some number of years. Is that true? Why do you think that? (edit) There is no official FBI story on the Amboy chute. They just said it's silk. That's it. You're the one adding the rumors (based on newspaper crap)

Just because it's on tv, or web sites or you have metallurgy experts or paintball guys gone pro, or gone amateur or ???, doesn't make something more real. Or initials like FBI. I think people have a hard time accepting that this thread, for instance, can be more real, than what social institutions are. Mr Blevins, you're back focusing on the FBI. There are no pretty women at the FBI that are single. Bruce verified this. What's the point? (edit) why am I not Brent now? Same dog. Same keyboard. (edit) "or 63 years (military pilot story)" Mr Blevins, you are lost in the weeds. There is no military pilot story that holds water. Unless you know of additional crashes in that area after the DOM? You're repeating rumors, and blaming others for bad rumors that are obviously false? Again..why bother? what's the point?

I saw that Sheridan Peterson had posted on this thread. Since we were just discussing Linn Emrich (that person), I thought this following post was interesting. It seems to me that the history and characters of Issaquah in its early days is not well told. At least, not on this thread. But shouldn't it be? I have no idea if Sheridan is just a B.S. artist. But there doesn't seem to be any people around from Issaquah in the '60s to provide additional info. Has anyone ever posted here, that jumped at Issaquah in the early '60s? It got me wondering about who were all the interesting characters from Issaquah that might have met the age and physical description. Does anyone know what color Sheridan's eyes are? (funny, he misspells Linn's name much like others do) Why would he bother getting Linn's USPA number down? C-1036. Is that correct? Is he just a nut case? On my fortieth birthday. May 2, 1965, I made my first “batwing” skydive at the Issaquah Sport Parachute Club just east of Seattle. A seamstress sewed patches of denim to a pair of coveralls beneath both arms and between the legs. The space from my elbow to my wrist was held in place with a cord that was looped over the thumb. Just prior to reaching in for the pull, I’d slip the loop from my thumb. Because the Parachute Club of America, the USPA’s predecessor, prohibited the use of “batwings”, the club safety officer forbid me to jump. However, Linn Emerick (C-1036) interceded. He said that he saw nothing wrong with the wings. It was his club and if I wanted to jump them I had his authorization. I made a thirty second delay from seventy-two hundred feet; however the wings slowed my decent, so I assume that it was a forty or forty-five second delay. I wrote in my log book that the wings improved my stability and that the turns were slower. I made a second thirty second that day. My “batwing” venture ended three years later in Vietnam. Although I was the president and jump master of the Saigon Sport Parachute Club, Sgt. Ray Duffy, A Golden Knight, tore the wings from my coveralls at a meeting while I was in the Mekong Delta working as a Refugee Advisor. He too said that “batwings” were prohibited. I'm not a jumper, and it's obvious you're just writing comics here: "He fought his way to the bottom of the stairs, his heart racing. I believe Bruce dug up some stuff that said they were looking for Sheridan back then but couldn't find him. I don't know what you mean by "thoroughly checked out" though. Your standards may be different than mine? And why say "this Linn Emrich person"? You make it sound like he's some dude out of nowhere. If you don't understand Linn's connection to the story..well, you don't seem very well read.? Are you saying Linn is not part of the story?

In the pdf file you distributed, you wrote on page 34 "Securing anything bulky to his chest besides the emergency chute might cause him to go into a tumble during a freefall. If that happened, once he pulled the ripcord on the main chute he would entangle in the lines and collapse the chute. However, he knew what to do. As he had done many times before in the Army, he would make the jump with any extra cargo dangling below him from a line tied to his waist." I guess you could claim you didn't say KC had freefal experience from that paragraph. But why did you use the word freefall there? Seems like intentional deception, either of yourself or the readers. This isn't attacking you. Just pointing out that you don't seem to understand how your writing is absorbed by readers. (edit) Or maybe you do? You did brag about your History Channel deal. So maybe I misread intent? See, all those words imply Kenny had done this all before, and knew exactly what to do. An alternative paragraph could have been: "Although this was Kenny's first freefall, he wasn't shitting bricks. Because he had sorted mail in Japan." this is in reponse to Mr Blevin's post: "First, I'd like to mention an important point. I never said in the book or to the History Channel that I thought Kenny made any freefall jumps. We just established he was a paratrooper and that's all. "

I'm reading the current military jump pay... says $150/month regular, and $225 for Halo. You can only get one or the other. Have to make at least one jump per 3 months. also reading a vietnam account that says then you got $50/month extra for jump pay. (normal army private $78/month?). So Jump Pay was relatively more significant back then? Okay I found a WWII jump pay reference here: seems to be talking about 1941-1943 Jump pay was $50 month (book is talking about before 1943 I guess) and $100/month for officers. wow! have to double check that but book seems authentic. So if the qualification was quarterly back then, then 3 months * $50 = $150 per jump. That matches the $150 reference in KC's letter. Who could come up with the idea of doing demo jumps in Japan for civilians to watch, within a year of firebombing a nearby city? (or nuking two). I can't imagine there's any account of such a demo, by anyone? Porteus is a city guy. I wonder if that skews his thinking. (edit) I wonder if the total number of jumps (static line) that KC did were just the qualifying jumps. It doesn't sound like went out of his way to jump..a la Amazonia.

