hm. i'm a little concerned about the cold and the falling down all day, but i'm willing to give it a try. plus, a certain freefly hottie will be my teacher, so i can't really go wrong. can always go in and have some hot cocoa and warm up by the fire!
  4. That's really interesting. I hadn't heard of the HSLDA. Sounds very worth while. I can imagine the frustration interfering neighbors could cause. That would drive me crazy. Anyway, good for you for homeschooling. I don't think I agree with the punishment factor, but that's very personal. Then again, I should wait until I have kids of my own before I declare my position. IMO, which is not accompanied by a whole lot of experience, there are many more peaceful ways to discipline a child than with phyical punishment.

    Weather sux

ha! we have great weather in michigan! today i woke up and thought the thermometer was broken since there was no reading.... wrong. it was really just zero degrees out. now it's warmed up to a hearty 9 degrees. wooooooooooohoooooooooooo! next weekend i'm going to learn how to snowboard. heaven help me.
  6. That's one thing that always concerned me about home schooling. Seems like the kids would be sheltered not being exposed to others value systems....or lack there of. Hey Clay, I had the SAME concerns... about socialization for the kids. That's a very common concern - and it makes a lot of sense. My sister decided to homeschool her two children. Kai just turned five and he has the development both socially and intellectually of an 8 or 9 year old. My sister lives in a cohousing community (intentional community where people choose to live there because they want interaction with their neighbors). In the community, there are about 10 children who are being homeschooled. The parents put activities together with the children and they've even started a community soccer team. I think the idea of homeschooling is amazing. Definately frustrating at times, there are many walls to run into along the way. The homeschooling parents need to be very involved and very patient. If I have the opportunity when I have children, I too will homeschool.

  13. The best one for me this year.... My brand-new Russian sister-in-law is learning to speak English. She's very good, but very formal. She doesnt' really "get" slang yet. We were drinking. My mother started talking about gambling and slot machines. She was going on about "nickle slots" and "quarter slots." My sister-in-law turned BRIGHT RED and started to laugh. Then she began to babble to her husband (my bro) in Russian. I've never laughed so hard in my life... I was in absolute tears. She thought my mother was talking about "nickle SLUTS" and "quarter SLUTS" and couldn't figure out how someone could be that cheap! Sooooooo... what was YOUR most ridiculous holiday conversation????

  16. Wow. Thank you soooooo much everybody for your responses. They are so helpful. I thought it might be PAL, but I wasn't sure... and my brother had no idea at all. I tried to change the DVD player to Region 2, but it wasn't an option in the Setup menu. Next, I'm going to try to change the computer settings. The idea for getting a multi-version dvd player is great too! I think I'll wait and do that as a last resort. Again, thanks so much. This should definately help.

  21. ha ha.... i am NOT anymore at all... i swear!.... but in high school, they used to refer to me as "The Queen of the Hippies." My best friend Bryan was "The King of the Hippies." I don't know if I would call that popular in the commonly known sense, but we were popular among the hippies! Seriously... I swear I'm not a hippy anymore!

  23. Most would be insulted, but he is the greatest cartoon character of all time, so that's not so bad! That could be a thread in itself...best simpsons quote. There is absolutly NO insult intended. Homer is my hero. I don't like donuts. I wish I could be more like Homer.
  24. Wow, Vallerina, come to think of it... you and Homer have a LOT in common. See, here's proof: Dear Homer, IOU one emergency donut. Signed Homer. Bastard! He's always one step ahead. --Homer Simpson Donuts. Is there anything they can't do? --Homer Simpson Mmmm, forbidden donut. --Homer Simpson Mr. Scorpio says productivity is up 2%, and it's all because of my motivational techniques, like donuts and the possibility of more donuts to come. --Homer Simpson This donut has purple in the middle, purple is a fruit. --Homer Simpson
