I am pretty sure this isn't a coaching site. but if you want opinions and more comments on the way it was performed I would recommend you to have outside video about 50 ft past the gates and 50 feet perpendicular also, make sure they tape all.the way from before you do your set up, since it is pretty important to all ays fly a predictable pattern specially when you are swooping.

connect the two disconnect lines at each end connected them to one in the center and then you only need to find the center one to pull both at the same time. i have something similar but other jumper at my dz got his done with the above added and is really nice.

I have an Ourogan Sky/tunnel suit. Have about 400 jumps in it and 6 hrs in the tunnel Still looks and fly as new. Except on the butt because of landings, but the cordura helped with that

I have jump a few Javelin, Reflex(I know) Wings and Curv. The Curv is far the most comfortable rig I have worn it really doesn't interfere with any body position needed for skydiving and you barely feel is pack, it also really easy to see if the closing loop have been miss routed and the view for the aad is nice as well beside all other bells and whistles(such as the grippers on the handles and freefly pouch). Also, how the free bag is design, you can put a two size bigger reserve of what is indicated in the chart (I have a Micro Raven 150 and it says it can fit an Optimum 143) Had a cuttaway already and it was fine). I would say try to jump as many of the options you have and buy whatever feels more comfortable and affordable(I think most of modern rigs passed the safe concerns at this stage).

Flying the p*ss out of a canopy.
Pablo.Moreno replied to DocPop's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
I practice with gates, but if you aren't planing on competing, at least be consistent on your line of flight by flying your pattern consistently. -
Sabre 2 twitchy with brakes stowed
Pablo.Moreno replied to SethInMI's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Can I ask why you assume that? Out of ignorance. I have only seen a few HMA lined canopies and they were non-cascaded, but I guess that is because they were all from Precision, and that is what Precision does. I see now that PD does cascade their HMA canopies. Seth Cool. That makes sense. Icarus does csacade too, just relined a JVX with the HMA 300 -
Sabre 2 twitchy with brakes stowed
Pablo.Moreno replied to SethInMI's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
I have flew Sigma 340, Saber2 (1.3/1.5), crossfire2 (1.6), Pilot(2/1 I know), velo(2.1) JVX(2.5). In all fo them wih the brakes stow and turning I needed to stop the turn by rear in he more docile wings and only harness in the high loaded wings, even with the tandem canopys when I have a turn in opening I have to stop by pulling on the rears. when the canopy is high loaded, I would use the harness and if that doesnt stop then go to rears, but wih a lightly loaded canopy it is less aggressive and a touch on rears normally does the trick. You can test if you can stop it by harness or need more, just hold your brakes to where they are set (nomally and then shift back and forward and see how the canopy flys. -
New. Collapsable pilot chute uncocking itself.
Pablo.Moreno replied to ChrisD's topic in Gear and Rigging
What I got into the habit of doing is when I am about to start closing the container I bring the pilot chute from the bridle fast enough to inflate the pilot chute, have realized twice I forgot to cock the pilot chute. -
Velocity is awesome.... What else is?
Pablo.Moreno replied to matt3sa's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
I have flew a Velo and a JVX (currently flying a JVX) The JVX is a fun canopy as well, maybe it doesn't feel as aggressive in the turns like the velocity does, but it is a fun canopy to fly. I get great swoops out of both with just a harness 90, turning them high and still have plenty of power. I would like to try out a JFX and a Xaos, but I havent had the chance. -
Agree with more than 1 HnP, but I used the term "performance enveloping" to mean don't just do the turn you usually do. In addition do the snappiest single front riser turn a few times and the slowest, most divey turn you can from deep brakes a few times. This gives you a min and max altitude in which you can complete your turn. A useful dataset to have if, like me, you don't always hit your initiation point dead nuts on the planned altitude. An example of using these numbers for me is that my lowest 270 altitude overlaps my highest 90 altitude so if I am too low for my left hand 270 I'll switch to a right hand 90 to hopefully still hit the gates. Awesome, I am actually excited right now, this is an awesome example of how this forum can be of use. I just learn another way of increasing my "play book", always when I was high I would make the turn slower, but if I was low I would decrease the turn, never really cross my mind on having a different dive in case I am too low or too high relative to my regular IP. I had the Y and X offset for different winds. I personally haven't hit that stage of training yet, on my current wing. Right now I just transition to a crossbraced canopy and I am back to do everything from scratch (accuracy, crosswinds, downwinds pattern flying, etc) So right now as hard as it is I am stopping myself from doing any kind of front riser dive until I am 100% proficient on this wing.

Something to add, don't do just one HnP. Do at least 10 times 270 the way you always do at a higher altitude +2000ft, get the altitude lost and created your average altitude lost. Also if you realized your front risers get pretty heavy after two dives in the HnP, then limit it to maybe two dives per HnP When you get tire the altitude lost is not going to be accurate and is only going to bring your average starting altitude higher than what it would normally be. That way you will get the right altitude for your own technique.