Thanks for all that, Amazon. Looks like I erred in copying Linn's misspelled name from the article. It seems like both his first name and last name are constantly misspelled. I was re-reading an old article and I just noticed that Linn Emrick says he selected the chest rigs (I had forgotten whether it was Linn or another employee) But Linn admits it wasn't obvious to him: Emrick of Sky Sports Inc., Issaquah, Wash., said the 'chute was for ground practice only and the canopy was sewn shut. Amazon: C-9 chest mount bailout container. So you're saying this is not a chest reserve, but a chest main? Why would there be one hanging in the stack of apparently in-use chest reserves? (i just noticed it appears to have some nylon cord on the side handles, like the fbi chest reserve did..always wondered what the heck that cord was about) Reading what you say some more, you think maybe it was modified into a chest reserve? Referencing the picture again: do you think it is fully stuffed with a main or reserve? It could very easily be one of the C-9 chest mount bailout containers where the aircrew wore a harness but not the parachute due to space limitations on some aircraft types and they would snap on the chest mount to the 2 D rings on the harness if a problem with the aircraft arose. They were pretty common on some of the large aircraft in the 50's, 60's and 70's. I had one of those when I first started in the early 70's that had been modified into my very first reserve. AS a young financially strapped service member the fancy sport gear was just out of reach price wise, so many of us had surplus GI gear with modified surplus military canopies like the C-9 or a T-10 with a 5 TU or 7 TU or other cut. Almost all of the DZ's I frequented back in the day used that kind of gear for students. The Seattle Skydivers Club at Snohomish still had a bunch of that stuff and I got to jump some a few years ago in 2003 at the Green Meet... Mr Robert99, The claims about the FBI seem to go back to the behaviors of one rogue agent: Larry Carr. Larry Carr has evidently been dealt with. So it's unfair to claim the FBI is doing what you're saying, today. What information do you have, today, other than old web pages, that says the FBI wants information from the public about DB Cooper? What agent are you saying the public should be in contact with? My experience is all encompassing. I have no flaws.

There are many other things that are confidential but I can not speak of them either. I fully sympathize with your position. Are you introduced in any products from the Urals area? Oh: P.S. What things did you get right in your first book? Can you list them again? It feels like the same definition of "right" that Jo Weber uses. It would be nice to list whatever is "right" that meets a stronger definition than the Weber or Gossett definition. And why do you mention the FBI so much? Why does that matter in terms of KC? I think the only thing there is to mention that the FBI never investigated KC. So there's no extra info beyond that?

According to Skipp Porteus, the story of Kenny jumping comes from a single letter dated August 4, 1946 from Sendai (a different city than what Blevins claimed in his book. Maybe that's the city Blevins moved to?) There isn't detail in this snippet about what the $150 was for. Was the jump for being re-certified to receive paratrooper pay grade? My first thought would be that..not a "demo jump" Where did the freefall demo jump idea come from? Did Mr. Blevins make it up for the History Channel? Mr. Blevins: Do you have the letter? From Skipp: "“Dear Folks,” Kenny wrote home in one letter dated August 4, 1946, from Sendai. “I went to church this morning. I went last Sunday also. I had more reason to go last Sunday, as after ten months of hibernation, I once again donned a chute and reserve and entered a C-46. I cringed a good deal, but I managed once again to pitch myself into the blast. That jump was worth $150. The nicest thing about the whole affair was that I never had time to worry about it … Don’t get the idea that I didn’t get that certain stomackless [sic] feeling, because I did.”" Mr. Blevins quotes this letter in his book, and provides no other Japan letters. Are there any others? Kenny was deployed, after his initial training on August 16, 1945. [Ed. note: Japan surrendered on August 12, 1945. Nagasaki was August 9, 1945] Looking at the ten month "hibernation" ..maybe this was his first jump after training. Amazon: is there an annual jump certification required (back then?)

I mentioned the POW camps at Fukuoka that were pretty brutal. I just found an interesting site. The POWs evidently marked their site, and Allied forces dropped supplies by parachute. Photos from the actual airdrop attached. You can see the letters "P" and "W" on the rooftop buildings. http://home.comcast.net/~winjerd/Supply/fukdiv.htm "All supplies landed within 600 ft. of camp. " You know when the parachute was manufactured. You don't know how long it was in the ground. Those are two different events. For instance, it wasn't buried until after it was manufactured. That is a sure thing. And it was buried before it was discovered. But other than that, you're just writing a story.
