  1. got 1 jump in with a buddy in his viper, me in my apache x. he had less than 5 jumps on it, tho thousands of wing suit jumps. got out of the plane after him and was still workin my way down to him when he started to really fly the suit so took me a second to match him and ended up just below him. my fly sight, which is set to 3.5, was giving me the 'victory tone' and he didnt pull away for about 20-30 seconds of that going on then all the sudden he found a sweet spot and started to pull away from me vertically and horizontally! im a bit taller but also probably 40 pounds heavier with a much thinner air foil , so my suit likes to build a bit more speed before going for my most efficient flight but i was still nothing but impressed with what i saw from that suit...cant wait for mine!
  2. viper wins in surface area for sure. i cant count how many times colugo pilots have asked me to lay their suit over mine....my 3 year old apache x is 1 cell bigger in the arms and slightly bigger tail. rebel even larger and cant comment on the aura but according to pics its just 1 cell bigger than the colugo....however, inflation is a much more in depth story than surface area. the jedi i flew was rebel sized suit with a very different air foil. either way, looks like julian boulle, jhonny florez, and a few other pilots still agree that the apache x is still tony's best creation. very impatiently waiting my viper!
  3. if i were a fish id bite an apple
  4. wait wait...what if we did helium....or no, better yet, hydrogen AND bong rips
  5. hmmm bong rip inflated wingsuit. genius
  6. hang gliders / paragliders work off thermals generated by the sun heating the earth and riding that particular column of hot air rising. a hot air balloon works by filling (going off the hot air balloon i ground crew for and jump out of) filling a 90,000 cubic foot envelope and using a 15,000,000 BTU burner (the pilot i work uses 2 of those burners.) that 90,000 cubic foot envelope will get about 1500lbs buoyant at about 200 degrees inside the envelope and 50 degrees outside temp. a ~300fpm climb with that much weight and those outside temps will happen at about 240 degrees inside the envelope. 250 is red line. in short...give me some of what you're smoking
  7. I am still curious if they really also ban tracking jumps and if so, what are they trying to make better......not landing off? Thanks, Dan yes tracking as well as wingsuiting has been fired. and as with most everything else, because bill said so. a girl with 100ish jumps hooked into the grapes trying to make it back rather than chosing a safe out (she flew too wide of a pattern (tracking) and was afraid of getting fired for landing out.) so with that fact, your guess is as good as mine as to why bill got rid of tracking jumps. cloverdale is doing 15$ jump tickets thru july 7th though, come on out :)
  8. Thanks for the info 2 chops in 2 days. Bill ended up saying wingsuits aren't meant for skydiving and if you're looking for more of a thrill go play In the freeway etc etc A colugo pilot with a short bridle - chopped Ws pilot jumpin with a crossfire - chopped Both landed in the main Landing area
  9. im really looking forward to some insight from someone with a lot of apache experience. my order went in as soon as my dealer could get me the order form. no one has been able to give me a solid review, though i probably dont know the right people either...and havnt seen any demos around lodi. (btw wingsuits were fired last week, havnt heard of that changing anytime soon) i have flown the squirrel, rebel and the new stuff tony is working on and nothing has convinced me to buy (currently been flying a pre production apache x.) im taking a gamble and hoping phoenix fly hit the nail on the head with viper.
  10. i ordered a pair and a set of demos showed up at our dz. i put 2 jumps on them and cancelled my order. ...fly sight.
  11. the fly sight is definitely a good tool for someone to progress...best next to trying to keep up with the best pilot at break off. i put 2 jumps on a pair of demo flight huds we had at lodi and cancelled my order
  12. shouldnt the fact you had inches of foam in your v4 booties so you could fly it be a side note nick? the v4 is the easiest suit i have flown that is considered "experienced pilots only."
  13. Yeah I finally heard from them on FB...some serious bruising on a few people though!
  14. http://www.hawaiinewsnow.com/story/20632978/skydivers-injured-on-the-north-shore im looking for some info on this accident for a friend. he seems pretty concerned for the lady and believes it may be a good friend of his. if you would like to keep it private, please PM me any info you can.
  15. sounds like you are off to a good start! is this going to be a flash style game or download content? how about ability to use a controller? i think a game like this would be nice to have the ability to use a controller so you arent constantly tapping buttons to try and dial in angle of attack, turning and things like that. i suppose using the mouse would work well too. i think a constant tapping of keys would ruin a game like this.
  16. i think it would be awesome to have a good WS game to kill time with. being able to explore any line possible rather than the go "through the rings" style would be much cooler IMO. earn points to catch a heli lift to explore more bigger cooler lines, etc :)
  17. Head down speed is meaningless in talking about suit performance. Using that criterion I easily beat your wing suit in my RW suit. What we really need to know is sustained steady state horizontal speed after correction for wind speed. you either missed the point or decided to spin the information to your favor. i never said my head down speed was 180+, thats silly to boast vertical speed and the contour doesnt read vertical speed anyway i went head down in order to achieve that speed horizontally... thanks for word medusa...medusa is without a doubt a better pilot than me and knows that im not bullshitting. i hate to keep this internet fiasco going so just come on out to lodi and we'll go do some jumps :)
  18. sorry for hijacking the living fuck out of your thread hjumper. ive jumped both and my opinion is above. nick, where have you come up with that contour does 3d speed only? if that were the case id expect to see a lot higher speeds than ~70mph at pull time. i havnt been able to find anything about that. it did get an update a while ago and does 4hz now...well at least its an option when setting up the camera. (not talking about the contour + ) im always down for a race...dont really have a suit that would make things equal for a ghost but whatevers clever...you get your v3 yet?
  19. "so either the gps is dead wrong or you were diving the crap out of that suit. " your investigating skills are good but did you not catch the whole "head down" part? i was going for that tandem you can see in the picture. i watched the drogue all the way til the canopy popped and then went head down and stooped past em. you can discredit me all you want, i dont care. but now why dont you try to discredit the 167mph in a v3 (who wasnt ever head down prior...)because that was from a fly sight? the record forward speed in a wingsuit is already almost 300km/h...id bet there are even faster people out there as well.
  20. its after going head down for a few thousand feet and leveling out smoothly. im not saying it was maintained or a max glide speed. anyway, im not going to try and convince people on the internet that this is possible. come see for yourself. ill be in lodi a lot this winter. by the way, i have a buddy with a 167mph reading from a fly sight in a v3
  21. i figured that would be your response. let me know if you ever show up in lodi.
  22. contour gps. if people were getting only 120 after a dive then you really arent going to belive my gps lost signal at over 180mph forward speed and it was still going up.
  23. i dont have a fly sight so i couldnt give you glide info. i am 6ft and 190lbs tho. and everything ive heard about the apache is the x is different.
  24. i should have clarified...x = apache x. i dont have a flysight but i do have a contour gps. 140 isnt hard to achieve. last balloon jump i was getting 120 maxing out my glide with a 10mph head wind. not sure how strong the winds were closer to the ground but at 4000 the balloon was movin away from the launch point (where i was flying to) at 12mph.
  25. i personally thought that the rebel required a little more from the pilot, had way better slow speed capabilities, characteristics, lift, and a little slower than the x. id say the x to the rebel is the v4 to the venom (not saying an apache x is equal to a v4.) if i want to turn and burn ill grab the x, for xrw ill grab the rebel. i say tony did a good job with the rebel while still offering the x.
