I agree with Quade...Mini-DV tapes are cheap. I'm looking at my wall right now and I have over 60. Most of them shot at SP speed. I'm still trying to figure out how I want to archive "final edits" though. Use tapes...they're cheap! Scott I read somewhere to learn is to remember and I've learned we all forgot

Wet canopy at a pond swoop comp
xheadrasta replied to CanEHdian's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
You actaully read the bottle Chris?? :) Scott I read somewhere to learn is to remember and I've learned we all forgot -
Mark, I was in the same boat you are with the openings on my Stiletto. I just put the first 3 jumps on my new Crossfire2 119 on Saturday and I am simply amazed at the openings! They are 600ft or better AND it is brand new! It reminds me of the Stilettos of ol'. Demo everything you can get your hands on. It's a blast checking 'em all out. How much do you load your reserve?
xheadrasta replied to deurich2003's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
That's pretty typical of one of the two reactions I get. No matter what size your reserve, you had better be willing to do a down-wind landing in the worst conditions. Shit happens. I would MUCH rather be prepared, know what I'm capable of, and what my gear is capable of before I end up needing it. 500 feet is not the time were we should be wondering "Hmm. I wonder if I can pull this off....." More importantly, now I have a pretty good idea of how much "runway" I need to pull off that particular manuever. It ended up being quite a bit more then I would have guessed. _Am Andy, I agree with you about demoing the type of reserve you will be using. I think everyone should do this. I have and always will when I chose a reserve. My concern would be...what happens if you are unconcious? Knowing how you can land your reserve downwind is a good thing but what happens when you have no control? If we could have our choice I'd prefer a PD-210 over my head as my reserve. But a Vector3 with a Xfire 119 and a PD-210 would look awfully ugly! So I load my 160 @ 1.4. :) Blue Skies, Scott I read somewhere to learn is to remember and I've learned we all forgot -

Change video Orientation in Premiere

I always thought it would be cool if you could do this "in camera"! Wouldn't it be nice to take a "PC" style camera and lay it on it's side and have the footage come out right-side-up?! Scott I read somewhere to learn is to remember and I've learned we all forgot -

Heh, my new canopy is a white top skin and royal blue ribs and bottom skin with white stabs. I can't wait until it gets here! Only a week or so left! Scott I read somewhere to learn is to remember and I've learned we all forgot

Chad, I dont know how long you have been jumping but when the Stiletto was first realeased it was an awesome opener. In fact, it sniveled so much that some non-camera flyers were starting to bitch about the 1000 to 1200 foot openings they were getting. I for one bought my first Stiletto 135 on the premise of awesomely long openings and I got them! A few years later I had gained some weight and sold the 135 and bought the 150 that I have now. It has been pretty unpredictable with the openings since day one. They are survivable but after awhile they just started to hurt and I hated guessing what my opening might be every time I pitched the pilotchute. Especially with a camera helmet on. Packing has had pretty much no effect on the openings. So after 3 years of being slammed whenever the canopy felt like slamming me I gave up. I'm now the proud owner of a Crossfire2 119! Hopefully, it will be here this week or next!!! Scott I read somewhere to learn is to remember and I've learned we all forgot

I've had a lot of bad luck with my Stiletto 150. I'm in the same boat as you are except only SkyGod777 can pack it to open worth a shit. If I or anyone else packs it, it is horrible and unpredictable. Kinda like the lottery :) Back in '99 or so I had a 135 and it opened like a dream. 700 to 1000 foot snivels every time. I seem to think that somewhere in PDs "continuing improvements" to the Stiletto they actually sped up the openings. Now to the point that they sometimes "crack the whip" so-to-speak. After several hard openings in a row last season I emailed them and had them send me trim measurements. It wasn't too far off but I sent it back anyway. When they called me they said it wasnt out that far and I asked if that could cause the hard openings they said "possibly" so I had them do the re-line. The day I go to the DZ with the new reline a buddy was putting a few jumps on his 135 with new lines and blows it up! I mean it rips two holes in the bottom skin that are about 3 foot long along the rib seams. My first couple of jumps weren't too bad. Then it got back into it's old habbits again. So I had them send me a bigger slider and it worked for a while, in fact, a couple of the openings on the new slider were reminiscent of my old 135! But alas, it was not meant to be. It still opens hard from time to time. So I got tired of it and ordered a Crossfire2 with it's openings that remind me of the Stiletto's of old. I got mine yesterday and watched it all the way through last night. It is very well put together. The music is pretty kick-ass! I like the shots of the ceremonies of each comp. The only thing I wish it had was interviews. I want to be able to know how the guys/gals felt and hear their comments after each round. Or at least after each competetion. How about sticking the pvc in the ground and then marking it with paint or something. At the end of the weekend just pull up the PVC and it will be marked for the following weekend. I'm sure that Jim would at least let you mark the locations wouldn't he? I'll be anxious to swoop your course when we get over there for the ISL. What kind of Mini-DV tapes do you recommend and/or use?
xheadrasta replied to scottbre's topic in Photography and Video
Iwan, Be careful switching between brands of tapes. Each manufacturer "supposedly" uses different and/or varying quantities of lubricant. Mixing brands can gum up the heads and rollers. This will most certainly cause you artifacting and the like. Just my .02. Personally, I, like the other guys get my tape stock from Tape Resources and use only Sony Premium's. Pick up a pint of AfterShock!! Nice and cool going down and then a little bit-o-warmth in your belly. Just awesome stuff! Scott I read somewhere to learn is to remember and I've learned we all forgot

I cant make a comparison but I did just purchase a Crossfire2 119. I got tired of waiting on the Katana release. Although I trust PD more than any other manufacturer to R&D the heck out of product, I wasn't going to buy something I haven't jumped. Guys..I would not trust one thing coming out of Braodway Photo. Please save yourselves alot of headaches and use a more reputable dealer. I personally use b&h photo. Just an FYI here...if you have the "Out of the Blue" dvd from Team Extreme you can see a rear riser stall @ the 18minute 45second mark. It is amazing at how abrupt and quick the stall happens. I'm not sure which pilot it is but it's interesting to watch it frame by frame. Scott I read somewhere to learn is to remember and I've learned we all forgot
