  1. I teach 6 classes a year of 30 to 50 students each class. I mention skydiving and many are interested. Then they try to get a group and pick a day. Needless to say, less then 2% ever show up. I no longer bring it up. Just adding what you already know anyways. It is a lifestyle. Those that choose it, find us! Stay Safe. . . .Bill
  2. Real cheap -baggy military camo pants (BDUs). They work well, cost almost nothing and depending on the camo pattern, don't look too bad. Just a thought that I have seen many times.

    What is carving?

Thanks, now I know! Or is it nice roast beef? Thanks again. Stay Safe
  4. I remember my first 10 - 15 bad landings. It does make you apprehensive. Get someone to watch/video your landings. It helps a lot more then it costs. I took Scott Miller's canopy control course and it was well worth the cost. Plus a small prayer can't hurt. Hang in there and good luck.

    What is carving?

I am new to Free Flying; what is carving? Thanks
  6. Hi: Been there done that. I know you didn't mean you really had a choice. But, I too, have heard that "little voice" saying Why? But a save is a save and who knows what may happen to Joe. A friend once told me; "Never kick a bum in the butt, you never know where he will land." Ya did good
  7. Good for you. I am glad your dream came true. Now be safe, learn more, and have fun! Job well done!
  8. Congrats!! I remember seeing those 3 words in my log book = hoo rah! You can even hear the "A" license knocking at your door.

    Stable sit

I think the best sit fly advice I got was from John Winkler "Wink". He said get the mind set of feet flying. Keep your feet under you and you will go in the direction of your feet. It worked for me. What a kick when it worked. The best follow up to this was doing a sit with the Golden Knights 2 weeks ago with video by Wink. It is a great rush when you do finally get it. Congrats!!!
  10. If you are not falling way faster, try leaving your jumpsuit unzipped to about the chest strap. When I was experiencing a shrinking jump suit, I did this often and it worked. Also, of course, don't look up at formation. Look to the side as you try to get back up.
  11. Great pic! Loved the toilet seat sun glasses. They should charge them 20 a head to stare!
  12. Meghan: Sounds like a good deal. The small rent would help cement an adult relation. Having done the "live back with folks" thing; I would suggest just talking about potential snags once you move in. Up front about your coming and going, your social life, etc. will all be a plus after you move in. It is an outstanding offer from your parents to help you catch your dream. Good luck, and let us know!. . .Bill
  13. Pretty neat. Thanks for sharinig.
  14. Along time friend of mine is an ortho surgeon. He always says, pain and discomfort will answer his patients questions. He firmly believes in his patients doing what "they" feel capable of doing. As long as the TM knows ahead of time and your friend keeps his arms folded in front, all should be well. Best luck to him!
  15. Hey Chris: Thanks for your input. I am not a pilot, but always find your definitions helpful and easy to understand. Thanks. . . . Bill
  16. Ahhhh very true. Along with "unless you are the lead dog, the view don't change" Good point. I meant "generally" when appropriate keeping eye contact. Thanks
  17. Glad you are okay. All the mental prep pays off. Knowledge is not only power, it can save your life.
  18. Skydiving is my hobby and sport. Like anything important, I save for jumping, plan money for jumping. Little else takes precident over jumping. So what if I have no phone, water or electricity? Jump!
  19. Mine have been launched on exit. Only once in free fall, when the rider came in from above in freefall. They are fun though!
  20. Great news. I may just make it there this week end from Ohio. Look forward to meeting you guys.
  21. I have one of those enhanced units. It never really goes to zero. Best I can do is + or - 10 feet. Then when I land, it almost always says 100+ feet. It is just a tool.. I should have stuck with the tried and true 100 foot increments and not the 10 foot. My old Alt 2 still works great. Good luck, and let me know if you find a cure.
  22. Hi Fred: I feel fast when I started. Time and experience helped alot. Mostly body position and very patient experienced jumpers. Hang in there, it gets better.
  23. I can only speak for myself. When I concentrate on good eye contact, the whole jump goes better. From exit to break off.
  24. I thought night jumps were great. I vividly remember my first couple. They are a blast - to me. Know the DZ you are jumping. Stagger openings and make 2 passes. the second jump at night offers a great opportunity to be under canopy and take in the sights. Enjoy!
  25. Line twists will vary. Like so much, it is experience. I know; where do you get experience? Each canopy/load will vary and determine your actions. Funny, life gives the test first and then the lesson. skydiving depends on "what your canopy will do". Keep asking and listening. it will help.
