Yes. The army has rank, pay structures, and enlisted vs officer positions. Definitely not egalitarian. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

Seems to work pretty well in the US Army. Since the Army isn't self-contained to where it generates its own money, this can't be a good example. All Army income comes from the outside. Now those communes in New Mexico. . . but they are way small and exist inside the bubble of a larger country. . . _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

Too "French Revolution". No one is going to rise against the rich; they'll get fired! _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

Speculating also drives prices down. Matter of fact, speculation is what prices everything involving commerce. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

You only lose if you sell, or your company goes into the "pink sheets". Problem with the ban at wall street is it may be the ban itself that is the reason behind the increases of the stock prices. A lot of those stocks may very well be overvalued if the ban is pulled at the wrong time. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

Most short sellers and margin buyers tend to be reactive. "Pump and Dump" and "False Rumor" are proactive. If you want to separate the good from the bad, figure out where the trader resides. edited to add: You can't illegalize something that is global. You can short-sell GM in China and Italy. Same with the Dollar _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

Nope. Just another form of speculation. It's no less a thing than buying stock in hoping it increases in value. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

Depends how you look at it. Violence is way down here. But non-hostile fatalities are going to be the same. Therefore the percentages are going to be high. Or: Violence is way down here. People are bored. Its the end of the Tour for a lot of people. Mistakes are going to be made. Therefore the percentages are going to be high. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

Anything to keep you Leathernecks guessing The crossing the equator isn't originally a Naval observance. It started with the merchant ships hundreds of years ago. Back then it was good luck to pay homage to King Neptune before we could cross his equator. and umm. . .we need the excuse to abuse the new guys. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

It's not that at all. It's a lot of veterans and active duty types that worked hard, gone into danger, achieving a considerable amount. . .and then having someone claiming to be a part of that. It's mocking to some, it cheapening the tour for others. 12 years in the Navy. Served on the USS Clark, Laboon, Monterey, Thach. Presently with 4bde/3id BSTB, Rte Clearance with Echo 3/7 and 2/502 engineer companies. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

I doubt your percieved control in this thread. You do not have the joystick. You are the one on the defensive. What is so hard about answering the question. Which branch were you kicked out of? _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

I say he was kicked out because he couldn't hack it. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

Agreed. I know very few people who don't own stocks or have some sort of retirement fund. I have been in some of those Social services offices (Not for myself, I have an irresponsible sister) and all I see are a bunch of fat people and fat kids. Definitely not starving Seriously, you have to work hard to be that unsuccessful as not to afford any of this. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

I don't get the black hole stuff. I'm ignorant in physics, but I always thought of a black hole as a huge mass that collapsed (3+ solar mass Tolman-Oppenheimer-Volkoff limit?) because of gravity exceeding forces that would have prevented electron degereration at a rate that the collapse became infinite. So, is this collapse coming from the masses being "banged", or is this a naked singularity, or is this Star Trek gone batnuts? _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

Besides, those dots on their foreheads are cute. "You are here." India isn't anywhere close to Iran or North Korea. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

It may be easier to draft a waiver than rewrite a whole treaty that everyone has to sign again. Maybe it's that simple. India definitely needs the fuel. Their navy is expanding nuke-wise also. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

I've been to three of them so far. I'll be missing this one because my R&R starts a week after. You would have more fun going there if you are not dick swinging. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

Why is this substandard way of speaking becoming more prevalent?

These kids don't know better. . .yet. I believe you see a symptom. I believe I see learning going on here. The teachers are rejecting the papers after all. That's the problem I see here. You are making huge assumptions on their train of thought. When you are talking to these people next time, pay attention to your body language. It speaks louder than your words most of the time. You may inadverdently be making negative signals. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln -

So you are approving the "elitism" that you think you are providing against the illiterate. Aren't you afraid they are going to accuse you of keeping them "down"? Isn't this what you don't like? Sounds like you just need a reason to bitch and hate. When the junior types talk to me, they use the formal voice. When they talk to their peers, they use their language most similar to their culture. The kids today seem to know transition than you give them credit for. For a while, they weren't in dictionaries. Maybe "fo-shizzle will be in the "F" section next year. No, it won't happen. Too Clive Cussler-esque. Civilization collapsing around because of people who don't have the initiative and drive to persue an education demanding to be in charge: too bad-fiction. The literate will be able to easily displace someone like that way before he rises to power. Nope. There is a right way to talk to people; to help them learn to talk correctly to certain types of people without insulting and pissing them off. If they are offended, it's because you offended them. They dont think you are credible enough to warrant the right language. They think you are "down at their level". _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln
