  1. PD sent me a Storm to demo for a few weeks and it came in yesterday. I have always heard people talk about packing a NEW canopy. I cannot believe how slippery this SOB is
  2. thats what got me into skydiving, I was in vegas for my birthday and my wife told me that i should do the SkyJump. They were having some troubles and said it would be 5 or 6 hours. So my wife bought me a tandem jump in Eloy the next weekend

  14. I have spent a couple of days learning how to pack and I could not believe how exhausted I was at the end of the day. Not to mention how sore my legs were from squeezing and controlling the d-bag trying to get the damn thing closed enough to get in the container. Its not easy learning how to pack a fairly new 210. In the end, I learned a lot about packing and how much I was not going to enjoy the continued learning and fine tuning of packing. But, welcome to another fun part of skydiving Good to know, ill be packing a 230..... Yay. Shit ill just downsize to a 150 so it will be quicker to pack... Hell I got 37 jumps
  15. At my DZ, the rent per jump (not per day). So technically, if I am to put the rig back on the rack, it has to be packed by a packer. Usually when I go in, I take a rig off the rack and keep it to the side. I then talk to the AFF instructors and Manifest and tell them I have it, and if someone needs it to let me know so that it can be repacked by a packer before use. They usually never need it and I get to practice packing. Final pack job still has to be done by a packer though. In short, talk to the people at your DZ, they will probably be pretty accommodating if you tell them you want to practice packing on the rental gear when you use it. The rental gear where i jump is handed out unpacked and turned back in unpacked. Im gonna find some people at the dz to help me learn to pack. I was thinking about hanging out all day not jumping just packing.
  16. Ah good to see another brick like myself
  17. You are all correct, learning to pack should have been a priority before now, Not to mention paying the packer at the end of the day is getting kinda pricey. I was under the impression that the rental gear had to be packed by a rigger. I just called them and I was wrong. There are alot of helpful people at the DZ i jump at who im sure would be willing to give a newbie a hand. Thanks for all your replies
  18. With your experience, odds are that when you put your right hand behind you... you are actually causing some instability issue you are not detecting at this point. You may either be starting to turn or go a bit head down...or both. If you are actually pulling the hackey and holding the pilot-chute of a couple seconds you are priming the cannon for an out of sequence deployment. You recent line twist problem could very well be from doing that. I do not pull then hold it a couple seconds i hold the hackey a couple seconds then throw it, Will this cause the same?
  19. Thanks for the reply, Why? what kinda problems am i setting myself up for?
  20. I do not pack yet, Im still renting gear, I may be picking up a used rig here soon. Then i can really learn with repetitive packing. I took a packing class to get my A. but that doesnt mean i know what im doing. It very well could have been body position but lately when i grab my hackey ill hold it for a second or two to make sure im very stable then throw it.
  21. deployed at 4000, It came out spinning, and ep's were done at about 2800. It was flying semi straight but not at all stable. I dont believe i could have flown it in
  22. I know there is a ton of threads on cutaways but I have 37 jumps and just had my second reserve ride. The first was a lineover on #23 and Sunday on jump 37 i had a line twist. When it happened i said to myself "cool its only a twist" but damn i couldn't even count how many it had. I was able to kick out of 3 or 4 of them but quickly realized i was fighting a losing battle. I was disappointed that i had to cutaway on a line twist. How many of you guys have had to cut on a twist? Im still renting gear and this was the first time ive flown this chute, a sabre 230. It just seemed to come out mad.
