I'm a proponent of having a camera course. The current system places no emphasis whatsoever on what you should do once you've reached 200 jumps and are ready to bolt, glue, velcro, ziptie, tie, rubberband or tape a camera to your helmet. The fact that I mentioned all those methods of mounting a camera should be proof enough that we need a course for jumping camera's. There are plenty of great skydiving professionals that could teach a high quality course, earn a little weather-hold income, and probably save jumpers money in the long run vs replacing camera's and helmets, and reserve repacks.

Sorry to Hijack this thread but... I have a Canon Rebel XS I would like to take stills with. I intend to use it for fun jumps only and not very often. I have a Rawa Vision with a flatlock on it for the mount. What kind of switch should I get. Can I get an Indicator etc... Any help would be appreciated.

i feel like freefly is dead. What is your perception?
GoHuskers replied to IMGR2's topic in Freeflying
San Marcos Grand Caravan is getting a Blackhawk conversion. Talent level ranges from world record holders to first season. We have at least 30 freefliers on a good weather saturday. You have good FF DZ's to your North, South, and East, there's plenty of options for you if you want them. I don't know if your DZ will ever get a talent pool. The rules for going to "full altitude" aren't very attractive. -

Choosing the right drop Zone
GoHuskers replied to Ramzisleiman's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I would suggest doing AFF where you plan to jump. Building a pool of jump partners is a key component of enjoying the sport. -

Roam2 is very easy to operate so less likely to run out of batteries, less likely to miss a video. File size is significantly smaller than GoPro. But: Colors are not that good. If you remove the memory card you might have problems with files shutting off after 20 seconds. The only way to playback that I know of is to copy and paste the file. It might be worth it for the ease of operation if you just want to get the video hassle free...

How to desensitize to the inital "drop"
GoHuskers replied to DrDom's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I would guess that replacing a negative anticipation of the weird feeling with a task would be the best solution. A good example is focusing on your body position and making sure that you are presenting it so that the wind will push you into the position you want to be in to ride the hill and have a good skydive. Every discipline in skydiving is a series of tasks whether you are turning points or holding part of a raft you have something you're supposed to do from climbout to laying your canopy on the packing room floor. Just focus on your purpose. -
How aggressively did you down size?

The irony is that some of the best flyers in the sport with the best camera setups film the same jump thousands of times. But jumpers gotta jump, planes gotta fly...

What is the weight? Is it going to be a wider fit? I got rid of my G3 because it was too narrow ear to ear and a little too long front to back.

I've had problems with my digital altimeter reading 1k high. I never realized that it might be the display lagging. Also from time to time it will be switch into canopy mode while in freefall. Minor nuisance but I've never lost altitude awareness from these little hiccups.

1. "Just cause Don Cross demands I have an AAD at Nagambie does not mean I have to turn it on" !! 2. " I now have over a 100 jumps. I disconnected my RSL " (When I asked why he could not answer) If those are the dumbest things you've heard at the DZ you didn't stick around very long. You know golf has many forums where they nitpick each other all night long. Go to the driving range, troll their forums.

My home DZ was open today. Should I be mad at them. Someone please tell me what to do.

Military Training Reservations do have significant environmental restrictions that they have to follow. The 2 bases at which I've spent the majority of my time have an issue with areas around the training base that were unused 50 years ago have been developed pushing species into the training reservation and making their numbers dwindle into endangered species territory. It definitely has an impact on training.

20 injured in Pa. high school stabbings
GoHuskers replied to FreeFallFiend's topic in Speakers Corner
What? That sounds dangerously like advocating a relationship between a man and woman. Also seems discriminatory against the unemployed, incarcerated, and irresponsible. You can't do that today. Furthermore, if my kids school has a better teacher/student ratio than some other kids school than the message will be more effective and "the system" if preferentially teaching my child to be more successful than someone else's child. That further perpetuates the inheritance of wealth and keeps the folks in the class they were born into. All of which is not in line with current social trends. Classes will also have to been screened by Child Protective Services because 1 branch of government can't propogate a message that another branch of government doesn't agree with and parenting classes are aimed at the raising of children which is of course CPS's lane. They also have to make sure that physical contact can NEVER be an appropriate intervention to bad behavior to protect against a legitmate abuse case with a misleading message from the 8th grade so they will more than likely ADVOCATE chemical intervention if they even have the gusto to address those rare situations where your child is not doing as you would like them to. What your talking about sounds like something only a private school can accomplish. -

People are afraid of knives. People are more afraid of knives than they are of guns. I've participated in combatives scenarios where an armed male tries to make his way across a large room with an overwhelming opposition force. In the pistol scenario (low velocity paint sims) 3-4 people get shot before a dogpile disarms him. In the knife scenario, they skirt the wall and are given a 2 arms length distance and make it to the door more often than not. People are afraid of knives. -
*** Right. And I'm guessing that most on here (Grue excepted) are fine with that. But the argument seems fundamentally the same as the AAD argument, just one is accepted and one is not. Reserves are expensive. They can possibly kill you. Lots of people never use them. But most of us would never even entertain the idea of jumping without one. I'm not sure if anybody wants to call the USA a "nanny state" because they mandate reserves. I think as we get more and more separation between us and the time when AADs were new, they'll come to be as accepted and vital as reserves are. quote] I have been thinking the same thing up to this point in the thread. I think AADs becoming Mandatory is more of a function of Dropzone's accepting legal risk. Are they more exposed to a lawsuit for allowing crazy skydivers to jump without an AAD or more exposed to a fatality resulting from an AAD malfunction when they are required at the dropzone.

Jerry, I'd like to order one of your bags from Chutingstar. I'm unsure whether Rigging Innovations is a Type 1 or Type 2 bag. Type 1 Vector, Javelin, Wings. Type 2 Mirage, Infinity. Could you please clarify?
-
Smuggle cigarettes, prescription meds, and maple syrup and you will jump for free.
-
And you said something to them?
-
2 rigs yes, his and hers.

A GoPro is going to break at the mount. I know a lot of low time belly fliers who've already had to replace GoPro's knocked off their heads in freefall due to simply bumping each other. If there are "a lot of people that have had theirs knocked off in freefall", how is it that we're not hearing about those people from anyone? I know of at least 4 at my DZ. One of which was attributed to not taking the time to ensure the clip arms clicked into place and it wasn't secured with the anti-vibration rubber piece. The camera was found and the camera and mount both worked fine after landing in a plowed field.

Closing wasteful loopholes sounds like we should believe that we are spending money wastefully due to loopholes but I'm going to take that to mean, they intend to generate more tax revenue by increasing taxes.

Yep, my response to #1 is embedded in #2. "Unless it's an Argus." Has the Argus ever had a fail to fire or fire outside of parameters incident or just the cutter issues.
