  1. RI made our wraps for all of our rigs - 2 Wings, Jav, Infinity. They were (April 07) just getting started with making them so we left our rigs with them for 1/2 a day during our off day on the training camp (Eloy) while they took the measurements. At the time they were getting started with them and building up a database of rig sizes but still needed the actual rigs to make them. They may have more experience now and be able to do them with just the container size.
  2. We were really happy with ours. Made tunnel training much more realistic, as well as a lot more physically demanding. It also made going in the tunnel much nicer once we'd taken the rigs off
  3. You may be disapointed in not being able to backfly or sitfly yet. If you go back again and watch beginner tunnel fliers (experienced freeflying skydivers) learn to sit, you may get more appreciation of why the tunnel ask you to demonstrate each level before moving on to the next one. Being in control in a sit in the tunnel is much more than being in control in the sky. I'd expect to need way more than another 3 - 400 before being able to sitfly in there (but then you may be very good) Personally I much prefer bedford to airkix, only been in airkix a couple of times though. Seemed more catering to wuffos than to skydivers (which is fair enough if they want to target that market - leaves time in bedford more accessible for us)
  4. sorry, that's what I meant, just stops at 8998 each time and shuts down I was quite happy to jump mine without also, except I was at an AAD only DZ. Was on a canopy course as well so I was less likely to need it either. Still the DZO lent me his container so all was good.
  5. I had a set fail in the same way at about the same age / number of jumps. I explained to my rigger who contacted Airtec and they gave me a new set. IIRC once 8998 has been given the cypres won't fireup again until the batteries have been replaced, even if it's warmed up since. (Not seen that written down but was told when it happened.)
  6. Tony de Bruyn has a couple (2 at least, might be a third) Skyvans available if that's not too big. They've been floating around the UK in the summer for the last couple of years. I didn't find a contact number from a quick bit of googling though it looks like the company name is Eureka Aviation. You should be able to get contact details through BPS Langar in the UK as they've had the planes in a few times in the last couple of years (as have Netheravon, Sibson and Weston as well)
  7. I had a trainee instructor friend teach me for a day. Was really helpful doing 1 on 1 instruction for that first morning. By the afternoon I was going ok on the green slopes although still falling over lots. Early lessons was the best for me. I was used to skiing though After a week though I got fed up with the occasional falls and put the skis back on and didn't regret it at all
  8. Odd, I have 1800+ jumps and 30 hours of belly fly tunnel - never feel like I'm wasting my time~ Seriously, tunnel is an awesome tool to use for improving skydiving skills. Tunnel instructors, as professionals in their discipline, will have plenty of experience, enough to coach you in the earlier stages of skydiving. As you get more experienced and better then you may more require the extra skill levels of other coaches.
  9. Can only directly compare Katana to Crossfire 2. Borrowed a Xfire from a friend and alternated between the 2 at the same size on 2 training camps this year and much preferred the Katana. Just my 2p
  10. some you suspect that skyventure would design a tunnel just slightly larger than bedford just so that they could claim the largest title back
  11. If your phone has java (most vaugely recent ones will do) then DiveGen will do you draws and has all the blocks and randoms in it. Handy for a bit of visualising when you have a few spare minutes. Does Rookie, A, AA and AAA draws.
  12. Skyleague doesn't include the international results on its highest scores but a couple of UK teams did some hugely impressive results last year with the same pool as the US UK records BodyFlight Frenzy 8 rnd Avg 19.83 100% Single round score 24 (100% reformed with 2 new members for 2007 as Sonic V, stepped up a class and have the A record as well with 14.5)
  13. Is this a case for having devices that are nice and simple and do 1 job?
  14. UK will be there in force in Rookie, A, AA. We're trying to get some AAA representation though Hopefully we will though and make it a competition for the Spirit.
  15. yep, will be there for the 2nd weekend. Should be pretty busy with the Brit Chicks there and Milkos big ways
  16. I really like NSL / ESL concept. I'd hate to lose it. Allowing other countries to use the weekend draw early is OK but they must accept that they have it early and take efforts to keep it concealed - putting it on your website is completely out of order. Teams, and their coaches, competing that weekend should not be looking around at other competitions / websites occuring in the week. If you see a draw done in the week you certainly shouldn't use that as a practice draw, random draws are so easy to make if you are practicing and there are plenty of previous ones available if you want to compare. If you as a team member or a coach do happen to become aware of a draw that might be the draw for the weekend then you should step away from deciding on any prep dives that you do. If on receiving the draw you realise that you have practiced it then you should bring it to the attention of the judges immediately rather than allowing jumping to start and then to be thrown out.
  17. The tunnel rats turned the power right down last week and threw a little water in. They could keep the drops hovering by turning it up or down a bit. Very cool to watch.
  18. How about 500 jumps and 500 mins verses 1000 jumps and no tunnel?
  19. Which squares pretty well with the BPA minimum opening height for demo jumps - 1500ft (and you can do that with a C-licence) BPA C license = 500 jumps USPA D = 500 jumps (and a bunch of other things that BPA doesn't require)
  20. I vaugely remember a case of a mismanufactured container where the stitching had not been done, only glued. Not sure when that was spotted - during assembly at least you'd hope.
  21. Fab comp, great to be able to see that last Airspeed round from 2 meters away
  22. March generally sucks for weather, April isn't much better but then summer kicks in. If you regularly get to the DZ then you will get to jump. Nice thing about starting now is that you have the whole summer ahead of you, beats starting in September!
  23. Might there be something in this that is worth considering rather than immediately dismissing it. Comparing Eloys statistics with Empuriabravas on www.skydivingfatalities.info shows 19 vs 8. Both of these are very large, very busy dropzones doing a comparable number of jumps per year (I believe that Empuria was 130000+ jumps last year, I don't know Eloys numbers) with a large number of the jumpers being visitors rather than regular "club" jumpers. Should we not consider if there is a way of improving the DZ. For starters having the 2 landing areas at right angles to each other can cause a conflict in the setup points if the winds is in a particular direction. The first jumper down set the landing direction rule can cause problems if a jumper spirals down and sets up against the direction most people are set up for. Both of these scenarios happened while I was there last year. No real problem caused as everyone was aware but the dz setup didn't help the issue. edit to fix clicky - Craig
  24. So go for it, jack yourself up in debt and try. But until you try don't critize those that do put the effort in and do it. Anyone can really try to do it. It depends how much you want it and how much you are willing to sacrifice to get it. That said you can try, you may not succeed. She has tried and she has succeeded. For that she should be applauded rather than criticized.
  25. Are there any videos around yet? I haven't noticed them on skyleague or omniskore
