  4. There are many ways but here are 2 I would use for different situations. 1. Large Flock I would de-arch my hips slightly and hug "my balls" to pop up (after checking above me for others) on level with the group and drive forward to hit my slot. 2. Small Flock I usually drive forward with my legs and a neutral to slightly de-arched body position gaining glide ratio as I close in to the others (essentially performance flying to them) I don't like doing this with large groups because you increase your speed to the group and more flyers mean more unpredictability when coming from beneth them. I'm sure Spot will chime in but in the mean time: All planes that are safe for RW jumpers are safe to jump any wingsuit as long as you keep the wings closed down for the appropriate amount of time on exit with the appropriate exit form. In reality you exit just like a regular RW jump when the wings are closed down. If you have problems closing down the wings for a safe an appropriate exit then you need to seek out coaching.   9. Tail strike at Skydive Miami this year with guy in a X-Bird. He had a beautiful exit on video :) and just happened to hit the tail. He injured his leg if I remember right. I won't forget this one bc I carted all my gear down there for a medical course and wingsuiting just happened to be banned right when I arrived. Priceless. Base# 1638

Last year I almost hit another wingsuiter (15 WS jumps) deploying his canopy during breakoff because he never learned to wave off in a wingsuit from some "I've done 20 WS jumps let me teach you how to WS" guy. Needless to say I ripped in to him and I don't think he'll not wave off again. Base# 1638

  14. I scotch guard all my suits. I let a friend jump my phantom2 once and he slightly turfed it (of course) and amazingly the scotch guard worked. I did get a beer out of the deal though:) Base# 1638

  16. I am an orthopaedic surgeon who skydives. I don't obviously know your specific spinal state, and i'm not here to give you an official opinion. The reality is you have a very non-flexible fused spine (if all went as planned), likely from your thoracic spine to mid to lower lumbar. In general there are no restrictions with regards to daily activities and basic sporting events (again if your spine has successfully fused), but realize you are taking more of a chance in this environment. Chances are you would be fine but spine flexability is tested alot when loaded in the parachute deployment phase of skydiving and if you experience a harder than normal landing. In the end it is your decision and you have to weight the risks as we all do when we jump out of an airplane. I would say your risks are mildly higher if your condition is excellent without issue. I wish I could give you a more specific yes or no answer but "I can't" and it's likely no other orthopedic provider will. Mark Base# 1638
  17. Most of my wingsuit flight are out of a C182 so here is my take. I don't personally like the standard poised exit because of the point you made about the tail (but it obviously can be done). I have two ways I get out; it depends on if I'm doing a 2 way wingsuit jump or not. If I'm solo I put my left foot on the step while holding the door frame with my hands (trying to stay out of the moving air). I position my body so when I push off my direction is a 45 degree angle to the direction of flight and about 15 degrees down past the strut. I keep the wings shut down for a count of one and when I open my wings I weathervain nicely into the relative air.I jump a V4 out this way and have never come close to the tail as well as friends with X-birds, venoms ect. If your doing a 2 way it gets a little more involved. The first bird goes on the step with hands on the strut to keep the wings shut down (make sure the pilot slows the plane down b/c it can be quite hard to hold on and hitting the tail could occur if you are ripped off unstable, and take your time). I also keep my left shoulder toward the prop so the wind does not take advantage of the air intakes on the suit (inflating the wings) and I keep a slight squated position. When exiting the outside bird pushes off the step in the same direction I described above. The bird in the plane exits just as he would during a solo exit. Just my 2 cents. I hope this helps
  18. I just can't get enough. Like other things in my life I can assure you flying my V4 is the pinnacle for me, but as Spot said I have to come down to reality once in awhile. I guess you could compare this situation to cars. If you had the keys to a new shiny red ferrari in one hand and the keys to a nice honda accord in the other and had to decide which one to drive, which one would you choose?