ALl depends on how much jumping are you planing on doing over the next few years. Planing on doing 200+ jumps. Then I would highly recommend a used system. Once you put about 200+ jumps on a canopy loaded less than 1/1 you might want something smaller 1.2/1 and at that range of 230-190 Sqf and the container you might buy new might not be able to hold anything smaller, with that also consider crappy landings, wet landings (all depends on where you jump), etc. If you have a cheap used rig that you can beat up then why not. After you reach the point on knowing what you want, then go ahead and buy something new that will last you and you will be able to put a few 1000 jumps in it.

Pilot Chute Hesitation
Pablo.Moreno replied to vertigofreefly's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Or just delay always 5 sec. I got the same thing on my containers, pilot chutes love wind. If you are at a Cessna DZ tell the pilot to keep up the power that will also give you some momentum forward and would generate enough speed to make your 3 sec delays open just fine -
Out of my personal experience Me and my team mate have Ourogan sky-tunnel suit and is great. So far 400 jumps 6.5 hrs in the tunnel and the suit besides the butt, no rips or holes just looks a bit worn out (a lot of sliding swoops) looks brand new and in excellent conditions. It is a bit pricy but you get your moneys worth.

I am 6.2ft and 210 lbs. For hand cam having long arms it definitely helps. The only problem I encounter is having big thighs 27", If I am behind the pilot I don't give my fellow TI to much room in the C206. We also have a wide body 182 so normally there I don't have any problems. The only other thing is when I have tall tandem passengers is a bit tight getting out, but no issues so far. I normally get the tall people.

+1 Also, if you cant afford the tunnel doing a lot of solo jumps is a must. Unless you can afford the coaching in which, if you can, then you can probably afford the tunnel.
-
My own p[personal experience. Have 6:30 hrs of tunnel after 1;45 hrs I was clear to fly with people sit flying. (took me about 45 min to and hour to fly on my back). After 2:15 hrs I was able to do side dock. After 3 hrs I was able to be base do simple single docks and fly to wherever I need in the tunnel. Start doing some HD when I had 2:30 hrs and now after 6;30, I can fly shelf and daffy for about 1 minute before I i have to go on my back (my body position gets all weird the longer I stay HD "stop making noise" is what I hear from the coaches). Also, I can lift up from the net HD, but I haven't work on transitions yet. Now from oyur group in the tunnel some people got a head fast and others after 5 hrs still where struggling with Sit flying. THe best advice I got was once you start to relax and forget about progression, you start to progress.

Awesome.

Yeah I do, but on my current skill level and wing I don't think I am at the stage to swoop like the guys on the vids. Maybe with a good downwind of 15mph I use my rears for a long time before I need to transition to toggles.
-
When I took a canopy course, I still remember the phrase for rears was : "Less is more". If you can accomplish a good distance swoop with barely using any rears, that only means that you build enough speed that you don't need any input on your wing to keep it level. I have had many swoops where I have place my hands on the rears but never really need them. I fly a crossfire II 1.8 WL. Just make sure to know the feeling of the rears on your current wing, so you don't get to stall the canopy in a HP landing and hurt yourself. Do high HnP and test rear stall point after a big rotation and also on normal flight and make that feeling one of your instinct so you know when it is too much.

In Canada if you suffer from epilepsy, you have to be 2 years seizure free and must jump with an AAD
-
Well I am guessing this only relates to strict canopy control, I think the best advice I have heard is... Even if you aren't thinking on being a HP canopy pilot, you should still learn these skills. Because, even if it is unintentional, a low turn can happen on any jump, so you are better off at least practicing these skills before hand rather than finding yourself in need of those skills when you don't have them. Now that's pretty general and it doesn't apply to learn how to do a 450+ front riser dive, or knowing when to transition form rears to toggles, but knowing how your wing react to different turns, and knowing how to have a fast recovery from this turns, is essential so you feel more comfortable whatever canopy you fly. Make sure to talk with an experience canopy pilot or take a canopy course. Do the drills up high and have fun, IMO is always good to have working plan, even on a high altitude HnP, rather than just dump high, stay under canopy for 5 minutes and land.
-
With 70 jumps both of you, on a canopy like the Pilot. I would say it probably is body position. I have flew one on wingsuit, HnP (non terminal) Freefly and I have even dump while tracking. Never had an issue, snivel a little bit more on a non terminal opening and wingsuit. Always had on heading nice openings (the wingloading was a lot higher thou).

I have about 90 tandems, all on Sigma. I had a few line twist (since I am in DZ.com I will say I had line twist in two jumps). In one of the jumps was only one revolution so it came out on its own. On another one, I had about four revolutions. At the beginning I tried to untwisted myself, and I wasn't going anywhere, like many of you mention I went 90 degree one way and then go back again to the same spot I was before, so I made the student to look up, and I said, "well we have some nice line twist, not a big deal we will need to kick at the same time to clear them". He start kicking the wrong direction and then I said "kick the other way" with in 10 seconds we where out of the line twist and still above 4000ft. Good job making it to the ground safely. I apologize in advance for my bad grammar.
